Version 2.7 discussion

kk i know this doesn't belong here but i've been searching the forums and cant find a answer to my dilemma....when i can load bts and the mods i play clean no probs other then late game mafs, which i've learned to deal with, kinna like the beginning game better anyway, but most times bts wont start at all i sit here trying to start then restart puter then try again and this goes on for hours sometime, gets to the point where i just quitand dont even try to play for weeks

i have an hp laptop running vista 32, it is a 64 proc tho, nvidia 7150m graphix card and all my drivers are up to date.....everything is set to run as admin

if anyone knows the answer to this please respond

lol last night it started just fine first try and i played for hours on 2.7test2 but this morning it wont start at all...and like i said this is a laptop so it cant be "running" as i shutdown whenever not using system

in a related matter, to this forum anyways, zap on original bts it lets you choose which background and theme music you use, think you could add that back to options...lol i have bts set for the warlords theme cause that track is sweet and would like it on the mod too

What kind of error message does it show?

I can only speak for myself, but at one point my graphic card broke. There was a transition period where it sometimes could run and sometimes couldnt. The standard vga still worked but the 3d was broken. Does other DirectX 3D games work?

no error messages i click the icon, the box appears i give permission, the mouse spins then nothing happens

every other game i try works everytime just civ doesn't....just for reference i been up now for like 4 hrs and after several restarts and shutdowns i still have not gotten the game to run

omg bts finally started....now lets see if the saved game loads.....you know how when it loads a mod it restarts...well yeah not always here....but YAY it did thiss time...lol using my phone to type this so ignore typos....anyways got a game to play..yay

mmmm. vista

Could be a User Account Control or whatever its called, dont remember. Sometimes it blocks acces to write on disk (ini and logs) even thou you have administrator access. Try turning it off and see if that helps.
(Can be found in Control Panel/Security/Security Center/Other Security Settings/User Account Control)

You can edit your Civ IV short-cut to load up the mod you want directly, so that you don't need to load the game twice. I had a similar issue at one point, so I simply de-installed the lot and reinstalled, which seemed to fix the issue.

I have a suggestion. I have read people complaining about late game where everything takes only 1 turn to research, so I wont bother complaining about that.

In late game, there are so many new techs coming in so there are so many buildings and units to build. I have lots of cities late game and they complete buildings mostly in a couple of turns or 1 turn in my production cities. Every single turn I have to wait for my turn to come which is fine becuase thats just my computer, but then I have to scroll through things I wont ever build in that city. It takes forever and I just want to play the game, not select what I build.

I dont know if it is possible but if there was a way to organize things to build in sections that we can collapse/expand. For example, I wont ever bother building units in my research cities, so I would just collapse the unit section. Id have the building section and the wonder section, so I can skip the bulk of the list. A wonder section would be nice so it is harder to forget about building wonders.

1 last thing, you said you wanted to keep old religions from dominating the whole game. How about making new religions spread much quicker and slow down as time passes?

I would DEFINITELY love that feature. Especially, my strategy invlolves my capital city as army production city and the rest of cities for other stuff. I always hate seeing buildings that have to do with army development and production in other cities.

However, I intuit that this feature can't be made because that type of thing is very probably hardcded into BtS. We will see.

I agree that the build menus could be improved, but I have not seen anyone doing such. It should be possible in python.

Have you tried going into "examine city" there are still all the units and buildings, even some which would not appear on the menu. However it has a units, buildings or wonders section of the list. You can also queue stuff.

or try >>minimize popups<< in the options menu. That way you can wait until whenever you want to select what to build instead of having to go through all the cities in the beginning.
Building queues also help in late game, and you can actually save it with ctrl + # (1-9)
F.ex. whenever you capture a city you have <1> as basic buildings,
Whenever you want to build food buildings <2>
Whenever you want to build production buildings <3> etc etc.
If the city already has a building it will ofcourse skip it and move on to the next in line.

vincentz,

Turning of UAC solved a recent same turn crash I was having. I had started playing in 64-bit Windows 7 to avoid crashes I was having in Vista, but never shut off UAC as I had before.

I think it may have been the source of the problems I was having.

Thanks for the idea!

