Turn Discussion Thread

Someone might want to run the calculations again but that warrior *might* be needed for a turn or 2 when our pop starts getting higher in the capital. I needed him in there in a couple of my test games before the gold could be hooked up.
We won't need him until at least size 5, and that will be a while off since we're building our Settler at size 4. But yes, we should keep in mind that we'll need a Warrior in the capital before growing to size 5 (or before growing to size 6, if we have the Gold hooked up by that time).

I would like to see a city picture, the picture of the island is not so important.
Sure, here you go. :)

This image I layed out what I think is optimal city locations for the Island. All land tiles and Fish are workable and fall witin BFC of the four cities. I think everyone is agree on City C. I propose City E to not only get Metal Mountain, the fish but also work the Silk instead of just settling on it. Though B will suffice as well; City G can get the remaing tiles plus it's own fish to help it grow and use the hills it has. It may be a good production city.

Discussion is here...

Time to move the Warrior for fog busting and I second the motion for a "To Do List" sort of thread, this way we can choose our actions and if there is something that someone really disagrees with we can focus on that while still having a plan of action.

The Warrior should fogbust on the Silk 3NW of our capital, that will prevent the greatest number of barbarians from spawning.

When do we build another warrior though? I don't want to tempt the enemy teams and it would really look bad to get taken by any barbs.

The enemy teams CAN'T get to us, because of the ocean ring around us. Humanoid barbs won't appear for some time, after our borders have expanded and we've spawn-busted the entire island. I'd probably consider building the Warrior sometime after the Library and Settler, when we're getting towards size 5/6, for happiness purposes only.

As far as I understand, it is impossible for enemy teams to attack our island until Astronomy, unless they settle a city on the mainland for a culture border (which we will see coming a good time ahead).

From turn 25 the warrior on the silk east of the gold (i.e. 3NW of capital as LP says) will spawnbust the whole island, at which time if a barb hasn't spawned already it never will. I think it's still technically possible for barb cities to appear however. The two key squares the warrior needs to block are 'City A' and 'City H', and there is only one square that is 2 spaces from both of those. Once city 2 pops its borders once we can consider moving the warrior somewhere else.

We should build a second warrior at least when we need it for happiness in the capital.

EDIT - darn that Lord Parkin and his faster typing.

By the way, I think the city sites AlphaShard has drawn in the turn tracking thread (turn 16, post 19) are pretty much settled on (pardon the pun), other than the fact that the SW city E could be moved to 'B'. I've kind of given my thoughts on this already, I slightly prefer 'B' but they're pretty similar.

How did it take you 32 minutes longer than me to type that?

But yes, I agree, obviously.

EDIT: With both posts above.

It's all good so long as were getting team input :)

I do think that City B and E are going to get pretty much the same tile. It just matters if you want to settle on the Silk or work the silk. I thought it would be nice to work it.

Actually, I prefer E, but for no reason at all to do with the silk. City site E can better share cottage tiles with the capital, growing those cottages before the capital is even able to use them. Then beauro + HR = more goodness.

That was my thought earlier too. Better to share cottage tiles with the capital than the second city, because of the Bureaucracy bonus later. :)

I'm at work, I start typing, then get back to work, then finish typing, then get distracted by something else, then click send. I've been beaten by more than an hour before :) Sometimes I remember to check for new posts before pressing send, but not always.

Only if it's a foreign city would it have to be three apart.

Is City E as marked legal placement for a city? I thought cities had to be 3 tiles apart.
Yes, it's a legal placement. If you count, City E is 3 tiles from the capital. :)

Only if it's a foreign city would it have to be three apart.
No, a foreign city could be founded in the same place, as long as they got rid of our culture there first (i.e. take our capital).

Turn 17 - 3320 BC

Scott played but forgot to post. ;)

Nothing new revealed (obviously, since the entire island has now been fogbusted). Warrior heading to spawnbust barbs on the Silk tile 3NW of the capital.

Once the warrior gets to the silk the only tiles that animals/barbs will be able to spawn will be G and 1E of G, and that's only until the capital's borders expand.
