Trading resources with the AI

Hello everyone,

I am new to Civ IV and am having some trouble with trading resources with AI countries. I am trying to figure out if it is something that I am doing wrong.

When talking with another leader all of my available trading abilities are shown, in particular, all of the resources that I have available regardless of the amount and whether or not it would be prudent to offer them as a trade.

When playing with a human adversary all of their resources are shown as well and we can negotiate trading these.

When dealing with an AI leader none of their resources show up. I can receive requests from them to trade resources, but I cannot ask them. There is just nothing for me to click on. I have all of the tech for trading up to Astronomy, but it does not seem to matter.

If the AI doesn't have resources that you don't have then they won't have anything to trade you. If they don't like you enough they won't trade with you. If they only have 1 instance of a given resource, they won't trade it to you.

Here Vassals are a exception. They cant withold nothing from you. They might however decide to rather go to war (cancel cassal state) than to give you the last ressource.
