Since I'm new to Civ III, playing my third game so far(won one Regent, one Monarch, now almost won Emperor, matter of time) I was several times on crossroad with governments. Not goverment itself, but anarchy periods. I was wondering how does game decide how long will take gov. switch. I play now VIkings on Emperor level, Archipelago, 60%water, huge, 12-13 civ(cant remember, not many left:)) and being a scientific leader now and having huge empires with distant lands I minded to switch to communism(as I did later). My great concern was these 8 turns it took(did several load-save to investigate), bcs previous time i switched, It said me, it will take 5 turns. Then I reloaded, bcs I ocasionally forgot to manage some cities and meanwhile decided to switch one turn later. When I switched, I noticed period will be 6 turns. Then I decided to investigate. Two turns later period of switching had to beeven longer - 8 turns. I did completely nothing , except milking some cities, conducting workers to work and did some settlers rushes from my newly conquered cities, etc, bcs I just finished war with Hannibal(wiped out, gave me 8 cities sueing for piece, leaving him with 6-7. Generally, war wearness made my ppl unhappy, my aliances were expired, so I decided to "give piece a chance" for a while instead of managing citizen moods each turn). So, my Q is : Of what Anarchy period depends? I have several saves, 2 turns before discovering motorized transportation, one tuner before and after this, all in democracy. Seems it does not depend on your science and where u are at research of current tech, bcs 2 turns before MTR, period was 6 turns, one turn before - 7 turns, after it - 8 turns and such. There was even a turn where it says it will be 5 turns. I can give u save files of this sveral consequent turns. Maybe population of Empire? Or city count? This is my first game with non-religious civ and is real PITA to decide to switch and fight or stay in Demo and only taunting enemies, persuing Space ship victory.

My second Q is:
What do mean - Productivity, GNP, Mnfc. Goods in game? I wrote down number before in Demo and after in Commi and bcs i found huge differencies, I was wondering how these things are applied in game and what to judge by these numbers.

Anyway after switching commie, I wiped out Aztecs, bribed Gandi with me and now Im leader in everything, keeping reserch pace almost same. The only bad thing is that Gandi is taking cities which must belong to me! so Im forced to make units obstacles for his armies behind the frontline. Berserks rox!...if u manage to have 8-10 cities able to produce them for reasonable amount of turns:)))

10x in advance!

P.S. I mage google search on forum for such questions, asked before, but wasnt able to find any...sorry if these q's are answered before

1 question: There is a value you can change in Editor. It says something like: maximum government switch (in turns). It stands max 5 for monarch (i think). So, if i got it right, its a matter of dice thown at the point you choose to change government.

2. GNP stands for gross national product (we call it "bruto nacionalni dohodak" in croatian :) ). It is the "sum of all money and traded goods earned by all citizens of the country, brutto (without tax deducted etc.)". Not sure how CIV3 calculates it though. But since your "money income" in communism is smaller than in democracy, i think that's why it is smaller.
I just checked in game:
GNP: Total money all your cities earn (tech+gold)
Mfg. goods: number of shields in all cities (dunno if corrupt is displayed here)
Annual income: number of gold (that goes to treasury/luxuries) divided by number of citizens total.

So, in current game I have:
population: 90771000 (dunno maybe foreigners count less?) that would be 970 citizens total.
GNP: 4466 (can be seen in "from cities" if you press F1)
Mfg. goods: 2163 megatons (i produce 2163 shields per turn? wow)
Pollution: 2 tons (i have 2 polluted square right now, so it must be it)
Annual income: 14 per capita: every fella at my place earns 14 gold/turn for me average;

Hvala, Bibko! :) Btw, I have very good friends, playing IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles online from all Serbia, Slovenia and especially Croatia!

Anarchy period, for non religious Civ, can last 8 turns (CIV III and PTW); 9 turns (C3C); and will depends of 2 factors:
1) Number of cities, from 1 to 4 turns of anarchy according the number of cities.
2) RNG number from 0 to 5 turns (purely luck).

1. Size of empire.

2. RNG.
