Unit in progress: railship

You sure are awefully pushy. And Rude. Be paitent. Neomega has alot to do. Like Laundry... or maybe some dishes.... overthrow the communist regime in Cuba and set up a bastion of ture and free democracy....you know. everyday stuff.

It is finished.... just needs to be uploaded today.....

There are 6 things I hope to improve with the next ship........

+fireballs are too red in attack C
+Falling Rail Slug smoke trails in attack C are a little too big
+consistency (two animations were rendered in YAFRay, 4 in blender, the death sticks out like a sore thumb)
+Laser shield in Attack A needs to look more like lights, and less like red lines
+needs a wake / water effects... allthough on close inspection of civ III original units, it may be better without
+glow on side washed out due to 160 color palette.

this one is going to be 4.5 MB zipped... a tad heavy... maybe that should be thing I want to change #7..

newayz... I gotta upload it via Thunderfall

I'm so excited I nearly soiled my armor. Thank you thank you.

EDIT:
+needs a wake / water effects... allthough on close inspection of civ III original units, it may be better without
I would say leave them out. Some people may want to use it as a space vessel.

@Neomega- Could you take a screenshot of the Particle effect settings you used for the explosion and also the texture?

Edit: Also how long does that take to render? Using YafRay must make it take forever...

Looks fantastic!

I have really been waiting for this one - it will be my new battleship-sized warship of the future!

Thanks,

Gaultesian

I had to switch back to Blender... Yafray doesn't do the halo effect.

The battleship death was a "happy accident" I think it looks cool as a series of multiple explosions...... but I really have no idea how I did it, except it had a low particle count (400), and I grabbed a whole bunch of faces, and duplicated them, then used the new object as my particle emitter. I meant for it to be one single explosion, but just could not get it to work.

I'll post a screenshot here sometime....

It took alot longer to animate in Blender than in YAFRay.... In Blender I had to OSA to 16 to get the same level of detail as 2x2 passes in YAFRay.... (if only YAFRay could do halo effects... :( )

Short question: why is the lasershield or whatever it should be next to the ship and not on top of it?
Or should this be a kind of 3d Laserpointing system for the following bombardement?

The laser shield... well I was kind of thinking a triangulation sensor system that bursts out a laser beam to destroy projectiles....

It is not on the top, because most ;) animations in civ3 have direct attacks to the front.... so the railship's front, (in this case its broadside), is the one that needs the most protection frrm those pesky destroyers and battleships.

For the death you could possibly turn on X Alpha in the halo settings. Maybe try and play with the color of the material it self. (not the texture color)

BTW, I would of never though of turning on star for the explosion.

I plan to play around alot more with the next one (preview coming soon.... 4 deck super carrier). The death was my first venture into particle animation... and switching back to Blender Internal renderer from YAFRay.

Unit is posted.
