UF1 - The Deep End

Well, I looked on save and my intake is: with our huge standing army we need to attack somebody.

Egypt seems to be a logical choice.

I would not add to standing army, it is big how it is. I would concentrate on development and direct money and effort to get more city states allied. More exploration is needed.

Yeah agree with all of this, we should take over Thebes/Rome and then consolidate our position. We will get some bad rep for warmongering but be able to block off China and settle our lands in peace.

Ok ,sorry for the luck of screen shots. I took them (or I believed so), but when I looked screen shot directory was empty?

How we take screen shots in civ 5?

Back to game.

Follow the plan.
Capital in we love king day but optimized for production.
I live it like that until library build , production to horse but optimize for grow.

When We love king day finished, change it on focus on production.

Army - start to move to Ramses, took barbarian camp, earning points with almaty(If I remember correctly), I trow additional 250 gold making them allies.

It is military state, still it is good, they give as horses which actually let as to produce more. I pillaged farm in neutral territory earning about 40 gold in process.

Turn Egipt build GW was signal for attack.

WE pupeted him and he is dead. Gandy get upset, finish our cooperation pact.

Trow 250 gold to our old maritime ally to keep him ally.

IW discovered and one of our city states give as 4 iron, I upgraded 2 warriors.

I believe out current army is 4 horse(5 next turn) 2 swords, archer and scout.

2 GG. I left on near Rome,

we will start golden age soon, if we do not sell resources .

Army moving to china. Out army currently unstoppable and Rome is not treat. I will wait full 30 turns, he does provide as with resource and gpt, so no reason to hurry to kill him. China spawning cities, we better kill it now.

ON sad note, on second turn of my rein unmet civ enter medieval age.

I assume this was a typo, since it was already focused on production. What did you mean to say?

I mean to say that after finishing library I change optimization to grow.
We love king give bonus to grow.

So the final haul is Stonehenge, the Hanging Gardens, the Pyramids, and the Great Wall? That's 11 culture/turn, 3 GE points, 1 GA point, +3 happiness, +50% worker speed, and slow enemies in our territory . Should we wait for a GE to be born before we start running Scientist specialists? Chichen Itza synergizes well with our UA.

Its the same way, however they come out in some bizarre format. You need to download a tool like Gimp to convert them to .jpg. Hopefully this gets addressed in a patch.

Darrell

Using the PrtScr key also takes schreenshots in tga format? Wow, that's odd. I'm on a Mac, so its fn-shift-F11 for me.

i suggest irfanview to convert the screensaves. it has a batch-mode to convert multiple images at once (press T, then B to reach it when viewing a screenshot)

Here's what it looks like at the end of Mutineer's turns

uf1a.jpg

Ok this situation is a little awkward with Rome settling in between our cities, but I guess we can take him out with a second wave of units or something, with Mutineer's troop builds I feel compelled to attack China. We might be able to follow up by killing all other AIs with our existing troops and winning the game straight off if it works.

t86: Pasargadae grows to size 6 and hires a scientist, starts Settler. We want the site Cumae is on so we can connect our cities, Rome has to go and I don't want to wait for him to build more units. 2 horses will stay behind to clean up Rome while we attack China with other units. In the meantime our allied military CS, Almaty, is apparently shooting its own warrior for no good reason.

t87: Almaty gives us a unit! This will be useful in the upcoming mop up operations against Rome! Oh wait, it's a scout. Thanks... maybe I can use it to soak fire from a Roman city or just disband it. Surely this is the most useless city state ever?

We didn't get much from Caesar for the previous peace treaty, I demand his 56 gold + 9gpt, he refuses so I declare on him and raze Cumae.

t88: This puts us into unhappiness, which I want, because it delays our golden age until we get more tile improvements up to properly utilize it, and settle our Cumae-replacement city. The only downside is Persepolis didn't get to grow to size 8, but I don't think I could have both allowed the growth and delayed the golden age. Scientists hired in Persepolis for now, we are researching mathematics

t89: moving into position for the attack on Guangzhou

On the computer's turn, Wu is a clever girl.

uf1b.jpg

I decide to be honest, and it turns out this gives China the first attack, worth 2 damage of city bombardment. Venetian troops kill a warrior by Shanghai and another one suicides onto our drill 2 horse.

uf1c.jpg

t90: Raze Antium without incident, begin attack on Guangzhou. Our sword at Shanghai decides to hold for 1 turn in the hopes that city state troops will soften the city up a bit. I delete our scouts that are just costing us maintenance at this point, we have the archer/scout for combat duty and Horses can scout once we finish the current war

t91: Guangzhou is taken by the 2nd attack of our drill 2 horse with archer support. Raze. Our happiness is pulling back from the 500 mark nicely, we should get our happiness resources back at about the time we settle Cumae's replacement. I am starting to build roads to get some sort of trade network going.

