UU Earlier Than Other Civs?

Has anybody thought about having a UU appear earlier than the regular unit it replaces? For example, it is widely agreed that the F-15 is a pitiful UU. So, I have made the American UU the USMC. I also removed Amphibous tech, renamed Advanced Flight to Special Warfare, and made Paratroopers, Helicopters, and Marines available at Special Warfare.

I was thinking of making the USMC available at Rep Parts, but with the catch, they don't replace the infantry but instead replace the Marine which comes later at Special Warfare. Or maybe even have them as their own unit and upgrade to the Marine at Special Warfare. Initially, I had them as a Marine UU available simultaneously as the standard Marine, but I was trying to get them a little earlier in the tech tree as Special Warfare comes at the end of Era 3.

Well, there's something similar in stock game. Hoplites have the same stats as pikemen and Immortal have the same stats as Med. Inf.

So you're really changing what unit the USA's special unit is.

With over 3000 units in my mod, I changed a LOT of UUs for most of the Civs. For example, the American UU is now the famous Minuteman, the Militia, not the missile. I also had to think of some UUs for new civs I put in, like the Winged Hussar for Poland. Poland replaced Byzantine which made no sense at all for me with Rome and Greece already in the game. Or the Assyrian Siege Archer for Syria, which replaced the long-extinct Hittites in my mod.

You have some good points there, Ares. I would lean to evolving the Greeks into the Byzantines however. I am just not sure how to do that.

With the C3X mod this can be done without problems. Per example in CCM 3 for the Greek civ you have in era 1 the Greek city-states (leader Demosthenes), in era 2 the Byzantine Empire (leader Theodora), in era 3 Greece (leader Metaxas) and in era 4 Greece (leader Alexis Tsipras).

Quick and dirty: I just gave the Greeks Byzantine units for the Middle Ages. ;)
I like that idea. Plus, that gives me a lot of additional Military Great Leaders for the Greeks. Once you are past the Macedonian period, Greek military leaders get a bit short. Pyrrhus does show up and Philip of Macedonia who was beaten by the Roman, but then things get a little slim.

This is the setting in the CCM mods since CCM1. ;)

With Flintlock´s C3X mod in CCM 3 the Greek civ and its leaders can have different names in the different eras. The graphics for that feature are in CCM since CCM1, but in CCM 3 the different names can appear even in the screens of the game.

Greece is not in the animation above, but you can see it in the not animated screenshots of CCM 3:
