Turnplay Log

Well, if we don't like the situation we can always walk away at the last moment. And by walk away I mean nuke Aloha & Innovia instead of Epsilon.

I'll try to turn some leaves over tomorrow night. Work is hitting me hard this week, but tomorrow night is open

Ok after the message from Innovia I guess they become a prime target. If there are other options let em be known.

Aloha is 11 turns from artillery. We are 2 turns from Fission at 100%, and 11 turns at 0 research from Democracy. Kremlin finishes in Hamburger next turn. We need to calculate whether to build factory/coal plant or what there next. Manhatten is 1500 hammers, 2x speed with uranium which we have. Leonidas makes a factory in 8.

We are making some workers in the capital and other places, and a settler. Aloha says they can research combustion, and give us 200 gpt to hasten Rocketry research once artillery is in. In exchange we give them all techs known as long as they dont give them to innovia or Epsilon (esp. Fission, Rocketry). Rocketry will take I dont know how long at 100%.

If we should attack Innovia, Port Tropicana looks quite inviting. Sea based, closest to us, and we can move on to cut their empire in half. Need some workers to make rails probably.

Edit: I would guess Rocketry (7100) would take about 12-15 turns. So 23-26 turns to build Manhatten. It can get up to 36 base +25% +100% (81) w/o factory (18-19 turns on Manhatten), or with Factory and coal plant it will make 100 thereabouts. Factory/coal plant (400 hammers) takes about 9 turns there in Hamburger, so no problem in working all that out. So we can wait to discover Fission another several turns and resume back on Democracy next turn.

Rocketry will take 7 turns at 100% with -100 gpt, and 9 turns at 80% at +112 gpt, both with Aloha gold. So I am inclined to say that we need to take Universal Sufferage early, and rush factory-coal plant, and do the 9 at 80% in the Burger.

Our position then should be:

-11 turns til artillery @ 250 gpt per= 2750 gold on top of the 2K we have now (4750).
- 9 turns until Rocketry with +112 gpt= 1K (5750 gold)
- rush factory/coal plant (~300 hammers (600 gold), what is the rush cost with Kremlin, 2 gold per hammer?)
- -300 research for one more turn on Fission
- still have enough for ~7 nukes.

Hamburger needs to start building Manhatten asap I guess. So uni sufferage next turn? What else, free speech? State property to prep for settling?

How do we escape Epsilon's attention while we settle new lands?

Who wants to count tiles to see how many we need?

We complete the Kremlin in Hamburger. It goes to wealth to carry over the hammers to next turn for Manhatten (Fission in 1).

Balderdash finishes a worker and starts on a factory due in 8 with growth in 6.

All other cities continue on their merry way with banks and factories.

Epsilon has burned Port Tropicana so we dont have a port to sail into from our end and will have to build a settler to allow access if we proceed that way.

Epsilon has burned Port Tropicana so we dont have a port to sail into from our end and will have to build a settler to allow access if we proceed that way.

A very shrewd move on their end. Even if they didn't suspect collaberation between us, this slows us down for settling/invading.

I really don't know how we can escape their detection, and even after that point we'd have to defend those lands for 20 turns in order to acheive victory.

What are our chances of organizing an effective attack now against Epsilon, even with Aloha's help? Epsilon's forces are away in Innovia -- perhaps we write off Innovia (good riddance) and muster what we have now for a sneak attack?

I also find it quite disconcerting that Epsilon did not share with us that they were planning to attack. They did tell us of the attack on Loco, did they not? To me this says that they suspected some collaboration was in the air.

We are in a tough, tough spot. But let's continue this on in the anarchistic vein of the Piffle tradition, and do whatever we can to keep everybody guessing.

Who wants to count tiles to see how many we need?
I counted 244 land tiles within our borders. We are currently showing 14.60% of the total land.

If I've done the math correctly, 244 tiles / 14.6% would mean there are a total of 1671 land tiles on the map. Domination (68%) would require 1136 tiles.

Well I think we can say cultural and UN are out, domination is unlikely with those numbers, space race is unlikely against them, so that only leaves conquest.

To that end, I suppose we should go about eliminating Aloha in the fastest possible manner and hope to finish them before Eps finishes with Innovia. So we need a war plan for Aloha, version 2.

Given those demographic numbers that you posted, is it realistic to believe that we can take on Epsilon by ourselves? I think you said their production was something like 5 times that of ours. To be honest, I'm not sure that this game is even winnable by us. :dunno:

That is my take as well, but I didn't want to say it without looking at the Domination limit first.

If the game is not winnable I say our best plan is to do whatever will be the most fun. But if we are trying to win then we probably need to attack within 5 turns in order to give Epsilon a two or even three front war.

So we need a war plan for Aloha, version 2.
If we're going to attack Aloha, it would be nice to have an updated map. Quite a few of their cities are still under the black fog. Maybe we could ask Epsilon to send along a map to go with those intel photos?

Alright turn played. Fission is in, and Manhatten begins in Hamburger.

Workers are railing forest mills and mountains and then they will build our rail network.

We are building factories and some banks in some spots. A cannon completes at Phooey fwiw, and a great scientist is born there. What do we do with him? Add him to the capital (oxford)?

I also ask for world maps from Epsilon and Aloha per Conroe's suggestion. Epsilon sends us the offer of silver for hit musicals and spices.... Hmm about even, I dont think we have any grocers to take advantage of spices but do the deal. Might as well keep them guessing on what the heck it is we are doing and play nice. Also, Aloha can get artillery in 5 with 165 gpt so send that. We make 75 gpt after that, with Democracy in 14.

The troop contingent in Hamburger, all our galleons, head west towards the port to decide if we want to join on Innovia or go to Aloha.

After thinking about it, the Most Fun thing IMO would be to declare on Epsilon with Aloha's help. We can hopefully knock out enough things (uranium, roads, population, buildings, units) to make it at least a closer game. And Aloha's gpt will surely help get Rocketry with still enough of a stockpile of gold on hand. Maybe we can whip nukes too. Hard to say how much destruction we can cause and how many nukes we can muster with chops, buying, and whipping.

Oppenheimer plan updated.

I like the fun route too. I think the more pain we exact the better. Scorched earth and somesuch.

Hi peeps. I haven't posted in here for ... well, months. Apologies. Congrats for playing so well!!! Doesn't Innovia feel pretty stupid right now?

I like the way the plan is headed. It is clear for this plan to work, we have to deny Epsilon their uranium. How do we do that effectively?? I suppose taking that canal city (is it sunset fortress??) so we can get around there is a good start. I also note that their big advantage is production, so the first strike should be to try and nullify that - what are their high hammer cities/ possible iron works, etc - let's bomb the crap out of them.

This is no doubt in the wrong thread.

You need Fission in order to build nukes, right? Or is it just Manhattan? I've never used the nuclear option in civ4. Does anybody else have the tech?

You need Fission to build Manhatten, and Rocketry to build nukes (req. Manhatten, Fission, Rocketry, and Uranium). Satellites enables SDI, and bomb shelters are enabled by someone building manhatten and the builder must have I think Electricity.

The desertation is wicked in civ4. IIRC it accelerates around plains and flood plains.

Can someone else play? This thing really feels like work and I have been too lazy to post turn reports for the last 4 turns. I'd really like to hand it off.

Or we could just give Eps the win. Aloha and Innovia really cant say much about it.

I'll go ahead and play it this time around in order to get the game going. Unfortunately, I've not a lot of free time these days in order to be doing this on a regular basis.

I believe there is an option to "retire to AI" or something like that. Would this be something we want to do? Assuming we can't find someone else to play the save ...
