Uniforms

Have you ever noticed how military uniforms have gotten bland, boring a well practical for modern warfare, I guess, but remember when the uniforms were colorful and extravagant, boasting a countries power? What uniforms do you think were the best modern or historical.
In my personal opinion its Sweden's uniform from the mid 18th century, what with the blue and yellow. Prussia's were also pretty cool. (post pics too by the way)
icounldn't find a swedish one, but they're in the untis forum under the cossacks collection. this ones a prussian hssars uniform.

I think the marines uniform is the best, of course i am biased.

eh, dress uniform arn'y that nice anymore either, but that just my humble opinion, im a little obsesed with 18th century unifroms, and everything about the 18th century for some reason...

I think that has been the trend for a while. How do you think my British ancestors made the US a republic?

As evil as the Waffen SS were, you have to give them points for style. They knew how to make evil look badass.

I like the old Luxembourg military unifrom.

They also used to ride to battle on pigs which is neat.

I'm perhaps a bit weird, but I think that the modern uniforms, with camouflage colors, are much better than the flashy ones of the imperial and colonial era.

They make soldiers appear tougher and more dangerous/powerful.

17th-18th century uniforms were not only expensive but also much less confortable. The soldier would be seriously handicapped at least in terms of mobility.
I like WW I uniforms.

The whole purpose of the traditional colourful uniforms (such as the red coats in the USA and Napoleon's blue musketeers) was to make it harder for the conscripts to desert without being found and hung/shot. The fact that it reduced incidences of friendly fire was an incidental and lesser benefit. Espris de corp was an extra.

Yep, I agree. The pre 19th century ones made the soldiers look too gentlemanly and not frightening enough. Of course, that could just be because I've simply never associated colorful uniforms with war and horror, unlike the people that actually lived during the era did. But whatever the case, camoflauge certainly does look cool.

Nothing is funnier then the old German spikes on their heads. They kept getting in the way so they started making detachable spikes for dress only and then just took them off.
