UI disappearing, reappearing, no mods.

Hello there everyone, thanks in advance for any attempts to help me out.

I purchased CIV5 through steam (great 4th july sale woot!), knowing that, even though the description boasted it runs on many systems, i would have performance issues.

The issue im having is this: the ui disappears shortly and reappears constantly, especially when any sort of menu pops up. the terrain is there and visible, but all buttons, menus etc are gone for a few seconds and then come back.

It's not completely crippling, but its annoying to play for more than a half hour at a time.

Any suggestions?

I'm not sure exactly what information to post about this system, its my familie's desktop, a dimension E520 with probably bare minimum hardware to run.

After looking at the DXDiag: No, not the bare minimum, it's miles under it.
This computer has a graphics card, which was already low end when the computer was built, and which is not supported by Civ5 at all.
And the graphics card driver was last time updated...er...probably never, it's from 2006.

You should try, if installing the latest radeon legacy drivers changes anything. If not, you'll have to buy a new graphics card.

Hey J, do you think a 2009 dell latitude d830 laptop might fare better? i play fallout new vegas on it on minimum settings with little trouble, i realize i am mnot giving you much information, but it is out of commission right now.

Just curious if i might have luck with it when i get it running again (had a new mobo put in there, now it doesnt start)

Just checked the notebook with google, it has a Intel GMA X3100 as graphics card, which is as bad as your current graphics card.
But people have been able to play with that card too, so it might be worth a try (but also update the graphics card drivers before). But it's really not sure if it will start at all.
