Version 2.4 feedback

Interface for the game is completely missing when I start a new game. Can't access the Civilopedia either, it won't open.

I've installed the game through Steam and I've never had a previous version of RoM.

The latest version 2.4, with patch has worked at avoiding all the CTDs that have plagued the earlier versions. Congragulations on a great job - Have played post victory to check out all the new techs and military - The arc shielding looks really super!

As an odd note to my last post, I just got Rise of Mankind 1 to work. :(

I'm not exactly sure what's made the interface in RoM2 not be there. I've seen this before, but I've yet to figure out what it could mean, especially when I haven't tampered with anything and put it in the correct folder.

I just finished finals and am playing RoM for the first time. I have unmodded BtS 3.17 and am running RoM 2.5 beta version. I am getting a bug with French Workers. Some time around 3000 BC they lose the ability to make roads. The tech is still researched. Cultural boarder makes no difference and reloading does not help. The button is still there but is greyed out. This affects all of my workers on the map, not just one and obviously I am trying to place roads on virgin tiles (no road already down).

When I start the game,following components on/of,four of them are RED...StartsAsMinors,Stack Attack,Battle Effect,Archer Bombard.Is something wrong?

Be aware that it costs gold to build roads and if you run out of gold, you can't built 'em! That was a shock at first, but I like the challenge. :)

Those are disabled by default for different reasons:

StartAsMinors can be enabled if you start custom game, this game option means that all civs start as minors and there will be war between them all until your civ grows to full civ status

Stack Attack is disabled because it has been a cause for some problems (bugs, random crashes) and it might not be safe to use this option. You can enable it in file GameDefinesAlt.xml in folder 'Rise of Mankind\Assets\XML'.

Battle Effects aren't working properly in v2.4 but they are been fixed for v2.5. They are still disabled by default as these effects can be graphically heavy. If you got high end computer and want to try this feature, you can enable it the same way as Stack Attack.

Archer Bombard is disabled by default because I don't think archers should be able to bombard other squares (you can't shoot arrows that far) and archers already got first strike abilities that should represent their ability to fire arrow volleys. Generally this mod component is too powerful when turned on. If you want to try it, enable it the same way as Stack Attack.

Playing 2.3 Eurasia map in 2.4 - all archer combat causes one turn of fallout.
This happens because Battle Effects mod component isn't working correctly in v2.4. Turn that component off from GameDefinesAlt.xml (value 0), though I think this will work only for new games. Battle Effects component has been fixed in v2.5

What Official version of BtS are you running. RoM2 requires the Official 3.17 patch be installed for vanilla BtS.

RoM1 only needed version 3.13.

This will almost always cause a missing interface by not being patched to the correct BtS version.

JosEPh :)

Ps. Just saw your previous post about getting the game thru Steam. You will need to patch thru Steam I believe and even then not sure if you will succeed. Good Luck

scout mech shows a bombardment icon when enermy is in adjacent square, but when you acutally use the function it inflicts 0% damage. the fuction works for sentinel, though. has this been reported already?

Mechs have been changed/fixed for 2.6 so they should do better damage when bombarding.

Have installed RoM 2.51 on a machine using Windows Vista. When attempting to launch the mod I get a number of XML error messages indicating "info class incorrect." Is there a bug or have I possibly incorrectly installed the mod. (RoM 2.2 -- under a different name -- plays fine on this machine.)

Sounds like some files weren't unpacked correctly from the zip file. Try installing the mod again.

Tried unpacking the 2.51 mod again on two different Windows Vista machines using 7-Zip freeware. The mod unpacks the contents with no problem to the desktop location on either machine, but when I unpack to the BtS Mods subfolder, 7-Zip processes the contents only to report, upon completion, a large number of error messages of the following type: "can not open output file C:\[pathname]." Is it me or the extraction program that's at fault here???
I could of course easily move the unpacked mod from the desktop to the BtS mods subfolder, but if I understand your instructions, some of the extracted contents belong elsewhere. Any chance you could just tell me where to put them? Or is there a better solution?

I believe the unpacking error in Vista has more to do with Vista being smarter than everyone than a 7 zip problem. It does the same with WinRar.

Have you tried running 7Zip "as Administrator"? You'd need to open 7Zip first, then drag/drop zipped files to it for extraction.

You can unpack the mod anywhere and then move the mod to correct folder. All mod files are inside Rise of Mankind folder.

Used to run RoM several months ago after the Sword 3.17 patch. I think it was RoM version 2.21 or so. Things used to work great but then I stopped playing Civ for a while. Just got back on, deleted the old mod and installed RoM 2.51 and now when I try to start a game it always crashes when it gets to Init Graphics.

My system is a bit dated (P4 3 GHz, 2 GRam, ATI Radeon 300) but I am able to run the normal Swords game in 1900 by 1200 mode (Huge, 24 civs) just fine and I was able to run the 2.21 version of RoM (Huge, 24+ civs) just fine as well. So what changed since then that makes it incompatible and is there anything I can do to make it work for me?

Oh, and I installed the 2.51+ pack. I also notice it sometimes gives a C++ runtime error instead of a InitGraphics error.
