UNGY-01 Another spy attempt

OK- a bit of MM'ing needed with the workers--we need to connect up the rail network and restore irrigation to our Globe city and I see we're workshopping some towns--I'm not a big fan of that at this point--I tend to only do that once I need the hammers for space parts.

As for civics--what's with pacifism? Way too late for that IMHO--the specs are not worth that much this late and the spec cost has risen a lot and we have a huge army to pay extra maintenance. Last set a judgement call on theo/OR but I think here we want OR. We do have buildings to build--factories for one.

I'm also a bit surprised that Monte didn't cap earlier but we definately take it here.

Basically just regroup and clean up this set--still I think we're in very good shape.

I'd like a skip this round. I'm too tired to play properly which ain't fun for me and ain't fair on the rest of the team.

OK- we have a critical need for spies. We need to get communism for the intelligence agency. Only 2 spies is disappointing--I think at this stage of the game 10 should be a bare minimum and even that seems low. I think Shuyhe's strat of the flood then takedown the sec bureau makes sense.

We revolt to: US and OR.

We have lots of buildings to build--again I don't get pacifism at all. We pay around an extra 70g/t over OR and get a few extra GPP--we are not running any GP farm.
I don't think we need any more transports--we have 13.

We take peace with Monte:

I change a bunch of builds to spies and disband some obsolete units. Those are not worth upgrading IMHO and are no longer useful.

I also redeploy part of our army--we have almost no units in the east where we could face QSH and like 80 still after Monte.

T3 we send 9 spies into Hanzhou.

Interestingly enough Monte won't take our city back.
Also we don't get to trade with him so maybe just as well to keep it.

t5 we add 4 spies to Hangzhou--2 have been lost.

we trade for health with Sitting Bull

t9 we take out the sec bureau in Hangzhou and steal Lib and Communism.

I set up Tlatelolco as a GP farm:

Civ4ScreenShot0240.jpg

that can be improved as we get the health fixed.

we can really use and engineer or merchant for corps.

t11 we steal electricity and medicine from QSH. Each costs around 2200--which is only around 30% of the beaker cost. We're up to -6 on the causing trouble scale.

Cut espionage to 0 for a while to build int agencies.

Over to the next spymaster--a peaceful set really lets us rock our economy here.

Survy is still trying for a culture vic. We should either broker peace between Ragnar and Survy or gobble up one of the two - otherwise Ragnar will get too much land. Survy is fielding cavalry/rifles vs. infantry at this point.

Got it, guess I'll start fielding out some infantry, spies and more destroyers. It's looking really good, there's no way we won't win this. Only weed I saw was that we've forgotten to bribe Monty into mercantilism but we can afford a plantation of weed at this point so no biggie.

Ragnar is willing to sign peace for a little less than 1300 gold (one turn of income), I will take the deal.

I suggest we take out the Khmer next. They're backwards so it should be a quick and clean sweep. Their culture is a little too high as well so it minimizes the risk of losing the game.

Played a quiet set, but whoever's up next should declare on the Khmer. They're researching corporation atm and still don't have combustion, so a naval bombardment strategy should prove successful if we strike now. Destroyers and infantry vs cavalry, riflemen and ironclads. I suggest we take out the northern cities bordering QSH and his capital first. 2 of his cities are above 40k culture and the last one has Hermitage, so I'm not comfortable letting him live much longer.

I assigned EP points so that we can see Ragnar's territory and the inside of Monty's and Suryavarman's cities. At this point we get more EP than we can use so I swapped most specialists to engineers for hammers. Discover gems in London's BFC on my first turn.

I liberate the city on Monty's island:

Monty's lacking resources to grow his cities so I gift him everything we have spare of:

At the end of the set he's looking much better:

I gifted him combustion and gold as he had a bunch of frigates/galleons. His navy is now better than the Khmer's. Everyone he was non-annoyed with already had the technology so I saw no reason not to gift it to him. Ragnar is friendly towards Monty so our diplo is boosted. We can bribe Ragnar to wars as it is now, currently a war vs Sitting Bull could prove good as both AIs have a lot of power. The only problem is that SB doesn't have infantry (he does have destroyers though IIRC).

Also constructed Mt. Rushmore in Alemanni, we'll be immune to WW with police state, so fire ahead.

QSH will get industrialism soon, but we have 6 spies waiting for it in his 2 cities on our continent.

Remember to draft every turn in our GT city, I must admit I forgot it my first 2 turns.

got it for tonight and promise to only play 10 turns this time.:mischief:

Seems my pictures hosted on imageshack died, strange. They weren't that important though, so meh - just Monty getting destroyers.

 Are we still planning on going for SS?? It's really starting to look like a domination or diplomination run here :D I think the AI tech pace is slowing down since we're staying in mercantilism and denying oversea trade routes.

I am fine with either. We could probably win much more quickly with either of those strategys. (But winning a SS victory would be the ultimate triumph of the Espionage strategy, I think.)

We'd be much faster by dom but the captain wishes ss...

Once we capture sury can we possibly liberate those to qsh? I mean, somehow we should get him teching if we want to wait those endless years until he finishes the techs we want...

To me dom certainly would be most fun. We didn't plan it initially, so rag might be a problem -> more fun.
But really, its your call ungy.

Can't say I'm that motivated to go all the way to space. It's obvious that we can win whichever way we want at this point. I was ready for space earlier, but we're just doing too well to make it exciting now.
