TR04 - Losers vs 5CC deity

How in the world did we get to the MA by 1000BC on diety? I realize that the tech pace is a little higher, but I figured that the AI would be there along with us. I guess that the GL is just really for denial now....

Are we going to go along the bottom of the tech ladder or the top part of it? With all of the AI 2 techs from the MA we should be able to get a quick lead on them. Although once they meet each other I suspect that we won't be in the tech lead any longer.

Change the temple builds to libraries?
The reason for the Temple builds is because we were expecting on some happiness problems down the line. Libraries might be a better build than the temples but we're probably gonna need them soon in our other 3 cities.

From now on we might want to stagger builds like that instead of doing them all at once (like I did).

I think this is what being on an archi map does for us - the AI is much less effective at researching when they're not in contact with one another.

Or do we want to skip the GL altogether and aim for one of the MA wonders (Sistine's, maybe)? How much longer do we have before the build finishes?

I vote for the top part (though we're going to have to think long and hard about when we want to get Astronomy, as I believe that's when Dromons become obsolete). But getting to Education relatively quickly and building our cheap universities will help us, and cathedrals might be nice to have as well.

Unless we're having pressing happiness problems, I think the libraries are a better idea.

And, since the roster hasn't been posted for a while:

eldar - up!
Mach - on deck
dman
Minute Man
Bede
Tubby Rower
A-K - just played

Well, we want Libs to get our territory expanded! Luxes will be an issue for a while, too - no trade - so happy buildings are probably a requirement at some point. (Just not Colosseums, please!) If we're having Cathedrals, might as well try for Sistine instead of the GLib.

We should be able to trade with Izzy if she has any harbors. I guess that we would need a harbor too. We should have two furs within grabs so we would need to road that other one soon. I think that Sistine's would be great to get. (Double's cathedrals correct?)

In an XCC game on an island you want all the culture and happy gas buildings you can afford.

1) Expands borders to help minimize poaching
2) With a single local luxury contentment becomes a real problem once you get to pop6 and markets don't help.
3) Libraries and harbors are cheap for us and harbors mean more commerce per food consumed so the population is happier (the multitude that loafs and fishes you know).
4) The technlogy lead will become impossible to maintain once the High Middle Ages are reached. Knowledge gets really expensive and commerce will be limited by the 5CC variant. So be prepared, and if we can finish the Great Library we will be able to stockpile adult coin while the benefit lasts.

Got it, let's see what happens.
I've had an idea, though. We have Feudalism as our free tech - the AIs will bend over backwards and sell their souls for it.
Let's have them research Republic for us.
I'll set up as many AIs as I can with Philo and CoL.

We don't have a scientific civ in the lot of them. I would have said to gift the SCI civs up to the MA so that we could potentially trade Fued with them but there are none!! That sucks a little. Not all that much.

@ eldar, are you planning on gifting Phil & CoL? hint, There is a good hunk of gold out there to be gotten. But you were probably already thinking of that.

What, all that lovely AI gold that's now sitting in our coffers? ;)

Done and dusted.

The big news is the Spain vs. Hittite war, with the Hittites losing at the moment.

On the domestic front, all is quiet and in order.

Turn Log (dull-ish):
0 1000 Quick check round to see what's up. All very nice and friendly, let the Temples finish, then start on Libraries. Connie can strip off a Worker next to boost somewhere else. See we have Feudalism as our freebie - nice. I'd like the AIs to research Republic for us, so I'll set that up right now. Sell CoL to Gandhi for 63g. To Spain for 61g. Hittites for 22g. Philo to Iroquois for 17g. 12g from Pachman for CoL. Egypt are level with us. Arabia... fuggeddabadit. Right, with all the world's treasuries in our pocket, let's go!

IT: Spain declare on the Hittites. Lit->Eng. Connie Market->Worker. We get some Palace! A bunch of Wonders are being built around the world.

1 975 Switch Adrian to Byzantine Bookstore. Go to 80% Sci for Engineering - gets us it in 47 turns at -5gpt. Decide to go for a Warrior in Connie first, for some MP.

IT: Connie Warrior->Worker. Varna Temple->Warrior. Cuzco completes MoM.

2 950 IT: Connie Worker->Lib. Caeserea Temple->Warrior.

3 925 IT: Nicaea Dromon->Temple.

4 900 IT: Varna Warrior->Lib. Arabia finally got Alphabet.

5 875 Looking round at the Spain/Hittite arena, a Hittite city has been razed.

IT: Caeser Warrior->Lib.

6 850 Finish a mine at Adrian, merge a Worker. Lux up a notch to allow it to work, GLib in 19 now. IT: Connie Lib->Worker.

7 825 IT: Connie Worker->Harbor.

10 750 Next player: empty the AI coffers again for whatever techs seem appropriate. Use the cash for a few embassies? Hopefully the current Wonders being built will complete before anyone gets Literature. Only Spain can invade us until Astronomy, and they're kinda busy with Mursilis right now. Personally I think the GLib is nailed on :)

We all like piccies, so here's one of Adrianople:

Neil. :cool:

took care of that already :)
Wasn't sure so I listed it as a prerequisite even if it was already there.

Good job eldar.

EDIT:::looking at the corruption Adrian, do we need to get a courthouse in there next?

Roster:
eldar - just played
Mach - up
dman - on deck working up a storm (let us know when work invades and you need a skip)
Minute Man
Bede
Tubby Rower
A-K

We're counting every penny so CHs all round 'cept Connie are probably going to be needed. If the 1gpt upkeep of the CH nets us 2 extra gold reclaimed - it's worth it.

Ok got it. Probably can't play till tomorrow night, though I'll study the save tonight. Didn't expect to be up today, I guess 3 turnlogs posted in 24hrs will do that. :)

Eldar I see you hit 1000 posts. :D

One question: why are we researching eng at max? Since we're gonna let the big ol' book depository keep us up in tech for awhile, and we have it in the bag, maybe we should start hoarding gold right now...

Re: research. If, for some reason, we don't get the GLib, I'd rather have as many beakers as possible contributed towards the next tech as possible.

These games are getting quicker and quicker. I guess worst case would be where the game is following the sun.

For example: eldar plays (UK); Bede plays (east coast); I play (east coast); A-K plays (east coast); dman plays (east coast); then you (MAch) plays (Chicago); then MM (New Mexico). Then eldar could be up everytime he gets up in the morning :lol:

We need an antipodean player, and maybe one in South Asia. Where's Ainwood....

I had to look that one up.
