- How many City States did you acquire with Venice's ability and did you take any cities through combat or peace deals?
Took Antwerp with first MoV from Optics (from Great Library), wasn't intending to take a CS that early but by that point had found that we had no way to explore east and the cluster of CS to the south-west were a bit far away and on the other side of the Zulus (who I DOWed straight away to explore south).
- How did you use religion or spying to your advantage?
Took +production from sea tiles pantheon and later got first religion. Didn't go too aggressive to spread it as that wasn't a major focus, but did use religion for CS quests.
Initially used spies to rig elections where there wasn't any other useful quests. Later on got Globalisation and switched to diplomats for the extra votes.
Had a spy in my capital for counter espionage, virtually every civ stole a tech (was in the lead from early doors) and some kept stealing but useless bugger didn't catch a single one of them!
- How did diplomacy go with your neighbors?
DOWed Shaka as soon as we met them to steal workers and to allow our scout to explore south, so diplomacy didn't start well.
Had game-long friendships with Moroccoa, Portugal and Byzantium which we used for nice trades and later on RAs.
Towards industrial era took out Shaka because we could and to get more votes.
- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions?
Went full-on wonder-whore which wouldn't normally do but it was fun.
- Did the the patch change how you play a diplomacy game or change how you treated the AI?
Still not sure exactly how to time getting through the various eras and techs, seems that whatever you do you end up with ~20 turns of clicking next when the game is essentially over. Almost certainly could have got a much much earlier win.
