Unofficial BTS 3.13 patch

yeah thats what I was wondering too. So its best to just spread your spies out all over the place? (No 2 spies on any tile?)

Edit: oh wait, do you mean that if you have a bureau, spies no longer count towards capturing enemy spies. :I am so confused now.

It sounds like you want to have 1 spy in each and every tile, particularly those on the border where enemy spies have to cross.

The Security Bureau might obviate the need for this in all tiles in the fat cross of the city?

Yeah , Now load the other file (1.02) and follow the instructions (put these in "My Documents\My Games\Beyond the Sword\CustomAssets\python\screens" folder) to gain the "glance" screen back.

I'm really confused, because the above mentioned file is empty. However, the one located at C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Beyond the Sword\Assets\Python\Screens has a lot of files in it, including 2 of the ones to be replaced by the supplemental patch. I'm assuming the files actually go into the second location, not the one in the My Documents folder.

I just did a default installation, so everything should be where it's supposed to be.

I wonder... if that might be a difference between XP and Vista? (This computer has XP - I can check my Vista machine later)

No they go in the my documents folder because the 2nd directory is your core files. The first directory will be empty if you havent modded the standard game. The game checks these folders for 2 similar files and uses the one in the My Documents directory first I believe. This way if you screw up modding the game and need it to go entirely back to normal, you can just clear out the 1st directory, whereas if you changed the 2nd directory, you would need to reinstall the game. Basically the My documents directory is a parallel directory that sidestep the original install, the 1st directory.

Clear as mud? :P

Clearer than mud, actually. Pretty much water-like even.
Thanks!

I guess the reason for my confusion is that in the read-me file it says to make a back-up copy of the files you are replacing... but I was not actually replacing a file - there were no files in that folder at all, so there was nothing to back up. Perhaps the read-me file could explain that, so others don't get confused.
I don't think I am the only one who might be confused by this.

Would the following wording be clearer?
This supplementary patch addresses bugs/changes that don't need dll modification. Generally that means XML or PY files. I do not recommend overwriting your original files, although you can choose to do that (backup first!). Rather, in order to avoid overwriting any original files, the best way to handle the kind of files in this patch is to place them in your CustomAssets folder.
If Bhruic likes it, perhaps he can edit the current version of his supplementary patch, and even use it, or something similar, in future patches!

So you have deer, and they are offering it to you in trade? Hmm, I haven't seen that myself, but if you've got a save with that taking place, I'll have a look at it.

Bh

O.K. with this save end the turn and you should get offers of dear for oil.

just curious: why do you want to unfix a display bug  this has no impact whatsoever on gameplay.

Well for a start it's debatable whether it's a bug; as you may find find it preferable to have the net effect displayed rather than the breakdown. But mainly because I personally think it's extra clutter in order to tell me something I already knew anyway.

thing is that once you have a recycling plant up and running it won't show you the net effect anymore but rather a wrong effect (nothing instead of +1 :health:). But I do understand the clutter argument, I was just curious as I said :)

Bhruic,

Couple of things, one's a bug, the other's a preference.

1. Privateers inside a friendly port aren't able to be moved directly from the port into another civ's borders (in one turn) without the player receiving a declaration of war notice. For privateers to enter another civ's borders they have to first be moved outside of the port before the game will then allow them to enter another civ's borders without having to declare war.

2. Is it possible to make the AI actually build privateers more often? I use them loads so I'm always wondering why the AI doesn't. 'Free' Great Generals for one...

Sorry I don't have a save for this but in the game I am playing right now the enemy chariots have the 100% bonus vs axemen in name only... as in, they have just their regular strength 4 when I attack (and crush) them with axemen... very strange indeed. My War Chariots function normally (with the bonus).

Might be worth a look?

is this a bug or a random event??

It's a bit strange I don't play often but I've never seen this happen before at the very least I expect the opposing Civ to have a dominate culture in the area but he's no where near that city.

No, that would not have made it clearer to me.
The reason I was confused was that I was not overwriting a file - there was no file there to be overwritten. I was putting the sup. patch into a folder that was otherwise empty.
It would be clearer if it said something about "If you haven't modded your game, the folder you are putting these files into will be empty. If you have modded the game, you might wish to backup the original files in case you run into any difficulties." - after the instructions for where to put the files.
