v 26, and above ALL Bugs/Crashes reporting thread

The problem side of the equation seems mostly to be income though, which suggests it might not be building income providing buildings, or maintenance reducing ones enough (I can't really tell very easily from the logs)

the main thing they were building was units. units, units, units. I don't know a better way to explain it. the income was severely negative, causing unit strikes and mass disbanding... so they produced replacement units, which again caused the economy to implode and those units to disband. so they produced replacement units again and again, ad nauseam.

I never checked in the cities to see what was constructed... will do so on this current automated campaign. here's a few savefiles from the brazil one. http://www.filedropper.com/single

I'm confused - I opened one of those games (from the middle of the sequence) and we seem to be the Sioux with no Brazil in sight - is this the same game?

regarding buildings, for some reason 'lesser research' is being used rather than the choice of multiple monastaries and school of scribes... other than that, there aren't any glaring absences of buildings. most things are being built, including the buildings with negative effects for constructing rogues or whatnot.

ah crap I have no idea. they're all just with my user name not the country being played. sorry >.>

V26 Vanilla
Spartacus make the sound of a ... I think it's a ship, or the sound of lot of ship, not sure. I think it's the sound of lot of Workboat building together something liek a tunnel...
But not the normal and unit sound.

I destroy it a put another one with Debug mode another Spartacus -> Same thing
I relod game -> Ok for 5-6 turn, but same bad oud effect after...

It's really annoyins, mainly because I hate this sound... And Spartacus is a very powerful hero (even with the 9 power only)

Ok will look into this, and i agree, i think he's one of the BEST Heroes available.:)

EDIT: Is it when he is being built, or fighting??

Are they getting this message and then getting to retrain or are they simply getting the message and not being given the opportunity to select a new promotion?

I am getting the message, without the opportunity to retrain. The bug is the message; the units are not eligible for a new promotion.

Here is a save game that can demonstrate the situation. Near Bourges, which is in northern Canada (this is the GEM map), there is a stack of 3 Longbowmen. Upgrade them (it's the Longbowmen that can upgrade to Arquebusier, and the Crossbowmen that have to wait until Musketmen) to Arquebusier. You will get a "lost Honour" message for each Longbowmen, but there is no opportunity to promote them, which there should not be anyway. The units are losing a free promotion from a building. No XP was spent to gain the promotion, so, properly, the units aren't eligible for any new promotions. I think you need to make your messaging code sync up properly with whether or not the unit is really eligible for a new promotion when it loses an old promotion.

I'm still having the issue with the Globaldefines being too long on the latest SVN.

Sorry, how long should they be? Give me a number. I cut my variables down to 31 characters. I thought we had gotten rid of such restrictions when we got rid of COBOL.:mischief:

Koshling said they should be 31 characters at max, otherwise there will be a buffer overflow and that will corrupt the data. I can't seem to find the define in question, but unless this bug did something to my main civ install it isn't fixed yet, as I did a clean Export of 3877 and it had the same errors as before. I'm assuming it's the same problem, although I could always check in a Debug to be sure.

I have mine at 31 characters but there are some old(?) one there that aren't mine and are longer
FREE_TRADE_AGREEMENT_ESPIONAGE_MISSION_COST_MODIFIER (52 chars)
MINIMUM_PLAYERS_WITH_TECH_FOR_AUTO_CORPORATION_FOUNDING (55 chars)

I upped it to 99 anyway in the latest SVN. Whatevr ls612 has now must be a different problem.

You're seeing it choose lesser research in a city that CAN build school of scribes and monasteries? If so please post the save with instructions as to which city and I'll look into why it doesn't want to build them. In the cas of school of scribes it may just be that it feels the gold penalties outweigh the research ( depending on modifiers the gold may be amplified more than the search or visa versatile for any given city). If it can build monsatries and isn't though, that's slightly odder and definitely something worth looking at...

I found this mod while browsing the forum, and it looked absolutely amazing, but unfortunately I can't seem to get it to work. It won't even let me open the mod, I have the newest patch (Civ version 319) and all of the necessary expansions (I have the complete edition), other then that and reinstalling the whole game, I haven't really done much, any help?

Did you look at how to download it and put it in the mod folder the right way. If you are not sure i would suggest looking at the many how do i download and install threads

I put it in the mod folder for beyond the sword, and I'm assuming that's wrong, right? lol

Yeah, I just needed to zero in on where the problem was. Its just a message issue so its not quite so bad. But I thought that shouldn't be taking place the way I had it so I'll have to look at the code and make an easily done tweak this weekend. I was more concerned if the units had actually been given the retrain.

This was an issue that came up in response to the complaint that there had been no message on retraining at all so is a more recent design and while I'm surprised its giving us that problem, I'm happy to fix it and glad you brought it up. As a 'fix' to another issue it went in with little pretesting.

Makes me wonder though... Would you prefer it if you still get a message, that differs from that one, letting you know when your unit has lost a promo and don't get to retrain? Or do you think that would be unnecessary to notify the player of?

here we go, this save is a different start (arabia) from the same svn 3876. automating so far has been pretty much OK until the last 150 turns or so, when it has (seemingly) overproduced units once more, to the point of running science at zero constantly and still having negative GPT and units being on strike and disbanding, only to be rebuilt and disbanded once more. haven't checked the buildings yet.
