v1.16f: Issues? Bugs? This is the thread

Disappearing relationship lines in Diplo screen

I had this problem too but found out that it only occured when I would get a pop up notification from MSN messenger. Now I dissable MSN mess. before I play. Since then I have logged 16 (8,4,4) hours of game time with no problems.

Gmon:scan:

When playing a new game....select huge world. If you press the all random button nothing happens. It used to select all of the non-player slots as random, now you have to manually do this.

this is not a bug, everything seems to work fine for me post patch. but i do feel that you guys should reconsider the whole plant a forest chop it down thing. surely its better to farm plantations than it is to cut down old growth forests:rolleyes: at least thats what they keep telling us;) seriously though if someone wants to invest their workers in this manner then i say good luck to them, as i understand it you couldn't rush wonders this way pre patch anyway so whats the harm. if you felt it was an exploit you could have lowered the sheild return or made it longer to plant and harvest. i dont see the point of removing a tactic that is used in the real world. anyway thats my two cents (in aussie dollars thats even less :D ) keep up the good work re patches and tell sid i forgive him for making me fail uni (that essay could never compete with a night of civ:goodjob: )

I'm running Win2K SP1, PIII 500, 256 MB. CivIII v1.16f, Direct X 8.1 latest ATI Radeon 7500 drivers all downloaded today.

In a game begun with the unpatched CivIII I cannot upgrade my naval units, Galeons to Transport (OOPS Galeons DO upgrade), Frigate to Destroyer, Iron Clad to Submarine.

In the attached photo please note the Oil resource, the Destroyer icon in the queue selection items, the Barracks and the only options of Fortify - Disband on the Frigate in the city square. For what it's worth there is a Harbor in this city too. Looking into the civ3mod.bic I note that both Frigate and Galeon are upgradeable. The Civilopedia also notes their upgradeability.

Is this a bug?

Whenever I play a game after the patch the game will crash once I get to the industrial age. Not only this but I cannot uninstall the game any longer. It absolutely will not let me do it. I have clicked uninstall about 50 times. It rushes through the process and the game is still on my hard drive afterwards. The inability to uninstall is something I just found out while trying to revert to v. 1.07 so that I could actually play the game.

UPDATE: The game also crashes if I try to load a game in which I have already passed the industrial age.

Jeff,

I was playing an Egyptian Democracy at the Monarch level, and below Government, I changed "Normalcy" to "War-time" to engage in a military build-up.

I was surprised to find out that I could not get out of "War-Time" mode by selecting that button, it was dead. I got out of war time by getting into a small skirmish with the Russians, taking one city, and then asking for a Peace Treaty. Ending the war got me out, and I haven't tried it again.

I don't have MSN Messenger on my machine at all. Still have the diplo bug.. And have ALWAYS had the crashing modified games bug... which is the worstof the bunch for me as I want to modify the units... :(

Oh and Jeff, the "title boxes drawing on advisor screens for resolutions higher than 1024x768" bug happens to me AT 1024x768.

As mentioned before, the relationship lines in the foreign advisor screen disappear. They are always there when i restart the game but vanish after a few turns (i haven't figured a trigger for it yet).

Also disappearing are the locator lines in the military advisor screen. When you roll your cursor over a unit, lines on the map normally show where that unit is positioned, but have disappeared along with the above relationship lines. Seems to be related since i either have them both or neither.

I honestly don't know what kind of graphic card i have, sorry. But: p2 400Mhz, 356 Mb ram, windows 98.

I had this problem with the original version of Civ III straight out of the box. It turned out that I just needed to install the alternate drivers for my ATI graphics card, and that solved the problem.

Then, when I installed the 'morning' version of the patch, the disappearing lines problem (on both the foreign advisor and science advisor) came back.

However, since I installed the 'good' version of the patch, all has been well.

So if you are having problems, try these two things:

1. Make sure you have the correct version of the patch installed.
2. Update all of your graphics drivers.

I am running a laptop: amd-k6 400mhz, 128 mb ram, ATI Rage LT Pro AGP 2x graphics card

PS Banana: your graphics card should be listed under "System Information", or even "Display Properties" in the control panel

I just started playing recently, so I never played w/o the patch really. I installed the first version that was released, and I had that problem where you sometimes lose the lines on the foreign advisor screen. So I looked around and saw that there was a new version with a different .exe, and installed that today.

Now, anytime after leaving an advisor screen, I get these black hollow boxes that sort of mirror the city names on the main map. Very annoying, only way to clear that I have found is to quit out. Also, I had a crash, and 4 of the 5 autosaves were corrupt. That had never happened before.

I am running win98 on a geforce 3 ti500 with 21.83 drivers.

I don't think this is necessarily a bug, I believe I read this in either the civilopedia or the manual. Once you mobilize for war, you can only get out by ending a war, regardless of whether you are in one or not. Thus you may have to start a new war and then end it. It kind of makes sense.

