Training game emphasizing trading - Emperor

Rik Meleet said:
See the bold text; work for the trainers. You absolutely have a 100% choice in what techs the ToE gives.

Rik's right, if you set the researching tech to the one you want you will get that tech. Someone must have set it fasicm so that it is not changing every trade.

Still think we have a shot at Hoover as long as the prebuild is timed right.

Anyone know whose turn it is?

I'm sorry I should have read up on it first since I've haven't built ToE since my chieftain days. My bad. :( At least it may have appeased part of the team.

I think this is it.

The Dutch are way behind in techs and have no cash.
Spain is an option.

No one can trade with the Greeks except the Russians and the Russians don't have it. We should be able to open up contact with the Greeks soon. The Greeks are in anarchy so there tech pace has slowed.

Eventually the best option may be the Russians. They have a pile of gold but before we do that I think we should try to take Moscow and all it's strat. resources (horses, rubber and oil). Then I would see what she'd offer with gold and the oil city Yaktusk for AT. We could almost control the oil supply if we get those 2 and the oil near Namp'o. We still have a 3 turn MA with Spain and can cancel the MA with the Dutch now vs Russians.

The pre-build may have to be switched to a palace unless you think we should complete the Mil Acad. (IIRC 3 turns) and then start another pre build in Carthage.

Start:I have nothing to do against Greece. Will build city in Russian land.
IBT: Dutch want to renew the deal,he want 8gpt more.Battle in our lone stand Inchon,Galleon with 3 inf sinks 3 Frigates! :wow: Inf fends off Infs and Guirellas.New Theveste Bank->Stock,Leptis Minor Cav->Inf,Cirta Arty->Cav,Malaca Cav->Inf,Micromanage to get 30+ spt.Tingis Market->Bank,Rusuccuru Arty->Cav,al-Kaf Arty->Inf.
Turn 1:1555AD,heroic galleon complete its suicide voyage to In'Chon,no movements for entering port.Found New Rusicade in Russian land.
IBT: Lose a full galleon against Greek frigate.Heroic Galleon died as expected.Utica starts Inf,Theveste starts Stock,Nora 45spt for Inf,Carthage Novo 40spt for Arty.
Turn 2:1560AD,we lose Inchon horse,so we can only build arty and infantry.
IBT: Fend off Greek Infs at Inchon, produce an MGL on defence.
Turn 3:1565AD,Greek willing to talk,he has Steel.Attack on Moscow,lose 3 cav,1 inf and 1 guerilla,capture arty,worker 124g and 2 resistor.
I steal Steel from Greeks.Safe steal cost 2800g,and succeed,he doesn't have Combustion.Cancel MA against Russia with Spain. Also with Dutch.MM hard to get Oea to average 45spt(Dancing from irrigate grass and mined grass). No more work to do.
IBT: Dutch want to swap TM,no.Carthage MilAcademy->Palace as place holder.Still prebuilding for Hoover although AT is still a monopoly of our own.Can be changed to Army.Set up Inf Factories and Arty Factories.
Turn 4:1570AD,no real fight this turn,Greek has 64 inf and no cavs.
IBT: More Greek Inf suicide at Inchon
Turn 5:1575AD,no real events.
IBT: Greeks are suiciding
Turn 6:1580AD,quiet turns
IBT: Moscow flips, kill 3 cav and 1 inf.
Turn 7:1585AD,Retake Moscow and another 111g.
IBT: Dutch signed peace with Greece and Russia.
Turn 8:1590AD,bombarding Greece and Russia
IBT: Spain signed peace with Russia.
Turn 9:1595AD,still defending Greeks. No offence on Russia front, not enough troops.
IBT:None
Turn 10:New Cirta(Fur city E of Moscow) is suffering from flip risks.will be careful.
Notes:Oea is MMed to get 45spt average and no deficit food to be a 2t Inf Factory.
Carthage need to build Army, prebuild is too early as AT is our monopoly, and Sanitation is widely known.
build offensive forces, the fact of no horse crippled my offensive plan.
Empty army rest at Inchon, build Cav army or Inf Army?

Good steal of Steel. It was Greece's monopoly tech, thus worth a lot. Too bad you couldn't use it to obtain Sanitation from Spain.

BTW: I would have cancelled the Spain deal Wines+Silks for Iron+Coal and the RoP a long time ago.
And I would not have traded our only horses yo Netherlands.
And perhaps I would have even made peace with either Russia or Greece, so we can focus on taking out 1 of them.
I would have also bought Sanitation for lump gold or gpt or anything but techs from Spain, (Preferably lump gold; we have 10000+ of it and we can't use it for cashrushing as we are communistic. The only thing to do with it is upgrading of units which ones? or use it to obtain resources and techs) as we have many size 12 cities with a food surplus halted at size 12.

I might have been tempted to save our cash for a steal on Electronics. And I definitely would have kept the Spanish alliance. As long as we share a common enemy and are linked by an alliance our per turn trade opportunities are still viable.

Will check the save and comment further.

Looks like focus needs to be our watchword. Two turns to go on the alliance with Spain against Greece. And we are free to do what we want with Russia.

The last Russian oil source is at Yakutsk on the other island shared with Spain.

It looks like we can hold against whatever the Greeks can throw against us. They do have one critical resource left (rubber) between Taejon and Pusan.

So, here's my thoughts: Build an infantry army at In'chon and march across the Greek island cutting apart their rail-net along the way. The remainng artillery cavalry and infantry at In'chon can stand up to whatever the Greeks can throw at them if the troops exposed on the hill to the east and the mountain to the south retreat to cover the town. Keep two of the galleion fleet as well as covering frigates available to run a Greek Isle shuttle service, the remaining boats need to provide the same sort of service to the Russian front.

The next step is reinforce the Russian front and finish removing them from their home island, leaving them them with Yakutsk. Oil without rubber is useless for most anything except boats so they can keep the one at Yakutsk for all I care.

On the citizen management front: I 'm not sure Newtown needs a factory as Rusuccuru can make better use of the shields from the oil well than Newtown. Also, a number of towns need to have tax collectors/CE's changed to cops as they have both factories and commercial improvements like banks and stock exchanges. Anytime you have that type of infrastructure in this government it is better to use cops than other specialists. There are excpetions to this rule, as always, so you need to look at each town individually.

We have a ton of money, so use our spy network to advantage. Sabotaging production and stealing war plans is always fun.

Have fun at the wars, peace.

Nice work on the steel Plarq!
In my summary I mentioned the deal with William was over which included horses. I would presume we could still end that deal and I didn't see a renewed deal in the post. I think once this is cancelled game is back on again.

I like the idea of pillaging the Greeks in half. I think we likely cut off their coal already so now it's the rubber and I still think their oilfield at some point. We need a superior navy vs. the Greeks.

got it. will see how far i get tonight. i will try not to suicide any more armies this time out.

Here is my dilemma:

We need to trade out Atomic Theory, then hope someone will research Electronics for us in less than 15 turns....

The best candidate is Spain who will empty her pockets and closets for it (she throws in 154gpt and 170g on top of everything else)

TT01_1600_00.jpg

Renew the Iron/Coal deal with Spain as we need the luxuries and I can use luxuries for leverage in the next technology deal.

Plant a spy in Netherlands just because I can.

Steal Alex's troop dispositions and also Cathy's.

With ten thousand in the bank and an income of over 1000gpt decide we don't need commercial improvements any longer so I mobilize the economy which of course burns the shields at Cartahge invested in the palace :smoke: forgot all about that one.

Keep turning out galleons, cavalry, infantry and settlers and reinforcing both Russia and Greece from the closest town. Built some towns in Russia to roved for landings, claim the horses and furs and cover the rubber inside our borders.

The Greeks really really want In'chon as they pour every infantry they have at the town. Artillery redline a lot of them and kill one with a cavalry, and two more with the Army...but there are still a ton on the way.

This recon photo is typical of every turn from now until 1635:

TT01_1605_00.jpg

Leader hunting with the elites in the garrison is unsuccessful, kill one Greek but lose a second elite infantry against the crippled attackers. If I did not have reinforcement off shore would not have attempted it.

The Greeks keep pouring everything they have towards Inch'on and I keep fending them off with artillery and careful cavalry attacks.

In 1620 bust some infantry south toward Seoul with Artillery support to interdict the waves coming at us before they hit the borders. The result is a battlefield promotion and another infantry army is formed.

In 1625 the KGB reports that Seoul is defended by 13(!) wounded infantrymen, a truly tough nut to crack.

But as the Greek infantry heal they move them out to attempt an assault on Inch'on and the artilley shells 'em and our cavalry kills the cripples and retreats to heal up.

In 1630 Novgorod falls and gets pillaged (all improvements sold) and burned. Two boatloads of settlers await transport across the strait to rebuild in Russia.

The Greeks keep moving their healthy infantry into the open where they are prey for artillery and cavalry attacks.

Steal Combustion from the Greeks in 1635-40 and upgrade galleons to transports. Shift the frigates guarding the strait south towards the Greek island, and use the transports to move workers and reinforcements to Russia and Greece.

Once the Greek forces at Seoul are reduced to a manageable number start the battle for Seoul

The Battle for Seoul in 1635

TT01_1635_00.jpg

Artillery barrage and five cavalry attacks, no losses and the city is ours.

In 1645 continue to kill Greek infantry and and in Russia capture Yaroslavl, at the cost of a single cavalryman.

In 1650 destroy New Cadiz so we are now in firmer control of our piece of Greece.

TT01_1650_00.jpg

We are now in control of both the sea and the land battlefield in both theatres. With enough reinforcement coming on line every turn to replace any losses and continue to kill the enemy troops as they emerge in the open. We also control all critical resources except one oil field under Yakutsk on the far island.

The campaign plan is a straightforward one. Push hardest on the Russians and use artillery to soften them up. Their defenses are thin, no more than three effectives in any town, but keep stealing plans or invesitigating cities before you make an assault. Spot towns two fields away with artillery and infantry and cavalry, shell the defenders down, then assault the gates. If you don't have enough attacking forces to be certain of victory, wait for reinforcements and use the interval to pick off any bogies that emerge. The tempo of activity is yours to control so take advantage of that.

As for the Greeks, drive across the island like Sherman, cutting them in half, using the same tactics of combat settlers supported by infantry and artillery. But don't be in a hurry. Once the south is isolated we can turn our attention to the north and their metropolitan towns.

As for our economy we are earning 1000+ gpt with a pile in the bank. Don't be afraid to spend. Once the Russians are bottled up in Yakutsk, make a peace treaty, demobilise and take a shot at Hoover's again.

Bede it's like a stand up going after Jerry Seinfeld. Great work!

I got it.

Can we demobilize when we are still at war with the Greeks? Don't we need to make peace with both first?

Make peace with one and mobilization ends.

I'm half tempted to play a shadow on this one. You have some really nice turns coming up, so have fun.
