Pre-Flight:
Not much to change, swap madras 2 to settler and MM for no growth (settler due in 3). Took a goosey at our military list, its pretty good. Rep parts due in 18, then we will be invincible! Swap the two settler builds around capital city to markets to improve our commerce. Will see what I can do this turnset. Have to wonder why we have irrigated the cow next to delhi though, we are runnign at +3fpt in that city and yet are stuck at size 12. Doesnt seem much point to me...
Goals
- Get a bit of infra around our new core
- Burn Persopolis
- Start pillaging other civs.
Lets go!
IBT - No attacks, a bit of pillaging but no damage.
Turn 1 - Start by redlining everything within range of cities with cannons... and then I see it... potentially our doom... the AI already have Infantry! Pick off several cavalry and a rifle for no losses, also no leader (6-0).
Mining lots of irrgated grasslands around our new core, shields for infra out of there is more important than growth right now. Realise that we have lost 2 of our pillaging cavs... we need 2 cavs per pillaging army so we can handle rail roads in 1 turn. Send 1 army home to meet up with 2 new pillagers, the other army heads north toward china.
IBT - 4 chinese cavs attack 2 fortified rifles on plains and all 4 lose (10-0), coastal pillaging, nothing to worry about.
Turn 2 - Same as before, redlining, picking guys off. No leaders (17-0) a bit of a lull right now, will try and go on the offensive. I pick two new city spots. One 3 tiles from Babylon which would form a very powerful choke point to which would draw all attacks not from the persians. I will cover that settler with a rifle army, 2 elite rifles and multiple cannons. The other is simply and expansion point to push further into Persian territory. Our pillaging army links up with its cavs.
IBT - no attacks but a whopping
22 Greek cavs show up by Babylon

China unloads 2 cavs and 2 infantry by Ellipi.
Turn 3 - Pick up and move Madras 2 and rep parts drops a turn and our income jumps +5gpt. Holy dooly thats a big change for a 1 tile move!
Anyway time to pick off these Greek cavs. Cannons to the fore! Redline most of them, then start the charge. Pick off every member of the 22 man stack, plus some other cavs further south. THen swing the cannons round to redline our 'guests' then pick off them as well. No losses, but no leaders (41-0). Our settling party is going to start getting ready now.
IBT - lose a galleon on defence to a frigate (41-1). Lots of chinese cavs and infantry show up.
Turn 4- picking off baddies nets me yet another leader, use it to make a cav army. With 3 cav armies we should be able to take down persopolis. (67-2). Lots of guys are coming every turn but we can deal with them. The settler will take 2 turns to reach its destination. Accidently fat finger an attack on Nineveh with one of our pillaging cavs and suprisingly, refreshingly he kills the vet rifle and gets promoted to elite! (68-2). I am wondering how to slow down China, they are headed towards KAI status and we need to take them down a notch. 1 pillaging army will slow but not do much. They are proving to be a challenge. Still, once we have rep parts we will be immensly more powerful.
IBT - succesfully defend against 3 cav attacks (71-2). Not too many guys show up.
Turn 5 - picking off intruders yields another leader. Decide on a defensive army. 3 rifles now, should add an infantry when we get the chance.
(84-2) Take an immense risk, but one that pays off perfectly. Decide to risk the pillaging cavs with an attack on nineveh gambling that with the death of the first rifle there would only be one left. Our cav wins flawlessly and razes the city.
IBT - nothing to fuss over but we suffer a few nasty setbacks with coastal bombardment, specifically with it taking out improvements on mountains, they'll take a while to replace

Turn 6 - move settler group onto choke tile. Found the city next turn. A lot of rifles and infantry in our territroy, very few cavs. Pick off the intruders i can. Infantry I wont risk cavs on so I cover cannons with rifles and redline them all. Then pick them off. No losses and we clear our land (103-6) oh yeah, and we pop my 3rd leader of the turnset... can someone explain to me why I'm the only one popping leaders? Am I just using up all the good RNG luck for each round?

