Vale, Peter Ustinov 1921-2004

A great actor indeed, and interesting as a person too. Saw a great interview with him a couple of years ago on TV. I'll always remember him as Hercule Poirot.

I'll certainly miss him. He always managed to put a lot of vitality into everything he did.

Yes, indeed. Michael Parkinson the famous interviewer on TV rated him the best interviewee he ever had on his show. One can imagine how the audience would be transfixed by his narrative charm and his clever mimicry eg of Ronald Reagan complete with the shaking head.

It is always a great pleasure to read or watch any of his works. There really doesn't seem to be anyone around of his calibre anymore :(

Sir Peter Ustinov was the Chancellor of Durham University. I meet him during my graduation ceremony at Durham Cathedral in June 2002. He shook my hand and congratulated me, he went on to give a highly entertaining speach which helped to bring to life a particularly dull occasion during which he fell asleep on several occasions :D

His death is a sad event, but one at the end of a long and productive life that he appeared to have enjoyed greatly.

Rest in peace :(