I had to rush a game through to verify that in fact the Theory of Evolution is still not working correctly. It's actually very easy to replicate. Just reearch every technology, leaving no optionals. When you get to where you can actually build TOE, your line of techs will dwindle until you can only discover one at a time. The wonder will be built and nothing will happen. *sigh* It would have been nice to have verification that this was not fixed in the patch. I hope it gets noticed now since it is described in this thread.

Thanks.

I noticed the following problems (on Win 98, using keepres=1 to get 1200x1024 resolution).

- Since the second 1.16f patch, the outlines of city name boxes and settler 'here will be your city' outlines are drawn offset to where they should be - this only started after being in a (new) game for several turns.

- In 1.16f the game occasionaly no longer proceeds to the next unit but seems to be 'stuck' on a unit. Saving and reloading helps for a while, but the problem tends to return. This happened with a game a created with the first 1.16f patch and loaded in the second, but it also happend with a new game. This problem seems to be related to giving orders to a unit so it won't need to be activated next turn, such as fortifying or disbanding.

- the score list shows as a 1024x768 screen in the upper left corner; the boundary to the right and bottom sides are filled with units in their most recent locations drawn on a black background.

In general, the stability in the order 1.07, first 1.16f, second 1.16f seems to decrease instead of increase...

One little request: please never again release two different patches with one name. The two 1.16f versions are different as far as bug behaviour goes, so I guess bug reports are now rather messy...

after playing for an hour last night ,i noticed several things:

-i really dont know if its a bug or not,but if i do a "pillage" action (tried that with a modern tank and mech inf unit)
they do an attack animation (only in one direction-west, or is it a north west,i just dont remember.)
is it meant to do that animation??or is it a bug?

-another bug(?)- suddenly, i got enemy units from no where all around my territory, and i found out that the show enemy/friends animation was turned off, so apparently i didn't saw them coming. got into preference screen and turned all animations on (as i recall they were all on since the beginning ),got back in the game but animation for friends/enemy moves was still off,i had to fight with that option several times, going in and out of the pref screen, until he finely excepted and stayed with my preference choice..

-there is a slight delay in units sounds.the effect activates after the unit has already moved, or in the middle of moving.

few positive things-:b:
-city disorder pop up-thanx a lot, it really helps!
- getting much more popup windows after the patch (AI trade request, empire status according to other civilizations) and the overall feeling is that the AI is more involved and interact then before.
-i really cant put my finger on it but is there a change in some graphics??like trees or something,or is it just me needing a good sleep, and a pair of glasses??,i realy think that there is a slight graphic improvement then before.
--gray transparent line under the doted border color line-its really makes them strong looking and easy to see on various land types, good improvement.

and a little question here-can i modify or change the shadow under the pop numbers? (i asked and mentioned that before in several threads, but haven't got any answer. its really really REALLY the thing that upset me the most after the patch, maybe because i do graphics for a living and i am more aware of graphic glitch).

oh man, i really love this game! :)

This only happens some of the time.

I will be trying to make a deal to trade with an AI civ and will ask them what they will offer me for something. They will make an offer. I will then try to increase the per turn amount that they are offering. My advisor says, "They would never accept such a deal". When I then change the per turn amount back to what they originally offered, my advisor still says, "They would never accept such a deal". (Nor will the AI civ accept the deal at this point.) If I then clear their side of the offer and ask them again what they would offer me for the item they will offer me the original terms and I can accept the deal.

Two big problems with the patch. That's all I've found since the first one is...

1. After installing the patch the game won't run. I get a message box saying "the game CD cannot be found. Put the CD in, press OK and start the application". The CD is in the drive that the game was installed on. Also tried putting the CD in the other drive (CD-RW), just in case. No luck.

2. Could not uninstall the game. Used the start menu shortcut for uninstall and the add/remove programs uninstall. No matter how many times I did either, nothing was uninstalled. I ended up deleting files manually and reinstalling.

I'm functional again in pre-patch, fresh install version but not very happy about it.

Jeff, are there any registry entries hanging out because of the failed uninstalls? I need to clean those up if so.

Hi Jeff,

This unfortunate one happens to show at higher resolutions...
I tried both 1024 and 1280.
So what seems to happen in here, is, that those frames are drawn, but not redrawn again (not in a right place anyway).
Maybe you already were aware of this, but I was just to make it sure, once and for all.

I'm using ATI radeon 64DDRVivo and WIN98.
(Civilization 3, ver.1.16f second edition).

Thanks.

It sounds like some of these problems are the 'old' v1.16f exe which was an old version. To check which version you've got, right-click on the civilization3.exe and select properties. If the modified date lists November 28th, it's the old one. If it reads December 7th, it's the correct one.

The Civ3 reg entries are under hkey_local_machine/software/Infogrames Interactive. Fry that entry and the sub-keys will wipe it out.
