Ok i am fairly ticked about this right now. I was at war with HC mainly because they guy decided to declare on me with no justification. After the 10 turns or whatever I let that go back to peace so I could mass and army and make him regret declaring.

And I did. I took most of his original cities including his capital which had the pyramids. I also took his holy city(jewish). He was down to 5 cities with the only noteable one being a 13 population city. Then the news comes up that he has became a Vass. State of Peter to which I say WTH! Peter wasn't even involved in the war and he wouldn't capitulate with me. So I go through all this hard work to make him surrender and then he just goes and offers himself to peter. There's just something wrong with that. Worst of all, I can't just crush him into the ground because i've been at war so long my economy is in the crapper and going up against 1.5 civs would seriously hurt me.

What I don't get is why he wouldn't capitulate with me yet he'll just go and offer himself to peter who wasn't even involved.

You are mad because the AI made a good strategic move?

Also, the reason he would rather be a voluntary vassal of Peter than a capitulated vassal of you is:
1) The voluntary vassalage can be broken after 10 turns by the vassal, the capitulation is semi-permanent unless one of those 3 conditions breaks the agreement.
2) He probably likes Peter more than you since you have been destroying his empire.

hahaha, "with no justification." hahahhaha, have the UN sanction them! I love these threads.

i dont like the vasssal state as much as i thought i would

i was beating the heel out of ragnar and he had one city left and he still refused to capulate

it has happend with others IE: Victoria

let me guess, she is english of course she is not capulating to my ass

As far as doing nothing to them I honestly hadn't. My guess is my power ranking was low enough so they decided to attack though that changed fast when i actually started making units.

And yes it is the smart move but I though the whole point of VS was to stop you from having to kill all their cities. I took probably half their population and they STILL wouldn't. And the fact that someone who wasn't involved suddenly got involved is really annoying.

Also when peter did get involved he basically demanded i pay him to not attack me and end the war. He wanted paper gold and a cease fire for some crap tech and gold.

Capitulating to vassalage is probably similar to surrendering technologies; if they have nothing left to lose, they won't do it.

I think it's more realistic. All over the world at all times, country's form alliances with their enemy's just to keep themselves alive or win the war or whatever goal they want to reach. When faced destruction, why not hide in the shadow of a powerful ally or less dangerous foe?

If you have to take it in the ass from someone, take it from the guy who didn't burn your villages.
