- How many City States did you acquire with Venice's ability and did you take any cities through combat or peace deals?

Took Antwerp with first MoV from Optics (from Great Library), wasn't intending to take a CS that early but by that point had found that we had no way to explore east and the cluster of CS to the south-west were a bit far away and on the other side of the Zulus (who I DOWed straight away to explore south).

- How did you use religion or spying to your advantage?

Took +production from sea tiles pantheon and later got first religion. Didn't go too aggressive to spread it as that wasn't a major focus, but did use religion for CS quests.

Initially used spies to rig elections where there wasn't any other useful quests. Later on got Globalisation and switched to diplomats for the extra votes.

Had a spy in my capital for counter espionage, virtually every civ stole a tech (was in the lead from early doors) and some kept stealing but useless bugger didn't catch a single one of them!

- How did diplomacy go with your neighbors?

DOWed Shaka as soon as we met them to steal workers and to allow our scout to explore south, so diplomacy didn't start well.

Had game-long friendships with Moroccoa, Portugal and Byzantium which we used for nice trades and later on RAs.

Towards industrial era took out Shaka because we could and to get more votes.

- How did the difficulty level affect your game decisions?

Went full-on wonder-whore which wouldn't normally do but it was fun.

- Did the the patch change how you play a diplomacy game or change how you treated the AI?

Still not sure exactly how to time getting through the various eras and techs, seems that whatever you do you end up with ~20 turns of clicking next when the game is essentially over. Almost certainly could have got a much much earlier win.

Ribannah,

How do you get from Radio to Plastics in 22 turns (with even detouring to Fertilizer)? Were you friends with the whole world and did 7 RA's finish?

Also, from Plastics to Telecommunications in 12 turns? In my best replay I needed 25 more turns.

With a hep of GSs I would guess. To save 25 turns (in fact more) you need to burn 4GS. In diplomatic game usually you want to burn your GS to enter Information Era just before WC meeting.

What he is effectively asking is how to go from Radio to telecommunications in 34 turns. That is not easy to do.

Well, 8 Great Scientists and two free techs help a lot. :)

Also, we already had 5 turns into other techs when we took Radio.

There were no research agreements.

turn 334, again, just the same turn as in game 107 i just tried on monday

it has been fun, i had played venice before, but allways as if it was any other occ, using the merchants for gold, this time i tried buying the cities, in addition to my usual strategy spamming wonders gl+nl+hg and this time i didn't do tech tree the way i allways so i was sure i could achive GLighthouse and colosus

i had some trouble at the beggining and stood some turns with negative happiness cos i didn't realize i was buying antwerp

my strategy with spying is always the same, first one counterspy any other as diplomat for ideology, beeing this game prince diff maybe i should have tried CS cos i had no worries on ideology, but i didnt need to so it wasn't a bad choice, i even didn't need to foun trade routes with anyone else but me, i was sooooo rich, so i used every trade route as an internal, wich game me a little headache towards the end and had to pick some hapinnes tennets i wasn't planning to

other than i said, the only thing i changed on my usual strategy cos of diff level was that i usually manage my own my speciallist when i get to rennaisance, cos i have to many of them, and keep it locked till i get the half food thing from freedom (allways take freedom since i allways go tall) this time i didn't need to, it has been fun to play venice this way cos i finally got to play wide without all the thing i hate from playing wide

didn't even read about any patch before starting

i never take embassies cos i never build an army and i don't want to be a target for everyone else, specially for chaka, who i had to bribe 3 times everytime i saw him at my border, when i bought my 4th cs and had a """"larger""" army he stopped annoying

gajamanda, who was far enough, had the most powerfull religion so i din't even have to buy an inquisitor this time, i used the first GP that spawned after religion and used him on my 4 CS they were never cconverted although chaka had also a religion (i guess lame enough not to be able to buy a single GP)

by industralization i had found every CS there was using only land units (even 2 workers helped) and 2 ships from a CS i bought, i only wanted to ally chaka first cos i feared his army but he never propossed, he coveted my land and wonders and thowught i was spamming new cities to fast (i swear i wasnt) only the lesser civs propossed and i din't want to ally them cos of fear of chaka, so, as usual in my game play, i did no allies at all during the game

i was never dow'd thanks to my chaka bribe and since i allways get the 15% growth religious thing i obviously never start any war

but there's been one thing i didn't unterstand, by the time i thought the game was going to end, i bought 3 GS to rush satelites) ther may be a quicker way to get to information but i always beeline satelites after atomic then use the two tlescope GS to beeline from refrigeration to telecom (this tme since i didn't care about tourism, i directly beelined globalization)

it was turn 198 when i entered information, and i had control of every CS i hadn't bought (6 of them, i think) and i thought having control of every CS there is having passed world religion and ideology was enough to win on the first election but i missed 1 vote, had 30 of 31 or something like that, i didn't add 2 more up for the second election, so same result, and had to wait for the third election (whic i won 35 out of 29 needed thatks to globalization) what am i getting wrong about diplomatic VC? please help