oh yeah, continue clearing and pop the 2nd of the turn and 4th of the turnset

Sometimes its jsut better to be lucky than good. Dont know what to do with this one, the other 1 formed a currently empty army. I'm actually thinking of using it to rush some infra. We have more armies than we can fill right now. We have 3 attacking cav armies in the field headed to Persopolis. 2 Pillaging armies, 1 WE Army used for home guard and 3 defensive rifle armies. Decide I want another pillagin army. Thats 1 of the leaders taken care of... the other forms an empty army who will sit in Capital city till I find a use for it.
IBT - nothing to worry about, just lots of guys.
Turn 7 - Found Babylon Choke and Persian Choke. Both are protected by a rifle army and are working on walls. Pick off invaders by the dozen (119-7). Our 3 cav armies, ready for battle, are at the gates of Persopolis.
IBT - Nothing of any interest.
Turn 8 - Aha! The big one! Begin the attack on Persopolis. The first army (20/20) wins all 3 battles against vet rifles and is reduced to 10/20. The 2nd kills 1 vet rifle and 2 reg rifles and is reduced to 1/20. The last cav army kills the lone cavalry and is unharmed, 17/17 (126-7) and captures Persopolis. I was goign to raze it... but it has Sun Tzu's one hell of a wonder in this game. I know its a huge flip risk... i know its a huge gamble and if it flipped it would be a HUGE mistake... but I hold it anyway. Free raxs are just too good to pass up. It comes complete with market, bank, aqueduct and expired oracle. Only 6 resistors in a pop 11 city... then i see we are top in culture! Who would have seen that coming? Set to temple, will rush it next turn. Now that we have free raxs i sell EVERY rax on the new continent. 5 gold each one and no loss of anythign... how can we lose?

Now to pick off the intruders. ( 131-7). I think if we can capture to the 'Susa-Babylon Choke' front then we can win. That still involves burning several persian cities, probably Ningpo (Chinese) and Atzcapotazalco or watever its called, and to fill in that space. That would give us a 3-4 city front and would allow us to advance in a single direction, rather than hickeldy pickeldy.
IBT - we lose Persopolis in the interturn losing 20 max hp cav army and 2 vet cavs. We lose it to the greeks though so thats good as its garrisoned by 2 cavs. (131-10)
Turn 9 - start by retaking persopolis without loss and garrison two cav armies to heal, and 2 3-man rifle armies. The plus side of losign the city is we managed to drop 2 pop in 1 turn... still, would rather not lsot an army to do it

pick off 7 cavs. (139-10). Hopefully will be able to pick up another leader this turnset...
IBT - our armeis succesfully defend against wave after wave of cavalry from all sides (153-10). Heaps of Chinese Infantry show up at Persopolis (whos resistance ends) and with no cannons our 2 rifle armies are going to have to hang on. Hopefully now that we get the +50% bonus we will be alright.
Turn 10 - Clear some intruders (169-10), send a 2nd pillaging army to china. Realise the first 1 has been pillaging shanghai which means beijing is nearby. Ahhh a very dull turn so I'll pass on the save with a number of cannons still to be used. Also several worker moves still to do.
Post-Turn:
Well the different computer has affected my thinking ability, some things I wasn't totally happy with... Persopolis is in danger, not from flips. Rush a temple there next turn btw, but because it will be heavily targeted. We may need to keep the 2 rifle armies in there for a while. I'm trying to get a rail to Persian Choke so that we can get cannons to Persopolis in 1 turn. To do that we need to wait till next turn then rail the hill between new ganges and new dacca. The rifle army in aztec territory is our 2nd pillaging army for china. Suggest making a 3rd cav army with our next leader to replace our dead one. Also I would make razing Susa a priority to reduce cultural pressure on Persopolis. As i've sold our raxs for cash it makes holding persopolis doubly important. Keep starving till size 1, once it goes below size 7 immediately rush walls there. If we raze Susa and can establish a strong defencive front along the line between Babylon Choke and where Susa currently is, we wont have much to worry about, provided we keep it together and make sure we upgrade all rifles to infantry and all cannons to artillery as soon as we can. A lot of rifle armies are 3-man 1's, once we get Rep parts I would suggest adding an infantry to those armies. Also I'd concentrate on getting rid of this silly irrigated grasslands with our workers. ESPECIALLY ON OUR HOME CONTINENT!!!! It might also be an idea to cash rush a bit of infra in our new core rather than handbuilding it. Specifically, markets libraries and aqueducts but it depends on what we can afford. When Rep parts comes in I would also suggest setting research to Industrialization. Factories back home could make a world of difference. Industrialization --> Espionage is my vote. I want to be able to steal.