You might be better off reinstalling Civ4 outside of Program Files. That should bypass the UAC and you could leave it on (which is safer for the computer).

I'm not sure UAC actually do anything good. If I remember correctly then it would ask everytime I launched civ4, but when I put the 3.17 NOCD crack from gamecopyworld it wouldnt ask anymore. Some programs that was legitimate couldnt run while other half finished 3rd party software would run without any confirmation. Point being that if anyone constructing harmfull software (vira, spyware etc) then they would easely be able to overide UAC, rendering it useless (but anoying).

Correct me if I am wrong.

edit : btw, I always install games on a different partition than the OS

@ Zappara.

Currently running 2.7test2 in 1832 AD (Perfectworld2). Still no crashes :goodjob: with following options enabled : City Flipping after Conquest, Raging barbs, Aggressive AI, Permanent Alliances, New Random Seed, Require Complete Kills, Revolution, Barb Civ, Tech Diffusion, Dynamic Civ Names and last but not least Minor Civ. I also have the following mods installed : Secret Agents, Industry and Jungle Camp.

I love the work you done on the medival era, extending it, and I like the lenght of the research (4-8 turns in average, though some of the early ones I skipped can be researched on 1 turn now), the only problem is that I'm still in the medival era (1832) and so are all the AI's. I'm currently #1 scoring (having 870 points.) and most civs have 200 or less with only one having 800+. The last is not a big problem as I think I have to move from emperor to Deity.

I really liked the research tech rate at the ancient, classisism and medival era, but it seemed like there was room for more turns.
I know from experience that if I go slower than Epic the first and second era is WAY to slow for me.

So my question is : Is it possible to extend the turns at a given era? Since you made more techs in the medival era, it will actually overtake the years for renaicance and industrial eras. F.ex. make 1000AD to 1250AD from 20 years/turn to 10 years/turn (not sure its actual that way in game, just an example) thereby making the medival era longer in turns. I think it would work out better than cutting the research amount on every tech in medival times, as it seems very balanced now.

Since I didnt see any other threads about this, maybe its just the game that I'm playing now that has this syndrome. Keep in mind that I'm not talking from experience (this is the first time I got to 1830 in 2.7test2) and that I have a LOT of gameoptions on which, one way or another, could have slowed down global research. (minor civs, raging barbs, revolution etc)

I hope you understand my point, as sometimes I can be so cryptic that 2 days later I cannot understand myself.

I know this isn't an official version but I would like to see some release notes so that I can check if problems I am about to report are fixed or not.

Port problems, that you can build the most advanced structure of your technology without building prerequisite buildings. Same for customs house.

Ziggrat can be built without knowing code of laws. Perhaps same with courthouse but I am not sure.

Just want to say something about OOS.
We have a game with 3 human + 9 IA.
Standar map
Archipelagos
Minor
Barbarian civ on
over 16 civ total so far ( some has been destroy ofcourse allso)
BUT not one OOS so far we are in 1365 AD.

Is this in 2.7test2 Flay? If so I'm very encouraged! :goodjob:

You are correct about the Ziggrat as it does not need code of laws like the courthouse does. I can't remember what the Ziggrat requires off the top of my head though.

P.S. Zappara probably all ready knows this but the revdcm team is planing an update for 3.19 before the weakend.

Hey Zappara

I read that you changed the starting units for barbs civs becoming minor civs and minors becoming full civs. Could you upload those files. Right now the AI seems "broken" and I think it is primarily because of massive spawning of barb civs and the unit overflow they get when developing. I tried to run a testgame (AI controlled) on a huge rombalanced map, epic speed, and the result was quite shocking.
After 400 turns (AD 1725) the most advanced unit was a light swordsman and all civs was still in classical era.
Tonight I will try to run another AI controlled testgame with all options off to see if that helps.

edit : Just did a small AI-controlled testrun on RoMTerra normal size/medium speed but this time without any options on. Almost same result. By 1850 there wasnt any caravels only triremes. All AI were still in medival era, biggest of them (there were 2 superpowers) was researching architecture. So it wasnt because of barbciv or start as minor. Looks like the AI needs a serious boost, or the classical and medival era needs more turns (Im definately for the last, maybe a combination of the two.)
