Total Realism FAQ

Don't really know how that could possibly have happened. Never observed anything like that before.

Thanks very much. I still have the save for it, and could email it, if it might help. I love this mod (I was one of the beta-testers for Rome:Total Realism, and I have a special affection for the name).

Yes, of course. It is indeed an interesting case (although currently we are almost at 2.4 with our internal builds).

First, will 2.4 be with BTS, or will it stay with Civ 4 and Warlords?

Second, I decided to run a turn, just to see what happened after saving and exiting the game. When I did the aerial recon on the next turn, the "tank" had turned into a simple old-fashioned armored elephant. It had the same name, and disappeared on the following turn.

I believe that the thing was actually a general, but its icon looked like a Leopard 2, initially.

Fascinating stuff.

So at least this is just a graphical glitch, not a gameplay one. Good to know.

No, we just don't have the resources to convert to BtS. We'll release for Warlords, and that might well be the last TR version.

so there won`t be TR for BTS and version 2.4 will be LAST TR version for civilization 4? or you don`t plan to convert version 2.4 to BTS and make another version for BTS?

and one more question - do you work on TR alone now or other old members are still working on it? Haven`t heard about Mexiko, Houmam and the others for some years.

Thanks for working on it. I am looking forward to 2.4 and I hope that I will be able to finish Earth map under win 7 64 bit finaly ;).

Sadly, I must admit that this is the most likely case. The team has all but fallen apart, and aside from me and Yann, there were no regular contributors for at least a year. And since both of us have gotten much busier lately, we just don't have any resources to make a BtS port. There are two of us, and neither knows Python/SDK. Without such people, no BtS port is even remotely possible.

So, we'll release 2.4 and hope that someone likes it enough to port it to BtS. :)

That would be a sad day indeed. I was really looking forward to it. I didnt think it would be a major step to BtS since zappara did it with RoM, but then it would have already been done. Almost tempted to learn Python.. But that would take a huge investment in time.

Having just played my first game of Total Realism, I feel strongly compelled to express my positive reaction to this extraordinary mod. TR is amazing, and its clear that the developers expended significant time and energy into ensuring balanced, sophisticated, and entertaining gameplay. Good job, guys! And on behalf of a grateful CIV IV community, thanks!

Thank you very much. And BTW, to make this thread look less grim after my last post here, I would like to mention that BtS conversion is well underway, we're alive and kicking!

Look, i don't know if that's a TR bug, but i'm having troubles with healing air units: when they get damaged and i leave them to heal for a turn, they dissapear! And the hint over heal button shows very big number: something like maximum value of signed long integer type... Help if u can, please =)
P.S.
Nice to hear that BtS conversion if planned, how's the progress going?

Well, yes, sorry that I cannot offer you any help on that matter; debugging Warlords version is close to pointless now - almost no bugs (if it is indeed our bug) will be carried over to BtS, and we don't plan any more Warlords releases.

:goodjob: Might be surprising to you, but there's still new folks discovering the TR Mod for Warlords. After the scathing reviews for Civ V, I elected to forgo buying that and instead bought Civ IV (Gold Ed) for cheap, then downloaded your last available TR Mod. What a great game! You guys put so much effort into that - thanks for creating a true 'public good'. I really enjoy being able to play this.
(P.S. I installed this on a Pentium D computer w/ 4GB RAM, but still an XP 32-bit OS, so I initially ran into the annoying MAF crashes. But I found that helpful series of posts explaining how to change the bios w/ the 3GB switch, and since then it's been blissful playing on the biggest possible maps in the highest graphics resolution.)
A cheers to the team.

As long as you're running a 32-bit OS, you will run into MAFs. The measures offered just serve to postpone them until later in game. Also, stay tuned, we will release for BtS quite soon! :)
