The PTW Guerilla is great, but I think we need a partisan fighter that looks decent alongside the Rifleman or Infantry, that is, one with a rifle and without camo duds. Anyone willing to give this a try?

Something like this -

very true, stoney. i was going to post this request in the future if nobody did it first. the AK's should come with atleast Amphibious Warfare. the guy on the left would be perfect.

@stonesfan: you probably mean the guy on the LEFT, the guy on the right being a german officer, might want to change that, some people might misunderstand it
i'm not exactly waiting for a similar unit to be made, seeing how it is a quite useless concept in civ3

Actually I've found having invisible land units in Civ3 works pretty good for covert operations - pillaging and worker capturing. Of course it works better when its hidden nationality as well as invisible.

I had this long border with the French (the only rival a threat to me), and after I went to war with a weak neighbor on the other side, I've noticed workers and such near my French border disappearing. So the AI puts these units to good use, as well.

In fact, I've liked the idea so well, I'm going to add an ancient age unit for that purpose as well.

Oh yeah, after the first few incidents I stole the military plans from France and was tracking these French agents - they were busy; they were doing much the same to their other neighbors, the Russians and Germans as well.

No no no...the partisan is the guy on the RIGHT in the picture. I had left at first, but then I realized my error. He is on YOUR(The viewer's) left - but he's on the right side of the picture.

I should have just cut the pic in half.

ozy - The Seperatist is more modern than the PTW Guerilla! Come on, you know that! ;)

Any guy in ragged looking clothes with a non-automatic rifle would would splendidly, I think. No machine gun. That's the important thing.

While I'm at it, a late renaissance/early industrial age partisan (or a Napoleonic era Russian soldier, for that matter) would be nice as well. Kryten's Minuteman can fit the bill, though.

Actually, I was convinced that there was a rifle-armed version of Kinboat's "Belgian Resistor" but then rediscovered that there was a club-armed one and a submachinegun version only ...so I just threw in the towel --- I mean the separatist :D -- on my way out ...

.... ANYWAY, all that having been said, how about some colorful UU recommendations -- (1) UtaJazz's Villista , (2) his American indian Rifleman, (3) Wheel Gator's Boer Infantryman/Guerilla, (4) Sween's North Vietnamese Infantry (basic SE Asian peasant firing single-shot-action rifle) (5) the Arabian Bachibouzouk muusketeer Steph&Co. converted from Cossacks ( http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?postid=868586#post868586 )

... A Partisan for every culture group, perhaps ...?

There: have I redeemed myself? :)

Question: when you say "late Renaissance / early Industrial" what sort of weapons do you have in mind? It's unlikely that anything earlier than a flintlock (the Minuteman etc.) would have been used by irregular forces -- e.g. there's Kinboat's Industrial Swordsman ...

C'est la guerre,

Oz

Ozy - Consider yourself redeemed! :)

Anyway, I do know about all of those units, and some of them would work for some particular civs. The Boer Rifleman is the closest thing to what I'm looking for, but he does look a lot like the normal Rifleman. I might peruse the Cossack units and see if there would be a good generic Rifleman, so the Civ3 Rifleman could act as a partisan unit. He almost has too much of a uniform, though. :(

I'm not picky about a weapon for an early partisan. At the Civ3 scale, they all about look the same. Just a single shot musket or rifle. It would probably look better without a bayonet.

Come on, Kal-El, vouch for this bad boy! You know DYP needs him, badly. :D

I second this request

dont worry when my Cataphract thread was like a month old and on page 4, Kinboat finally desided to make the unit. Just keep bumping it:)

Thanks guys. Kal, offer to give utah a raise if he makes it. :D

Kal, sometimes sacrifices have to be made. :D

Oh well. I guess i'll just wait for him to come to his senses!

The problem with this is the AI will build nothing but the inviisible unit which forces you to spend the entire rest of the game playing cat and mouse with the enemy stealing your workers every turn. I tried it once with invisible covert ops and once with ancient shadow warriors and had to get rid of both. It gets dry fast. So my advice is never, ever have invisible land units in your mod or that will be the only unit the AI builds.

Um, better idea is just to increase the cost of such invisible units, to the point where the AI won't build so many. I have invisible units in ACW but their cost factor is doubled, which makes them fairly expensive.
