UI improvements coming

No amount of patches, updates, dlc, or expansion packs will ever fix the UI, just as none ever did for Civ VI.

We’ll still have civic and tech trees with no art accompanying the respective techs.
We’ll still have those ugly solid while icons denoting “Scout” and “Warrior” instead of beautiful Art Deco paintings a la Civ V
We’ll still have those ugly flags behind the Leaders instead of the gorgeous paintings from Civ VI

Hopefully Civ VIII in 2035 looks better

I’ve wondered lately if the game is going to get review bombed at launch. It seems likely to me. Everything launches somewhat unfinished and a Civ game especially won’t really be completed until the second expansion is released at a minimum.
Sigh.

I don't mind the aesthetics of this current UI, but I just cannot fathom why they hid how many hammers a building costs, how many beakers a tech costs, how many happiness a celebration costs, etc.

How can I make intelligent choices if you don't give me all the relevant information?

Similarly last night I was at war with Greece and went to hover over their unique unit. The game would not tell me it's strength, whether it had taken any damage yet, or whether it had any terrain bonuses.

I just can't wrap my head around not including things that are fundamental to playing the game. Again, this is entirely sidestepping any question of aesthetics

I think the cheap mobile knockoff aesthetic of the UI is just a symptom of how little they cared about the UI, I agree that the most egregious thing about it is how much information is deliberately hidden from the player.