City state troops are moving in to help with Shanghai. On the computer's turn the allied spear dies horribly to a chu-ko-nu + city fire.

uf1d.jpg

t92: advancing on Shanghai with the cavalry/archer, but it's the turn of our sword to die horribly to the city/CKN combo, might lose a horse taking this city. Not sure where China's army is. Apart from this one CKN I've only seen warriors, but if they have more CKN's somewhere this could get messy.

t93: Nevermind that last comment, China moves its chu-ko-nu out of Shanghai after attacking for no apparent reason, where it promptly gets squashed by a horse. Nice AI work there. Our horses are getting xp at Rome in the meantime by cleaning up Caesar's troops (all our bonuses let us pick off lone spearmen easily)

tech: Mathematics -> philosophy

t94: scouting with our scout/archer reveals Beijing is erm... somewhat vulnerable to attack. Not sure where China's army is or if they even have one at this point. I decide to get creative and move into position to take it after hitting Shanghai once (I want to see if our city-state ally can take it)

uf1e.jpg

t95: 4 attacks and Beijing falls and is puppeted. It looks like my plan is working and China will suffer the humiliation of being eliminated by a city-state next turn. Oh, our 2nd sword just finally made it there

uf1f.jpg

Seriously, what on earth are the AIs doing this game?? Egypt decided to OCC and China built warriors only apart from that one CKN.

Killed another spear at Rome, total roman troops rebuilt were 2 settlers, 1 scout, 1 warrior and 2 spears. 3 horses are there now and should finish him in a turn or two. We have extra silk and marble now, sell these to Washington and Gandhi for 260 gold each, they are complimenting us on our large army. I figured they would be east of China but I still have no idea where they are unless that thin strip of land NE of Beijing leads somewhere or there's land north of Egypt.

tech: Philosophy -> sailing (pearls at Beijing)

TheRat should be up next

research wize I think we should get optics, so we can move units try all this water faster.

Got it, so I will consolidate and try and explore a bit more. Agree to go optics for faster sea exploration.

Pre turn
There is actually a possible passage east of Beijing, I will surely explore that, heal our units before moving on.

IT Venice takes Shanghai and we get furs straight away, I have not seen a city state take an AI city before. Kudos to them

ub250a.jpg

Turn 96 - 475BC
We may pick a new social policy but I hold on for now til the team has a consensus where to go
Start to change Beijing's farms to trade posts
heal all units there, send the sword back into our heartland to fight off barbs which might pop up

decide to sell India Open borders for 43gold

Turn 97 - 450BC
I hate it how the computer changes your MM of cities when you avoid growth, employ 2 scientists and suddenly all is changed the
following turn. Rectify this for our capital
sailing is in, go for optics now

move a horse east and spots barbs on a landmass east
start to attack Rome with 3 horses
settler moves north to found another city

Turn 98 - 425BC
Conquer Rome

ub250b.jpg

Found Ecbatana and our happiness is still positive due to the new resources we got
So, there are currently only 2 Civs we know but we don't know where they are

Turn 99 - 400BC
optics is in, go for currency next as some markets would do us good.
Explore land and continue to heal units, most of them have promotions which I didn't use

Turn 100 - 375AD
connecting Susa makes our income jump to 27gpt
There is definitely more land east, wr meet Cape town (Maritime!!!) for 15 gold

We're not doing too bad in terms of research I'd say

ub250c.jpg

Turn 101 - 350BC
disperse a barb camp, meet Monaco in the process and get friendly with Bucharest due to the camp dispersement
Return the captured worker and we are friends with Monaco (cultured)
They provide us with culture, hence not bad

sell whales to America for 98gold + 3gpt, but we are now 6 unhappy

we also meet Sidon in the process

Turn 102 - 325BC
we lose grasp on Almaty, am not going to renew such useless friendship
we got cultured and maritime cities enough

take out another barb camp for gold

Turn 103 - 300BC
just as we lose grasp on Almaty, he gives us yet another useless scout, gonna disband it within our land, send it to Rome

in the east, we landed on a mini Island with ruins. take out some barbs first
since currency will be in next turn, wait to pop the ruins (no idea whether that makes a difference)

ub250d.jpg

Turn 104 - 475AD
I head for civil service as it is only 7 turns, we should keep the GS that will pop soon for bigger goals
I think our goal should be banking next for our powerful UA and FP anyway

clear the barb camp for 25 gold and then pop the ruins for 50 gold, bummer

Turn 105 - 500AD
we meet another 2 city states in the north

we have still quite some land to explore
I left the gold untouched, the social policy as well
We have a ton of money, I wanted to wait for the second maritime state for a mission or until we are happy again
we have quite a few colloseums going and then can pop some settlers
are we going for the ics strategy or simply trying to take out the AI as soon as possible?

I have not found America and India yet. We have 2 horses north, one left in Rome and the rest east.

Oh, and our roading project are continuing

Our land with the new northern findings
ub250e.jpg

The fast expanse in the east, seems there is much to explore. I just sent 2 units to sail across the land

I would not call military city states useless, we just had bad luck.

They give random not absolute unit we can produce and have resources for (no civ specific units, just general if we can produce civ specific).
So right now we can get scout, warrior, archers, spear, sword, chariot or horse rider.

In addition, almaty supply as with horses, as we now do not have surplus horses I would consider paying them 250gold, so we can produce more units.

I purposely didn't make any decisions regarding city states and left us with so much moolah, we can ally anyone we want. Currently, we need to fix happiness to start to be able to expand. I make a :smoke: move to sell whales to America as Monaco is useless in connecting it.

I would try and find India and take them on as they are most advanced it seems. they might be a little far away though. We might want to rush some settlers to settle east.
