U.S. History Essay Topic

Andrew Jackson is a really interesting figure in American history, and one of my favorite presidents. You can write about the paradox of his leadership, as he advocated small government, dismantled centralized banking, and yet greatly expanded his own powers as president.

He was also a bad ass that didn't take sh__ from anyone, and often challenged people to duels.
 
Side note: one thing I wish Meacham's book did better was focus on the internal Democratic politics while Jackson was in the White House and especially his two vice presidents (Calhoun and Van Buren) and how this related to EG's notes on his actions above.

Instead, he wasted his time talking about the Eaton affair. Over, and over, and over again.
