[TSL] Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack

Gedemon - I have a question about adding a custom CIV to the map. When you say "the civilization type name" are you referring to the main file name of the folder that I saved in my MODS folder, or is it something within the mod's file folder?

When I try to load the Giant Earth map, it crashes the game on me. I have 4gigs of ram in my computer so I wonder if this might be the problem?

Gedemon i sent you a PM with the LUA log to my issue.

Thank you for the wonderful Giant earth map!

I have already enjoyed couple of standart games for Russia and England, and tonight I started another one for Japan.

Thought I have checked "realistic resource placement" and haven't checked "historical resources near civilizations" and was surprised that there is no iron for poor japaneese people or even somewhere nearby, but a square of Iron near Indonesia.

Was this intentional? Playing with historical resources near capital seems kind of unfair, because it makes one city rush too easy, though Japan without Iron seems also kinda strange...

---------

Another questions is: could somebody provide links to DLC mods witch are compatible with this giant map?
There are lots of minor civs addons here and I am afraid to start a long game without knowing for sure that I won't find somebody is a wrong place. :)

I was looking for something to fill South America (Inca), Spain, Australia, Micronesia, Kazakhstan.

--{Edit}---
Uh... I found official Firaxis add-ons for Inca, Spain, Denmark (0_о) and Polynesia (0_0) - Am I correct in my assumptions that Gedemon's repeating "DLC compatible" answer covers all of those?

Still, I want to fill the giant gap between China and Russia, because they can dig deep into Syberia without facing any opposition, which seems unfair.
Does anyone know if somebody made Kazakhstan nation with TSL for Giant map from this pack?

And Australia also never gets attention of AI. It never settles a single city on that continent, so moving TSL for Polynesia to Australia seems like a good idea. Sorry if it has been already implemented, I recall somebody posting about it earlier in this topic.

But aren't the Mongols there? AFAIK they are one of the most expansive civs, and can take on that area.

As for Australia, I once had Siam and Japan have an all out war over the control of Australia, but the AI is kinda...sometimish. I don't really like the idea of Polynesia in Australia. It just doesn't make any sense, imo.

it's the Type row of the Civilizations table, defined in one of the mod XML (or sql) files.

something like "CIVILIZATION_ENGLAND" or "CIVILIZATION_GERMANY", ...

4 gigs should be enough.

the "realistic resource placement" is exclusive, it prevents defined resources to be placed in some regions, but it does not make sure that some resources will be present in those regions. that's still random, and the "historical placement" is used to compensate.

yes, all official DLC (at the date of this post) can be used...

... and TSL for custom civs can be added, see first post. ;)

edit: note that since v0.10 a civ that as no tsl for the selected map will not appears in the available civs during setup.

I won't change it, but it can be modified (same as addind a tsl for custom civ, except one should replace the tsl entry instead of addind it)

Another question:

I prefer playing maritime nations: England, Japan - and always face the problem of efficient force redeployment across the globe. In real world there are such useful things as Panama and Suez canals, I always try to settle two cities (at Panama and Suez locations) to make it possible to cross the globe in just several turns.

But in your version of earth map Memphis and Petra make it impossible to settle on the proper tile, to move from the Red Sea to the Mediterranean, because of "3 tile" rule.
Since moving these two cities would lead to enormous deviation from their real-world locations, I suggest replacing northern "Flood Plains" tile by "Atoll, Ocean" tile (ocean would prevent Europeans from "trireme-rush" poor Indians before they could make it in-real-world). And strategic role of Egypt would be greatly increased, and by opening and closing their borders Egyptians will greatly affect world's naval traffic.

:crazyeye:

Could you please offer a "Dummies Guide to Downloading this without the modhub?" Joking aside, What I mean is, I am downloading this, but then it doesn't show up in the game. Am I opening it wrong? I've been using Stuffit to out the .zip. But I'm not good at this sort of thing.

Thank you!

Hey I was just wondering if there is any stone in this map, what with the recent patch and all.

you shouldn't have to open it, just download in mod folder then click install from in game mod menu.

if that fail try to clean your cache folder, remove the .civ5mod fils from your mod folder and download the file again (see first post for folder location)

No stone yet, I need to update the mod for the new patch. I will post it later, testing it right now. Everything else should be okay.

Alright, so I made a couple of my own changes to North America here in the YnAEMP.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

I greatly decreased the amount of snow and tundra in Canada. I don't think there should have been that much tundra in Quebec, or any tundra in Newfoundland. I also added a couple hills in Newfoundland since it's kind of a rocky place.

I added some tundra to Baffin Island (that weird shaped island on top of Quebec). I also added a couple tundra tiles to Greenland.

I added Nova Scotia to eastern Canada.

Did a bit of tweaking to Hudson Bay.

This is just a suggestion, but I think you should enlarge Alaska and the surrounding area.

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Added a lot of the European tileset to North America, except for in the centre. I think this is very realistic to the real world (see the Great Plains). Though I may give you a screenshot that shows even less "Americas" tileset.

Gave Mexico the Asia tileset, like South America.

I hope you consider these changes I made to this great map :)

@Oohforf : could you post your version of the map so I can have a look at the rendition ingame please ?

btw small update today :

v0.11 (Jun 29, 2011):
- patch compatibility : allow stone placement on maps

you'll have to compress the map in zip or rar format, then use advanced posting here, manage attachments and upload the archive.

or tell me if you can't, I'll give you my email.

Alright, hopefully I did it correctly.

I also removed some of the Americas Tileset, to match the Great Plains more correctly.

There you go.

I also want to edit Japan sometime soon by adding in Kyushu (that island at the bottom of Japan)

thanx

ho, OK, so that's the AI choice to place those cities too close, not much I can do...

Thank you for the awesome Giant Earth map. Out of all the maps that are TSl, yours are the most enjoyable and accurate. For some reason, in my current game, Siam took over southeast Asia... But it is an excellent mod!

I've made a test game on Europe's map, and the AI seems to settle (a lot) more cities, I know that wasn't the case and an issue with the others huge/giant maps of this pack, so I need feedback on how your games goes with the new patch... (btw YnAEMP is not affected by the civ selection bug thanx to the custom setup)

Especially on the giant earth, where too many cities could make the game unplayable in the late stage. I still plan to set a variable minimum city spacing based on region, but I'll like to know if it must go in the "asap" list now :D

Hello. Just bought this game last night. And, also downloaded your mod and installed it.

After not seeing the "custom game" option at first, a couple of restarts cleared taht up, and I got a game going.

Today, I was going to go ahead and start a real game using your mod, but now there is only one civilization showing as an option in the setup... Not sure what could have happened in the last 12 hours... I can load the auto-save from my test one last night, and it seems like all is good.

BUt, trying to do a new game, I now only have one civilization showing up in the setup.

Any ideas?

Thanks for your help.
