Unofficial BTS 3.13 patch

How about the late game where AIs city garrisons consist mostly of corp executives and you can steam roll even the most dominant civ with little resistance?

I recently got to see some of my enemy's cities through esp spending and ... out of 10 units grarrisoned, usualy 5-8 are corp executives.
Anybody else noticing that?

Bhuric has already put a fix for this in his patch. Its listed in the first post.

Ah, I'm glad you are around to tell me what I "should" and "should not" be doing. Whatever would I do without you?

And my apologies for not realizing that you and you alone have the ability to determine what constitutes a "bug". But I'm sure we'll all be swooning with joy when you release the patch where you have fixed all sorts of bugs.

Bh

hey Bhruic.

Firstly may I say thank you so VERY much for doing the grunt work on this baby!

Secondly. While Mr Annoyance put forward his view in a somewhat condescending manner. His point is a valid one.

As you yourself note there's a grey area. Where the 3.13 patch has altered gameplay for the worse then by all means please do fix it. A wish list of improvements, while fantastic, should perhaps be included in another download.

Why? Most people are inherently conservative. They don't like change, and won't unless it's from an authority figure (you know...laws....official patches...new girlfriend etc :D)

I'm running your patch fix on a PitBoss game and only one player has followed suit. SO we're getting big-time mismatches.

When I return from holidays I fully intend to change it to a Mod as already suggested earlier in this forum. I think I have a much better chance of getting others to implement these fixes in this manner.

However, again, if there are a bunch of 'grey area' improvements I think that again I won't have much luck getting people to do it.

Thoughts?

This discussion will likely lead no where since it is extremely difficult to come to a consensus with everyone on what constitutes a bug and what is not a bug but just an improvement.
Also keeping two versions updated and bugfree will likely increase workload immensely. I'd rather see Bhruic continue his great work than having to tear apart what is what...
OTOH I am not even sure what people here regard as non bugfix improvements - there are not too many things I can think of up to now...

Hi Ori. I wasn't speaking specifics. More of a question of approach.

Doh. Thanks for telling me.

I'm running the current version. So I guess the exec spam got created before that fix (started the game with Bhruic's 1st or 2nd patch version) and the AI just doesn't disband the exec's cos it can actualy afford having them.

While I am one of those who are always lambasting firaxis for the quality of the civilopedia, they did try to document this stuff for BtS. Sadly they did not fix the Civilopedia itself - not even for the new entries, but rather hid it under BtS Concepts. If you read carefully it tells you now:

Sadly but expectedly this text is not inline with the Patch change log:

So what is it - do you lose your bonus if you defy a resolution or not - the Civilopedia says not the changelog says yes :gripe: :)

Yeah, but with healing/production/commerce your still pointed in the direction of how to improve those things even if you don't know the exact way it's happening. The apostolic palace doesn't even hint that it does anything related to production.

Actually, it took me 20.23 secs to load the game from desktop, and another 30 secs to open the Civilopedia and go to the 'Beyond the Sword Concepts' section. There is an entry there for U.N. and Apostolic Palace. Within this section it states the quote about bonuses that Ori provided above.

A little further reading down, under 'Resolutions', explains that all production bonuses due to religious buildings are lost by a Civ that defies a resolution.

Yay for reading. :scan:

 I have to admit I just read the text from the xml file - which has the plus to be able to copy and paste text - but is not necessarily easy to read, so I missed that (I just thought since they started talking about the UN just below this that this was it for the AP ;). Its ok to do so, of course it would still be better if it would be in the entry for the Apostolic Palace - since most people look there rather than the concepts page - but as I said they did make an effort for BtS to update the Civilopedia and keep it updated, I would have preferred them to update the pedia itself and not just put all updates into the BtS section - but you cannot have everything :)

I really don't get this discussion about balance fixes. It's not like Bhruic put dozens of them in there. In fact, I would say that everything he changed so far definitely should be classified a bug, not a balance fix.

On the bright side, I guess that such a discussion can only crop up when all the bad bugs are gone, so this speaks for the state of the game/Bhruics patch.

yeah I see no need for philosophical ponderings about what constitutes a bug and what doesn't... if you've played some civ you generally know what to expect from the game and I would think a fix would be fairly black and white

Notice how in this game, the city "Delft" is not assigning the correct tiles by default. It should be trying to grow this city by working some of the sea (financial+lighthouse+dyke) tiles, which you get if you emphasize food.

Instead of that its working hills, and hiring specialists.

It should work the sea tiles till it grows, as the sea tiles can feed themselves, and then maybe hire the specialists when its run out of tiles. Passing up working those 2/1/3 tiles is terrible.

This is running with 1.09.

Here is the savegame...

Edit: Perhaps this is because I'm currently at my happy cap, but I'd prefer the city kept growing, as theres another happiness building yet to be built, plus theres the theatre+colosseum thingy too, as well as soon-to-be coming happiness resources from broadway, hollywood etc. Better for it to grow and present me with the problem of fixing the unhapiness than just to stagnate silently.

Vladesch, in this case if you want to force growth to your own detrminent, turn off auto-workers for that city. That's what those tiny little buttons are for on the bottom of the Civ city screen.

That was added in the 3.13. It's listed in the patch change list and since it's the only reference to the production bonus there were none when I got the expansion and read those sections. So although it may have taken you one minute to load the game and find it, you forgot to include the extra month it took for that to be written in.

Yay for reading indeed my good sir. Yay for reading indeed.

My apologies my good man, I assumed that since this was the 3.13 unofficial patch thread that we were indeed referring to the 3.13 version of the game... rather than vanilla BTS.

I am sorry for my slightly sardonic tone in my prior post but it just frustrates me when people complain about bugs in a bug list that have not been fully researched before posting. And, as such, it is why I am also thankful for Bhruic in taking due care and diligence in compiling his unofficial patch releases. If he has to stop and fix the fixes that were implemented to fix the bugs that didn't need fixed in the first place, then... oh, I've got a headache now. :crazyeye:

Carry on with the good work Bhruic, much appreciated!

Why is it that whenever somebody with skills, guts and willingness does an excelent job without pay to make life better (or gaming, in this case) for others, some people think they are entitled to the VOLUNTEER work of such person????

Bhuric is doing this for fun, and because he loves the game, obviously. He doesn't owe us one piece of S**t! He can do whatever he wants with his work.

I agree with some posters that I would prefer only bugs to be fixed, but I don't have the right to ask him. He is working on this in his free time.

Want to request something from him?

PAY HIM!

Keep up the good work, Bhuric! :goodjob: :goodjob: :goodjob:
