TR04 - Losers vs 5CC deity

The adjective "antipodean" is often attributed to the citizens of Australia and New Zealand (just to clarify). Maybe it's a British peculiarity?

Preturn -- Boy are we up in tech! I make the rounds, and nobody has any gpt for us. Oh well.
Caesarea has 2 mps, Nicea has none. I'll shuffle a warrior out of Caesarea.
I stop Const's growth for a turn to finish the harbor in 1, otherwise we'd lose lots of shields. (The next citizen on growth will be placed on the wheat.)

Someone's gonna have to explain to me the reason that northern curragh is parked where it is. It's blocking a 4-turn path to our shores, but there are other 4-turn paths around. I'd like to upgrade that guy to a dromon, but previous players left him there, so I will too.
Anyway the Spanish have 5-turn galleys now, and we can't stop that.

(I) Const harbor --> worker

T1 (730BC) -- Sell poly to Hittites for 47g & 4gpt
Use that cash to build embassy with the 'Quois. Salamanca: size 3, has temple, 3 spear garrison, building spear @ 5spt. Has ivory.
(I) Const worker --> dromon, Varna lib --> harbor

T2 (710BC) -- zzz
(I) Hittites demand lit. Shove off. He declares. So much for that gpt deal. Here we go!

T3 (690BC) -- War happiness lets me drop lux to 10%.
(I) zzz

T4 (670BC) -- Adrian grows, lux to 20%.
(I) Const dromon --> worker, Caesarea lib --> harbor

T5 (650BC) Merge worker into Caesarea
(I) Const worker --> dromon

T6 (630BC) zzz
(I) Varna harbor --> dromon

T7 (610BC) zzz
(I) zzz

T8 (590BC) zzz
(I) Const dromon --> worker

T9 (570BC) Worker added to Caesarea
(I) Hiawatha demands const. That's a bit more serious, they are right next door, and I've seen many galleys of theirs. Const is expensive, but it isn't monopoly. Hmm...I tell him to shove off. He declares.
Const worker --> dromon, Caesaria harbor --> dromon, Nicea temple --> lib
We lose a dromon to a 'Quois galley. :( I had him heading back to the mainland to meet up with our other dromons to make a bombard-party.

T10 (550BC) More war happiness means lux to 10%.

Notes: GL in 4 turns, and we still have our lit monopoly. :)
We're at war with 2 civs. Sorry about the lost dromon, we're down to 2 now...
I had const running as a perfect 4-turn worker/dromon factory, but then the iron mine finished and we have more spt. It's up to debate whether to keep that factory running or to let Const grow. I have it mm'd to grow right now.
I think I did ok with the workers. There's one roading a forest by Adrian, sorry about that -- Adrian was using that tile up until a turn or two ago. There's another worker moving to Varna to help out there.
All my builds are up for question. Caesarea maybe wants another warrior to make happy.

All critique/criticism of my turns is welcome. :)

Who knows whom? If the AI don't know each other they can't trade. If we get enough boats afloat, we can stop meet and greets.

Yup, we need more dromons. I spent my turns building dromon factories -- we now have 3. Const & Caesarea are at 10spt, and Varna is at 6spt. One merged worker into Varna will do much good. So I only built two dromons during my turns, but I think now we're set to pump them out.

We only have embassies with Spain & Iroquois right now, so here's what we know...
Spain knows Iroquois and Hittites

Also, after investigating the map, this must be true too...
Arabia knows Egypt knows India knows Arabia

So those are the two groupings so far. That's all I can say...

Did you sell techs to all the AI to get all their gold? There was about 200g to be had. Don't worry about the Iros or the Hittites - they can't get to us right now! Only Spain can attack us. So send in those Dromon raiders.

My trigger on trading was gpt; I kept checking every turn, but nobody ever had any gpt to add. Egypt only recently broke 100g -- before that, rarely did anyone break 60g, and I didn't want to give up techs too cheaply. Sorry if I did wrong there.

The iroquois had a bunch of galleys about their island, so I was going to let our our dromons join forces before sending them over there.

One of the Curraghs is blocking the only safe passage from the Iro island to us, so it should stay there. 3-4 Dromons should be safe for patrolling. If we want to avoid WW (once we hit Republic), keep them in "International Waters".

Good job Mach setting up those Dromon factories. One question though, How many markets do we have? I think that we need those just as much as libraries so that when we do revolt to Republic we won't be too much of a burden on the economy. the good news is that we only have to build 5.

Roster:
eldar
Mach - building dromon factories
dman - Are you available or want a skip this go round? Will wait 24 hours.
Minute Man - on deck Maybe up depending on dman
Bede - on psuedo-deck
Tubby Rower
A-K

We have 1 in Connie. None elsewhere.

Also, unit costs. We have the max for 5 cities in Despotism already. In Republic, we'll have a max of 15 until we get Hospitals, and only 20 after that.

I would rate Aqueducts higher than Markets right now - we need to be able to get our non-freshwater cities to size 7 and above.

Comments:

If we can do it we need to revolt ASAP. The economy will take care of itself once we sink an Iroquois boat.

Make an alliance with Spain against those boyos. Don't want Spanish galleys patrolling our shores.

Getting gpt for tech at this stage is probably a non-starter. Just take the gold and run. Since deficit spending is an option for us and not the AI if we have their money they have to turn down the science spigot unless they are just rolling in it and it doesn't sound like it.

We don't have any gov techs. Republic hasn't been discovered yet. Monarchy is owned by the otherwise-backwards Arabians. Also we get GL in 4, should we wait that long to revolt?

Sorry about not making the trades for gold, then.

We can't revolt yet - my great idea of letting the AI research Republic for us and trading for it has so far yet to bear fruit. Monarchy's available.... Just annoyed we probably could've researched Republic ourselves by now, or be close!

I'm still not convinced we'll get the GLib. There are plenty of ToA builds out there, all it would take would be for one AI to get Lit, and a ToA cascade, for us to lose it.

There's Sun Tsu's. I realize that it's not that good of a wonder in a 5CC but we could use it to get Leo's in 16 turns.

I forgot about sistines. I think that it would be more useful than any other wonder currently or in the near future. lack of luxuries might be the death of us otherwise.

The oracle was built already I assume.

Let me ask this. Do we want to start a pre-build for sistine in Connie? or wait for Adrian to finish the GL? I think that a pre-build might be in order, but I'd like others opinions.

I was thinking pre-build for Sistine, and I was thinking in Connie (Sun Tzu is ideal) as it already has its Library, Temple, Market and needs no CH.

Starting a prebuild is a good idea I think, but I'm not sure we have enough boats afloat to start on wonders yet. I'd like to pump out 3-turn boats and a couple more workers for at least a turnset before we start a prebuild in Connie. Adrian should work on infra once the GL is done.

Connie's isn't really in a good position to build boats for immediate use. I think that Connie start pre-build of Sun Tsu's for Sistine would be prudent. We have our other 3 cities to be pumping out boats with infra squeezed in one at a time.

If we delay the pre0build one extra turnset, we stand a great(er) chance of losing it.

Is it just me or does it feel like eons ago that we were scared of Monarch AI?? :lol:
