Top 10 Albums OfThe Year 2007

There have been very few good whole albums this year... Anyway, in no particular order:

Helloween - Gambling with the Devil
Tiesto - Elements of Life
Antaeus - Zero 4 (sorta 2007)

Special negative mention to Nightwish - Dark Passion Play which was average when it should've been good. And it's not because of the new chick - she sings good (not as good as Tarja tho) it's just that the songs were kinda dull.

There may be an equal amount of crap, however, there is nothing outstanding. Take your list here. None of those records would even be taken into consideration between 1991-1997. None of them.

There may be no outstanding albums there, which i disagree with anyways but that doesnt make the albums any less good. From the UK perspective of it, the later part of the 90's the market was flooded with brit pop that or takethat/westlife/boyzone- cheesey pop. Of course some of them would have been taken into consideration- these days the maufactured bands with amnufactured songs are at the top of the charts but just because something doesn't get to number 1 for so many weeks doesn't make it any less good.

Klaxons- Myths of the near future was good as well

Mmm, almost forgot. Digitalism's Idealism was pretty good as well.

Make sure you put Neon Bible and Zietgiest on your list...

Hands across the Board Radiohead's In Rainbows was my favorite release this year. It will probably be one of my favorite albums of all time. Even the way they released it, by letting you pick your own price was unique.

I liked 2006 much better. I haven't bought any albums this year, but in 06 I got 3.

1. Red Hot Chili Peppers - Stadium Arcadium. Amazing all around, one of my favorite albums of all time.
2. The Killers - Sam's Town. Very good, I will probably keep listening to it for a long time.
3. Linkin Park - Minutes To Midnight. Good, but not great. It has some great songs on it, but most of them were just average.

I havent actually bought any large amount of albums this year, but my favorites would have to be:

1. HIM - Venus Doom
2. VNV Nation - Judgement
3. Emigrate - Emigrate

I hope that the last one doesnt spell the end of rammstein though

Oh, and if concert DVD's count

Oomph! - Rohstoff

They've listened to Ayreon, Dream Theater, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Opeth, Rush, Symphony X and Yes, and they find Porcupine Tree to be the best progressive rock band.

Sigh, and thus proof the musical standards continue their decline.

(Note - that Genesis reference had best not be referring to anything after Duke ...)

If you haven't heard it, Steve Hackett did an album a few years ago called Genesis Revisted that redoes some classic Genesis - Watcher of the Skies in particular came out much, much better.

Yeah, Stadium Arcadium might just the pinnacle of all Red Hot Chili Pepper achievements. And the Killers was just a spectacular record in all regards. In no way was it generic run down gutter trash that makes the top ten list at Wal*Mart and Hot Topic alike.

1. Trees outside the academy: Thurston More
2. The Mix-up: The beastie boys
3. Era Vulgaris: Queens of the stone age

Oh yeah, They get originality points for making as rappers an only i nstrumental album. and the album is great too (as also the artwork on the cover) too bad it's so thin, I keep losing track of the record

hehehehe, so true!

neon bible was a let down and the smashing pumpkins have always sucked.

anymore assumptions you have?

How about Deerhoof? I notice that dreadful White Stripes record, Animal Collective, Fall Out Boy, Fiest, and that horribly boring Blond Redhead record are all missing from the stereotypical lists of crap that's topped most peoples "best of 2007" list.

And anyhow, how could Neon Bible possibly be a let down? As if Arcade Fire could reach a whole different level of pure mediocrity.

That were prety good live, i saw Arcade fire twice this year and really liked it!

Ive been hearing a lot about arcade fire....so I looked them up.....they sound exactly like all the crappy little bands on MTV am I missing something??

As for albums....well....I havnt bought any from this year but I did buy a lot, I mostly download anyway. Might get that new alecia keys one, I dont care who you are that stuff is catchy.
