[Vanilla] Tooltip for the top infobar via controller?

Does anybody know, how to bring up the tooltip for the infobar at the top of the screen using only controller commands? I pressed everything in various order and combinations without success.

I’m particularly interested in getting the gold tooltip at the top, as it shows the breakdown of your income and expenses, including the essential information when your gpt deals end. Without that I feel stranded. I can use my finger to bring it up on the touchscreen in the handheld mode, but when docked, I’m lost. I can’t operate without that, as the reports tabs (and the deal screens) are next to useless (and depression inducing). I’m reduced to making notes with my pencil on a sheet of paper, what I’m trading with whom and on what turn that deal ends and what luxuries I actually have. Otherwise, browsing the reports and using the deal screen tabs feels like job of an accountant, sifting through small print at the bottom of the contract.

You tried pressing minus multiple times? Cause that toggles tooltips in some subscreens?

Yes, pressing it turns on/off or cycles the tooltips for what is currently selected. So on the main screen it shows the terrain tooltip for the selected tile or turns it off. But how to jump on that top infobar?

It better would, then. Because on top of those impossible and obscure report tabs, extremely user-unfriendly deal screen with missing information, and with trade routes bar displaying incorrect information, that's the final straw and deal-breaker.

Goodness me, I've found where else you can find the gpt deal end info: in the Yields tab, after scrolling aaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way down past all of your cities and other stuff to the very bottom of that interminable table! Wow, just wow. Another example of essential info hidden in the small print at its finest. You can collapse parts of the table too, so the diplo deals become mostly visible without scrolling, but, of course, when you exit and come back, it does not stay collapsed and is expanded again.

I do not know who this "user" interface was made for, but I know for sure, it wasn't for us: players/users. On PC at least you can use some very helpful UI mods made for free by some kind people, but on consoles you're stuck with this pathetic excuse for a UI. And the game has been on the market for three years already...

Oddly I don't mind it as much as I thought it would. On the PC I tend to speed through things, on switch I have to slow down and I feel like that alone makes me play better...

Sorry for replying to this older thread, but as of the June 2020 update, I think this situation has gotten worse. Before the update, I was unable to get the tooltip for the top ribbon to appear when using the controller (I usually play docked). However, although inconvenient, I can temporarily undock and touch the top ribbon with my finger to get the tooltip to show up. As of the June update, even using the touchscreen will not trigger the tooltip. Case in point: after the May 2020 update, I started having negative accumulation of diplomatic favor per turn. I couldn’t figure out why until I activated the tooltip for the diplomatic favor box in the top ribbon with the touchscreen. The info in that tooltip told me that the negative accumulation was due to occupying a foreign capital (I believe this was something new added in the May update). Now with the June update, I couldn’t get that tooltip to appear at all. Ideally, either the tooltip for the top ribbon should be accessible by controller AND touchscreen, or all that useful info should be available elsewhere (as far as I know, there is no other way to get the info for diplomatic favor accumulation besides that tooltip). The Xbox and PS4 versions are already out, but I don’t know if they have the same issue.

Another example why Aspyr and 2k are trash. Don't expect a fix till Ethiopia update. They work slow as a snail. Heck actual snails would work faster.
