For my SSC these are of cours very important Colossus, Copernicus'Observatory and Newton's College.

My lsit is influenced by my strategy, and the fact I mostly play a world(Earth) map.
1. Colussus- Trade increase for long time.mmm.
2. Pyramids - Free grain!
3. Leo's Workshop- Upgrades

Having Shakespeare's Theatre in the city with the Colossus means you can grow that city huge (WLK Days) and never get discontent, that way all the trade you have going with all your other cities that have linked to it via caravans is increased dramatically.

To those of you who play world map a LOT I have few suggetions about good places to build wonder cities i.e.places with good shield production.
1.The area just above the "Alps" in Europe.
2.The area where the Babylonians start.
3.The Grassland square just between hills just above the River "indus".
4.The squares jst below the Caspian sea are filled with mountains. Just build a city bordering the Caspian Sea and "Harvest" the Shields.
I know there are mpre but I'll let ou figure out the Rest

Well, allhailIndia, I don't think it matters too much what the shield production of a wonder-building city is; just use caravans from neighboring cities and you can build one anywhere you like very quickly.

That is very much depending on the game I play, 'gainst whom I play and what my machiavellian plans involves... But generally, I suppose something along these lines:

1. Mike's Chapel
2. Adam's company
3. Great Library
4. Sun Tzu's
5. Hoover Dam
6. Pyramids
7. Leo's workshop
8. JS Bach's
9. Magellans
10. United Nations

leonardos
pyramids
adma simith
United nations
shakespeare
hoover
seti
michealgelo
lighthouse
darwin

i like to put the cor observitory and isaacs in same city for super science.... and then get king richards with collosus.

pyramids suck.... the way i build i end up gettin the graneries while waiting to spew forth more settlers......

Nukes are fun, just use them to make opponent have some enviromental problems....

UN dont affect me much cuz i war with fundamentalism... so bahhumbug to anything trying to make me stop the nukes...

Leo's workshop is cool, it turns my many wariors into musketeers real quick.

Seti aint worth it, just get an ally to show map, then backstab and take them out, works well vrs AI. i dont do against humans.

No matter which wonder i make, i always have 7-8 food caravans to make it in a turn... so it dont matter much. i get them all.

Which wonders are most important depends on the game parameters, notably, the difficulty level. The Pyramids are one of the biggest bargains in the game. For the cost of a mere 3 and a third granaries, you get cost-free, indestructible granaries in all your cities. I always go for Monarchy and the Pyramids at deity level.
At 2x production King level (multiplayer), I go for early Republic and Michelangelo's Chapel is my most important wonder. The Chapel is about as valuable as the Pyramids, weighing in at the cost of 3 and a third cathedrals, but with Republic and 2x production I don't need the Pyramids to grow.
Bach's Cathedral isn't as good as the Chapel, but still a bargain.
The Hoover Dam wonder is wonderfully cheap, costing a mere 2 and a half Hydro Plants. None of these wonders expires.
Among the wonders that do expire, Leonardo's Workshop is kind of expensive at a time when you'd probably rather be using those Caravans for trade routes, but don't let anyone else get this wonder if you want to win the game. The mere upgrading of your dozen or twenty Settlers to Engineers is worth the cost of this wonder, not to mention those Warriors becoming Riflemen.
These are the wonders I consider indispensable.
The biggest gyps are the Colossus, Darwin's Voyage, Oracle, Eiffel Tower, Shakespeare's Theater, King Richard's Crusade, and Statue of Liberty. Again, it depends on the kind of game you're playing. BTW, I usually build Darwin's even though it's not cost effective, just because I can.

1. Mikeys Chapel
2. Leo's Shop
3. Adam's Place
4. Pyramids
5. SETI

Im too lazy to write 10

My playing style has changed dramatically thanks to some advice here. Like how to manage resources within a city window...

I dont bother with the pyramids much, i try and conquer them later.

Currently i play 7 opponents, so Great Library is a must as is Leos Workshop.

Leos Workshop is not often a great help, but its too dangerous to let the opponents get.

so in no particular order,

1) Hanging Gardens
2) Observatory
3) Issacs College
4) SETI
5) Great Wall - (sometimes, depending on my style of campaign)
6) Hoover Dam

and, well im still so new to all this, im not EVEN sure myself.

1. Hoover Dam
2. Mikes Chapel
3. Leos
4. Womens Suffrage
5. SETI
6. UN
7. Great Library (to stop anyone else from having it)
8. Colossus
9. Isaac Newtons
10. Manhattan Project

How many times is this topic going to come up. I count 7 in the last three years.
There is only 2 game altering wonders over the long haul.
1) Leos...I can upgrade units at a monsterous rate.. worth in total resources somewhere around 10,000 not to mention all the capabilities like putting horses on a ship and several turns later when they reach thier location thier calvery. Frigates to destroyers to cruisers..more destroctive capabilities. wariors to rifleman..especially powerfull in team games.
2) magelleons...allows you to deliver caravans to the enemy for maximum payout, ship chain units across oceans with few galleons or transports. allows your ships to always see enemy ships first and attack in wolf packs or run away. controll of the sea is essential in any game.
3) lighthouse...great in a non-team game allows you to steal tech and go hutting and is a great phscyological weapon. Extremely valueable in a duel.
4) Mikes...chapel in every city..only fundamentalism is a counter to it
all other wonders are much less important
And finally, sun tzus is the absoloutly most overrated wonder, build barracks instead in the citys that need them. avoid going for feudalism as much as possibille since it is not necessary to win.

Another misconception by Mr. All Knowing.

If you have Sun's, you produce veterans.
If you produce veterans, you don't need barracks.
If you don't need to build barracks, you don't have maintenace costs.
Are veteran units worthwhile? Certainly.
And Pikemen are in fact good to have.
As are Knights, then Dragoons.
If you're willing to study Horseback Riding in order to cover ground quickly with military unit, why would you stop there, rather than going on to produce one more worthwhile?

You probably stick with Triremes too though.

Leonardo's doesn't upgrade destroyers (or anything else) to cruisers. It does upgrade ironclads to destroyers, which isn't real exciting. My favorite upgrade is settlers to engineers, though ancient military units to riflemen is about as much fun.

My top ten well lets say just typical playing

1:Great wall
2:Great library
3:United nataions
4:Leo's-or-oracle (same thing)
5:Eiffel tower
6:Sun Tuz war acadamey
7:Space observatory-or-Issac's collage (same)
8:Hover Dam
9:Manhaten Project
10:lighthouse

1. Michelangelos Chapel
2. JS Bach
3. Leonardo's Workshop
4. Pyramids
5. Hoover Dam
6. Statue of Liberty
7. Copernicus' Observatory
8. Adam Smith's Trading Company
9. Magellans Expedition
10. Sun Tzu

Darned Useful:

1. Women's Sufferage
2. Apollo
3. King Richard's Crusade
4. Isaac Newton's College
5. Shakespeare's Theatre
6. Colossus
7. Cure for cancer

Normally unnecessary (at Diety, gainst AI players):

1. Great Wall
2. Great Library
3. Hanging Gardens
4. Marco Polo
5. Darwin's Voyage
6. United Nations
7. SETI

Normally Worthless:

1. Eiffel Tower (always worthless)
2. Oracle
3. Manhattan Project
4. Lighthouse
