Wotan, please either play on time or resign. Given the recent developments in this game it is clear you are doing more than just pressing enter to keep the game going. I'm sure you can understand how Paul and the rest of us feel. There's no need for me to justify Paul's reminder or this post since you did it so well for us.

Spoiler :
It is now almost 3 days since BABE played the last turn, I am new to demo games but right now I see the progress in this game as ridiculous. What on earth can require teams to need a full day for a turn? Especially on a weekend? If the leadtime is this horrendous at this point in the game, will we have made it to 10AD by this time next year??? Maybe this is not the right place to bring this matter to the other teams attention but something has to be done about this if the game is to be enjoyable. I would have imagined weekends would allow for speedier progress with maybe a full turncycle per day...

Really annoyed now, no turn played and none on your team that could have figured out the wrong turn was sent 35 hrs before your post...

And no alternate to play the turn in your absense? Would have assumed another teammember would step in in a demo game. Instead of letting all other teams fiddle their tumbs for so long. Your team lacks respect for the other teams in my opinion when putting everything on a player that is not available... Just my 2 cents but really disappointed in this MTDGs progress. In a SG you have 24 hrs to post a got it you your team was AWOL for much much longer. We would like all teams to make sure turns are actually not dependant on a single player being available.

From another player on our team who digged this up from the rules we agreed on:
1.1 - The Save
All teams are required to play the save within 24 hours, unless they request an extension in the Turn Tracker thread. After playing the save, they must send it to the next team via email. Additionally, the turnplayer must post in the Turn Tracker thread to indicate the save has been sent. The next team's 24 hours begins after said post.

I guess it could be an issue, needing extentions when dealing with dozens of cities and units, but at this stage of the game it is simply ridiculous...

I too feel for you guys in GONG, it is unfortunate you have such an uncommitted team. I there anything the entire MTDG group of players can do to assist you? Do you need additional turn players? Do you want us to start bullying others we know but that have not joined the game to enlist for team GONG?

But it is impossible for us to have an understanding if not privvy to the reasons behind it. If TimB is the only available turn player on team GONG this will probably be a disaster in waiting. Relying on TimB to be available throughout the passage of this game sounds as a forbidding idea and I sure hope he will have some assistance from others on the team else I guess he will have nothing but MTDG2 on his mind and on his computer for the next couple of years. And I do hope he will have time to play for our team in SGOTM12 ;)

Not having full disclosure as to what is behind a team's silence is just aggravating and starts all sorts of reactions to start surfacing. Not our team's intention to bully someone in a precarious situation. Sorry about that. On paper all teams are within a couple of participants of each other.

Calm down... If Wotan leaves, who will play BABE's turn?

Telling me to calm down usually has the opposite effect my friend.

If Wotan can't play on time, has no interest in the game and no one else on his team wants to step up and play the turns then BABE should resign / retire. BABE would disappear from the game and the rest of us could finish the game out in a timely manner. As I said above I will not try justifying either Paul's reminder or my call for BABE's retirement - Wotan himself did that much more eloquently than I could hope to do.

Thanks Rick :)

It's a bit of a pickle letting someone from another team essentially take over BABE… as it raises questions of where the real loyalty is at.
However, I'm inclined to agree that if the takeover is going to come from any team, it makes the most sense for the takeover to come from GONG.

Speaking for myself, the slow place of this MTDG is bit frustrating & dampens general enthusiasm… but doesn't totally kill the joy of the game.
For me – the biggest problem is just the lack of information. In every PBEM game I've ever played, people always lose track/get distracted/forget it's their turn multiple times. I'll admit even I do this from time-to-time.
That's one of the main reasons we have a turn-tracker thread… to keep track of who has the save, to notify others when we'll be slow, and to offer reminders when it's our turn to be distracted/forgetful.

I know Wotan is busy, and I appreciate the fact that he's soldiering on without much (any?) team support – but I still fail understand why we can't get some notice of when to expect the save. Even on a slow internet connection (like I have) it only takes a few moments if you bookmark the page, it assures everyone that you haven't forgotten, and is really a considerate thing to do for those of us who would like to know when we can generally expect the next save. The completely open-ended waiting can really drag on and (I think understandably) fray some nerves.

Since I've totally given up on any actual enforcement of the MTDG rules, I would personally be much happier if we just got regular requests for extensions when the save is going to be delayed more than 24 hours. Or even just when the save is going to be delayed more than 48 hours. :)

EDIT: … that way – when 24-48 hours have gone by without word from a team, other players can make an educated assumption that someone has sincerely forgotten, and the reminder posts are actually helpful, instead of perceived as nagging.

While I'm personally probably going to vote in favor of letting you switch – this should probably be handled democratically, and let the teams or individual players vote on allowing this move…. Since it does have very big potentially game-changing consequences.

If you DO move to BABE, I think it'd be 100% necessary for you to rescind your membership in and access to GONG. Unless you're proposing that GONG just takeover BABE? In which case I'm most certainly opposed. - I'd want some kind of assurance that you intended to play BABE as a separate team and play to win… not just to provide military cover for whatever [top secret plan that no one knows about] way GONG plans to win.

Turn 168 to Council, no need to post reminders Paul, when I am able to play the turn I do it.
I had the impression that at times my reminders - well reminded you that you had played but forgot to send, or forgot to play... :dunno:
At least I had the impression that it worked, I did certainly not mean to annoy but rather "encourage" you ;)
Sent request access to Team BABE, should my access to team GONG be canceled from now on?

If i leave GONG i will play to win with BABE yes :)

I support this move.
Actually I'd also love to join you but I'm feeling too comfortable with my current team  and adopted The Council's philosophy way too much to switch.

Ah, by the way: turn 168 to SABER

team BABE... :bump:
