Top 10 Albums OfThe Year 2007

How about Deerhoof? I notice that dreadful White Stripes record, Animal Collective, Fall Out Boy, Fiest, and that horribly boring Blond Redhead record are all missing from the stereotypical lists of crap that's topped most peoples "best of 2007" list.

And anyhow, how could Neon Bible possibly be a let down? As if Arcade Fire could reach a whole different level of pure mediocrity.

blah blah blah

wake me up when you're discussing susumu yokota, glass candy, okkervil river, david vandervelde, or someone good.

From what I was told about them, I would've expected them to sound like Vangelis or Tangerine Dream.

they don't sound anything like them or anything on mtv to me.

doesnt mean i'm a fan. they're not "bad" but nowhere near good. just....boring.

now i'll attempt it.

in no particular order:

old time relijun - catharsis in crisis
kutiman - kutiman
battles - mirrored
bc camplight - blink of a nihilist
liars - liars
ghost - in stormy nights
busdriver- roadkillovercoat
albert hammond jr. - yours to keep
spiderman of the rings - dan deacon
seawolf - get to the river before it runs too low EP
justice - †
pharoahe monch - desire
okkervil river - the stage names
sunset rubdown - random spirit lover
jay z - american gangster
lupe fiasco - the cool
rush - snakes and arrows (lulz, just joking. the year wasnt bad enough for that steaming pile of crap to make it onto my list)

sure there's more that i can't think of right now. but all those are good.

Argh. That album sounded more like a mixtape than a proper LP. I was quite disappointed, save for a few songs.

The two best hip-hop albums of the year I believe to be Common's Finding Forever and Scarface's Made

IMO, it was one of the best by Wu-Tang since 36 Chambers. The problem I had with it was no real "angry" songs like Protect Ya' Neck, etc. Rumor has it that there's already a new album coming out in the coming months, if not weeks.

"No my music taste is better than yours"
"yours sucks, my taste is so awesome it's like waking up with strawberries in your mouth"
"well mine's far better than that, i don't think i could even list my favourite ever albums as you have to have 4 ears to be able to hear the true resonance on it'

:mischief:

Somebody spends an awful lot of their time at Pitchfork!!!!!!

Right. Just because you aren't paying attention doesn't mean music sucks. - punkbass2000

No, it doesn't suck because I'm not paying attention. Ever since college I've downloaded and deleted...probably hundreds of bands that people tell me are just so uber awesome from across a broad spectrum of music. Probably easily over 150 gigs of music gets one listen, then gets canned. Some of it, like Porcupine Tree, I keep around and listen to every six months or so just to reconvince myself that it blows. Almost all of it sucks. Damn near all of it. I'm not going to repeat myself as to why music is so God awful today. There is absolutely nothing astounding being produced today. Not in a way shape or form. 98% of the records that people have listed in this thread are garbage if released in 1995 and never get face time. Even bands that used to make great music...have just become worn down and dry over the last handful of years. Music is dull now.

Mr. Dictator wins so far. But even that list is just chocked full of utterly contrived, boring, dull, listless, uninspired garbage. Someone send Jeff Magnum an invitation to come back to reality...please.

Its Jeff Mangum, ace.

Get off your high horse.

You get a cookie for pointing out my critical typo. I'm not riding on a horse, I'm simply being truthful.

Look, we get it. You're old and you think today's music sucks, like every generation before you and probably every generation to come. This is a thread about the best albums of the year, not why some geezer thinks things were better back when he was young.

I'm not going to repeat myself as to why music is so God awful today.

Have you actually provided any meaningful criticisms?

I am hardly old. What, do you think I'm gonna come out and be all "OHHHHH GENISIS SAVED MY LIFE! THE POLICE RULE MAN!!!!"

No.

I provided meaningful earlier criticism. Take it or leave it. If you'd like to introduce me into some of your new hipster music, I'll always check it out.

I pretty much perpetually look for music, download random bands and crap. So if you'd like, inform this old guy of some music that should be blowing my mind. And I'll listen to it, and offer up some crass criticism of it. Either that, or I've already heard it, and it's probably garbage listened to by hipsters.

Because Porcupine Tree, Battles, and Okkervil River just doesn't feed the cat.

You can always pop in the Mozart...

There have been some stuff in the last ten years that ok IMO but I havnt heard anything amazing, well, I take that back, I think avenged sevenfold is awesome, althoguh theyre latest album wasnt so grand. But I just havnt heard anything really awesome and great for the last ten years, mostly trash, and a lot of "OK" stuff.

The Dethalbum was in 2007, right?

pitchfork, while full of prissy prose and pseudo-intellectual bullspitting, has a few alignments in my taste.

i don't look for what they like to see what to listen to though. i could care less about what they jock half the time.

I'll take this with a grain of salt, but in all seriousness, how does Mirrored make anyones top ten list. You gotta justify this.
