Top 10 Albums OfThe Year 2007

...................what?

i'm saying that while i'd probably get along with many of the writers at pitchfork, i still think they're pretentious asses who think they're intellectual.

and that i don't use them as a "next big thing" mine, like many cut out hipsters that popped up when garden state came out.

I'll take this with a grain of salt, but in all seriousness, how does Mirrored make anyones top ten list. You gotta justify this.

i will admit, though i hate jazz fans for this, i do listen to albums differently depending on who's on them. and i've kept up with every feeder band for battles and enjoy all of them.

but idk, i just enjoyed mirrored.

Pitchfork lost whatever shred of credibility it had left when it started re-critiquing all the records that scenesters love as 10's.

exactly. i've noticed everything either gets a brutal score, a 6ish, or a 10.

and a lot of flowery language.

which reminds me, did you read the years best list that david cross did one year?

Sky Blue Sky by Wilco could maybe be somewhere in the top 10, although I'm not sure. Theres a lot of albums that I thought were 2007, but were 2006. I'm going to have to think about it.

Britney Spears - Black Out.

Did this record actually not suck? Or was it as overhyped as everything else they've produced?

I dunno, I might have. I typically read the end of the year rankings, and check out all those bands the pick, and chortle girlishly at how horrible and contrived their tastes are. I think I actually have seen Cat Power and Sufjan Stevens on those lists before. I don't think I read the lists for 2005, or 2006. I know I missed a year. If it's a amusing, and you have a link, send it my way.

Also, Okkervil River, don't you feel like pulling your eyes out when you listen to this record (the new one). I mean, not because it's bad. But because it has so much potential to actually be a great meaningful record. But for the most part it's just so average. When the band hits its spots, it teeters towards the edge of brilliance, but never comes close to achieving it. The first time I listened to this, I just felt so pissed off. Because this could have been so huge. It's kinda how I feel when I listen to Grandaddy.

Well, I don't know. I guess it could just be me, but I thought it was good, and better than their previous stuff.

Despite some opinions I considered 2007 to be rather good in music. Here's my take on the top-10:

1. Abigor - Fractal Possession
2. CMX - Talvikuningas

3 - 10. (in alphabetical order)
Ajattara - Kalmanto
Akercocke - Antichrist
Anaal Nathrakh - Hell Is Empty and All the Devils Are Here
Candlemass - King of the Grey Islands
Pimentola - Misantropolis
The Project Hate MCMXCIX - In Hora Mortis Nostrae
Shining - V: Halmstad
Therion - Gothic Kabbalah

Somehow I forgot  to mention...

Puscifier - V is For Vagina!

Side project from Maynard James Keenan!

1. Kuha. - Tieteen puolesta, fiktiota vastaan
2. Porcupine Tree - Fear of a Blank Planet
3. Dream Theater - Systematic Chaos
4. Symphony X - Paradise Lost
5. Iced Earth - Framing Armageddon
6. - 10. No idea

Damnit  It looks like your top-10 list may cost me 15 euros. At least the stuff on MySpace is great.

edit: While I haven't listened to her album, I agree that her new single is better than some of her late stuff; Toxic < Gimme More.

I've just got Anonymous from Tomahawk from 2007. This is a wicked album, I can defiently add this to my top ten. :D

I just listened to Porcupine whatever and there lyrics are good but there vocal melodies and music suck to no end, but the lyrics raise them a smidgen above average.

how could i forget:

daedelus - fairweather friends

not as good as denies the day's demise, but great nonetheless.

5 off of the top of my head:

Down - Down III: Over the Under
Nile - Ithyphallic
Deathklok - The Dethalbum
Dimmu Borgir - In Sorte Diaboli
Megadeth - United Abominations

Deathklok - The Dethalbum
Good call!

Some of mine from this year:

Alela Diane - The Pirate's Gospel: A really exciting debut album - awesome voice with a fantastic sparse old-timey sound that you don't hear enough these days. Has been in almost non-stop rotation in my house.
Beirut - The Flying Club Cup: More frenchy than Gulag Orkestar, proved that he's at least a two-trick pony
Tinariwen - Aman Iman:Water is Life : Not only is the sound quality better, they've gone more bluesy and the result is awesome. The guitarist (who is fricking incredible) sounds like he's channeling John Lee Hooker on a peyote trip with Hendrix, it's great.
Devendra Banhart - Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Canyon
Spoon - Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga: These guys do good work. Yeah.
Old Crow Medicine Show - Big Iron World: I have a feeling this may have been a 2006 release, but I'm too lazy to check. Anyway, not their best stuff but still totally awesome.
Sui Zhen - Self-titled EP: Local Sydney girl, I just really love her voice and her songs are good too. Also I have a massive crush on her.

On the other hand, The National - Boxer was massively overhyped and snoozealicious
It's great that Radiohead actually picked up instruments and played songs and stuff but the new one did nothing for me
And Sigur Ros took another heartbreaking descent into mediocrity

Re-Up - Eminem
Curtis - 50 Cent
Whatever Kanye West's album was caled?
Good Girl Gone Bad - Rihanna
And those are all the ones I can think of right now...
