USA by stomach

You can leave salted butter sitting out on the counter so it remains nice and soft for an extended period of time. I don't think it is safe to do that with unsalted butter.

Plus, you know, salt is good for you! MOAR SALT ON EVERYTHING! Right? RIGHT?! ;)

Salted butter just tastes weird to me. Its just.. butter with salt. I buy them individually and combine when needed.

And I'm pretty sure you can leave regular butter out too. My mom used to do that all the time. She'd put it in a French water thingy.

It's just one of those culture shock things I'm still not over. Salted butter everywhere.

I like French Fries.

I think Oregon added mushrooms mostly because of mushroom season. Never tried it but apparently if you know what you're doing its possible to go wandering in the forests picking wild mushrooms and make thousands of dollars selling them to a outfit that exports them to Japan. Or you could just wander in the forest and find nothing, or get killed in weird mushroom picking turf wars.

I am having an unfortunate feeling that Discovery/National Geographic has a weirdass documental-reality-something show about that already. With a stupid name,

When I was a young boy growing up in Poland, learning how to pick mushrooms properly was a bit of a ritual that everyone seemed to go through. My parents were well versed in the art, and I still have fond memories of us all walking around in a forest, looking at mushrooms, them educating me about which ones were safe to eat, and which ones weren't. They knew all the names of all the different species we encountered, too. I thought that sort of thing was normal until I came to Canada and tried talking about mushrooms with people. Canadians don't really talk about mushrooms.. unless they're from the grocery store.

I might have to go to Oregon.

You should go. Let me know when you'll be there, might be there too, dunno. You should find mushroom talking people as well.

So... what, did this happen Statewide all across Oregon?

P.S. - Warpus, it seems you are correct. Non-salted butter can stay out on the counter just fine for a week or so. I thought it needed to be salted to safely do that, but that seems to not be the case.

Brownberry stuffing? Are they serious?

We love our stuffing, but I never heard of brownberry.

Re: salted butter: I was at the grocery store and grabbed some unsalted butter, not really paying much attention, or knowing the difference. Some big lady nearby makes some comment asking me if I'm sure I want to feed my kids UNSALTED butter.

I was so tempted to really chew her out and point out the American diet has too much salt in it to begin with.

I have been eyeing that part of the world for a while actually, I keep seeing beautiful pictures from my friend who lives .. somewhere there.. we were never really close friends, but he posts various hiking and mountain biking pictures from Oregon and surrounding places.. and it's for the most part pretty amazing looking stuff. Add the fungi factor and it's almost guaranteed to be a good trip.

Sweet!

I actually just cooked a whole bunch of butter chicken, during the creation of which I used a bunch of unsalted butter. Came out amazing. More people need to know about unsalted butter

What a strange thing to comment unnecessarily about.... I mean, stereotypically to quite some people around the world Americans are outspoken and poke their noses in other people's faces, but why the heck would you comment on that of all things?

I find it interesting how few of these are Vegan/Health oriented. Notably Oregon's "Mushroom Gravy". Since this is, presumably, a search for recipes not in then file, it makes me wonder what is already in the file.
