Trouble installing older games on XP

Hello,

when i try to install SMAC on win XP, i get this error message:

16 bit windows subsystem

c:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt. The systemfile is not suitable for running MS-dos and microsoft Windows applications. Choose "close" to terminate the application
(close or ignore are the options...nothing happens, just back to the desktop, can't install it)

i have xp pro + sp1
Someone told me this error applies to older games in general so i'm asking here
Help appreciated in advance!

Your best bet is trying to find a site (preferably an official one) which adresses this problem and has some sort of patch.
XP sucks for playing older games, I can't even play my old Close Combat games

Try googling 'SMAC XP" or something like that
Chances are, you're not the only one with this problem.

Many times Dos games wont run in windows because of sound, try to download and use a program called vdmsound.

If not only with a Dos boot disk or an emulator of Dos for windows.

SMAC - sid meier's alpha centauri, has an official patch that takes care of win2k/Xp problems. It is found on the firaxis homepage @ www.firaxis.com
