Truffles?

Or create a new policy, drug legalization which would provide a happiness bonus to certain resources, ie. hemp.
I would say that it would probably fit best in the freedom tree.

I don't find this a very good idea, it should benefit luxury resources overall, or none at all. It's too situational.

fine, whatever... im just not giving up on hemp. i just think it should be in as an industrial resource, to eliminate any controversy, aiding in the building of certain units and buildings while also providing a bonus to production

So are salts and copper going to provide a +2 gold bonus? Crabs as well? Along the lines of Pearls? Doesn't make sense as luxury resources, of all the things they could have selected.

Salt makes a ton of sense. Copper makes decent sense, especially early. It was often used in jewelry, etc. I agree with crabs.

I tend to agree. However, the icons on the side are almost exclusively reserved for luxuries.

Now mint is going to be overpowered stacking on three luxuries (or is it 4 with gems?). What other building does that? Even though you will never get all four in a workable tile, it is just an extra chance to get another resource that can be doubled with mint. Monastery only stacks on two luxuries.

Seems kinda messed up. Maybe dyes could stack with cities that build amphitheaters. but some other tile bounus needs to be given to these other luxuries. Doesn't have to be a spronounced as gold or silver but luxuries need more uniqueness.

Yeah. But I don't like that some resources are more powerful than others. Of course gold is more valuable, but it makes for bad game play if there is nothing to offset that.

According to the resource link, plantations only stack +1 gold or did I read that wrong? Is there a tech down the road that makes it +2 gold with improvement? I feel you should get two of something each time. Maybe a food or hammer point upon improvement.

Sugars/Spices/Salt should have a +1 food bonus. Most other things should still get +2 gold, or it should have a building/tech that enhances the tile bonus.

Copper +1 hammer after bronze working. +1 after mint.
Dyes +2 culture with amphitheater
Sugar/Spices/Salt +2 gold with market.

Things of such.

Copper has +2 gold, has seen in screenshots.

Sorry, I was thinking from mints, as an idea for adding variety.

The map became a lot more interesting when they added bonuses for resources with Granaries, stonehouse, etc. Yeah, I hope they do more of that.

Meh, now I am not excited about any of the new resources.

As has already been mentioned, they need to mix it up more. Civ IV had a more simplistic and better model.

What I also liked was how you need ivory for elephants, copper for spearmen, etc. Not to take away some civs UU's, but I feel as an add on requiring those resources, ie) India may build chariots for the time being but can add elephant archers with ivory, Greece may build spearmen but copper would add hoplites as an add on, things of such. Just a pet peeve I guess, no big deal.

(Side note) Knights should consume horse and Iron simultaneously IMO. Make those units exceptionally powerful while at the same time making UU's requiring only the horse or nothing at all all the more better.

Is there any relation between boars and truffles? I thought I remember seeing boars on the map in the pictures, but the resource provided is truffles. Aren't truffles a candy?

lol, naw man truffles, real truffles are a fungus that grows in the woods and are sniffed out by pigs, a real delicacy, but to me if just seems there are many more resources that ought to be put in the game before truffles, but hey, the more the better i think, it adds diversity

Ok... so real truffles are like a mushroom that is eaten, and candy truffles have nothing to do with them?

yep... man i just had this pulled pork sandwich the other day and it was covered in this truffle sauce, so damn good, but i couldnt help but think just how ironic it was, pig sniffs out truffles then gets killed and covered in truffle sauce, yum! Anyway back on topic, if theyre going to put in truffles they should also put in pigs and if you have both maybe you could some kind of addition to your truffle resource

I'd be up for pigs. I even would take it one step further and make food/production/gold resources trade-able. If you have bunch of quarries with excess stone, trade to someone who has a bunch of 'nanner plantations. Or trade all those fish for some excess gold. Not sure how it would affect those buildings that get bonuses for sources of resources ie. granaries with wheat. This may be overly complicated, but the city the resource was traded from gets the resource it was traded for.

Example Paris trades wheat for London's stone. Paris gets extra hammers from stone works, and London now gets an excess food from granary.
