Unit Requests: Steampunk

Sounds good. I have the weapons (mostly) done. For the pistol, I ended up modifying a Luger, the rifle was only modified slightly from a normal rifle since it won't be able to be seen in detail at civ scale. The mace will be fun to animate (each link)! ;)

BTW: I thought all the unit names(asterisk'd) you gave were actually barsoom names until I read what you wrote; perhaps you should be helping make the new movie instead of Pixar!

EDIT: Latest Thark.. enlarged head a bit, added some chest pieces, and civ colored armbands. I think it matches pretty close (close enough).

Well, Alice is currently being rendered, and if the average holds out, she'll be done in about 3-4 hours.

She would have been done sooner, except that I seem to be a bit slow realizing that making units with bright red bits on them means that I should be rendering then on green backgrounds (like I did with my Gen. Beatrix unit), so I had to completely re-render her.... :wallbash:

The Units Master Post has been updated with all of the new units, including Tom's Tharks (Barsoom Units) and Hikaro's Alice (British units, Era 2).

Tom, you could use the Barsoom Units list in that thread as a reference, since I'm updating it as you go along, replacing the Ork units we've been using as placeholders. I have to say again, the Tharks you've posted so far look just great, and I'm working on getting a screenshot for you of them in action.

Any chance that the two of you could get together to make a flc for Alice's mirror from the file that Hikaro has? I think we only need one flc, because even though it will be a transporter pad, there is no separate animation that we know of for that. It would be nice to get that out of the way.

Is Hikaro making it? Whatever is fine with you and Hikaro is fine with me to get it finished. Will wait to see what HT :) says about it.

I'm working on the spear Tharks, finally got the animation mostly complete. I'm trying to make each type of Thark a bit different from the other so they can be more easily noticed from one another (besides the weapons).

Don't ever let anyone give you a hard time about "conversions". You're putting a lot of sweat equity into customizing these.

Doing the best I can with what I know! I'm actually glad I had the chance to do these, I've learned more than I ever thought from the hurdles I've encountered.

The model changed quite a bit, I found the original file I used; here was original model it was based off of:

You can see some of the similarities of course!

It's true. If you want to learn, and grow, try something you know will be difficult. For instance, I'm sure that you will learn alot when you get to making a Thoat! :D

If you say so. I'm very impressed with what you've done, and in fact your work has spurred a flurry of activity in me lately.

I might possibly contribute a unit (possibly, still unknown), but I will show a preview right now, it's a model from another game called Atlantica Online, and here is a link to an Atlantica Online database showing the unit. I might not be able to make an immediate contribuation (if at all, I can't predict future events! :), as no one can with 100% certainty), and it will likely take some time to complete. But it's possible to stick the Atlantica Online modified Thark onto the Atlantica Online modified Basilisk (which I haven't done yet).

I think I was the first to suggest using the Basilisks as Thoats, but that's not important. In the books they're described as 10 feet high, slate grey with yellow feet. The height could be achieved by scaling up, I think, and the coloring is your department. A Thark on a Thoat would be great - they're described as a culture that prefers to ride - a Red Martian on a Thoat would be terrific.

As for future events, I predict that a Thark on a Thoat wins the Unit contest!

I'm on a thoat! I'm on a thoat!

Is that a reference to a certain song by TheLonelyIsland, my dear grumpy old man?

Why yes it, young Tak-ak-ak-isis. I am up with the times.

Spoiler :
My favorite is Like a Boss.
