Version 2.x bug reports

Hi there!

Loving your mod, but I seem to regularly crash. When I put on logging it hold on a lot longer as if it was on to me ;) but in the end the result was the same.

XP, bts 3.17, Rom 2.62, patch 2.63
Didn't see anything odd in your log files so no solution to this problem at this time. I'll hope it won't occur in v2.7 (when it's ready) as it has updates to most components.

Out of all my attempts to play RoM 2.62, most of the time I CTD. However, I have also been able to complete a couple entire games from start to finish. I don't believe it's a problem with my free memory since I seem to have plenty to spare when it crashes, however I am by no means an expert. I am attaching my log files and the last auto-save before the latest crash.

I'm running XP Home, 1.83 Mhz, 1024 MB memory.

By the way, except for the crashes, I absolutely love this mod. If I had to go back to regular old BTS, I don't think I could.
Same thing in this case, I didn't see anything wrong with the log files. I grabbed the save and will test it. However it might a bug that has been already fixed for the next version as many of the mod components have been updated already from v2.62.

I say Launch ant after a few seconds it crashes.
I have WinXP 2GB. Is that the reason?
Logs added as requested.
Thanks for any help!

It seems to happen 2 out of 3 times (so far) when I go to global world view. But as long as I keep my view normal I didnt crash so Ill stick to that for now :D

Just wanted to keep you up to date.

Which version of RoM and addons are you using?

Looks at logs - there appears to be a problem with the map script you are using "RoM_Custom_Continents" again the version of RoM would help because it may have been fixed in another version. Also what size world were you creating as sometimes this has influence.

In the mean time all I can suggest is using a different map script until someone can identify and fix the problem.

I tried several map scipts, and yes, I got it running once with the size "Tiny".
I downloaded and installed RiseOfMankind2.62Megapack.rar .
I even uninstalled BTS and made a clean reinstall and update.
I tried to download ROM 2.63 - but the link is dead. All you get there is a suspicious .exe which doesn't have the declared size.
What map script works for you?

Megapack has problems on XP machines - I can't use it at all. I usually play huge "RoM - Tectonics" maps. Anything bigger does not work. Have you tries RoM 2.63 WoC lite? It is RoM 2.63 with the WoC (World of Civilization) Lite version. I had that working OK on my XP machine. Lately I have been playing 2.7Test1 the beta for the next release very playable but obviously not complete.

and definitely thanks for the hint to use RoM-WoC Lite. I just started the download but it might be some time till I get to test it.
best!
:)

Quick test shows: it works for huge maps!
:D

I am also getting the same turn crashes. It is always a late game thing and once it happens it keeps happening on the exact same turn despite reloading a save of even 5-10 turns back. Interestingly it does not always happen at the same time during the turn. Sometimes its right after I hit the end turn button and sometimes it is after some of the AI's have had their turn. The only solution I have found is to open the world editor and delete a couple one city civs. That often fixes it for 30-50 turns.

In my last game they started happening after Russia, the most powerful civ at the time collapsed and new civs were frequently born*.

I am wondering, does anyone know the dll limit for civs? My thought is maybe that Revolutions is creating too many civs and that is causing the crash. I noticed in the ini that you can set the max number of civs for it to create and currently its set at -1 which is the dll limit. I was thinking of changing it but I don't know what would be a good number to use...

Running 2.63 in Windows 7 with 4gb of ram, a geforce 8800gt video card and a athlon x2 6000 cpu. It happens in Vista too, but it seems to take longer in Windows 7, but I cannot say for sure since I was using 2.63 WoC in Vista and cann't get that version to work in Windows 7.

Best mod for Civ4 hands down by the way!

* It was actually a pretty cool game by the way. It was late in the modern era and I had built a few carrier/invasion groups which I had stationed around the world with a focus on Russia as they were the biggest threat. They declared war on me, invading my continent with 25ish units. Their capital was near the coast so I moved one of my carrier groups to their shore and landed some troops. They were also fighting a war on their continent so their military was engaged a good distance away. My fighters weakened their defenses and I was able sack Moscow. I also nuked a few of their largest cities.

After that Russia's instability shot up and they started having rebellions. We made peace and I watched as their empire fractured as rebels took control of various cities. Eventually Cathrine was replaced by Stalin as their whole government collapsed. Now maybe 150 years later they have two cities where at one point they had around 40 and their continent has 4 times as many civs as before. Before the commies took over they were close to crushing one of their neighbors(who I had supplied with arms), now this civ is the third most powerful in the game.

One of the things I missed from earlier civ games was that empires could collapse into competing factions. Now its back and better than before!

When you have that error is it a gamecore.dll error?

I usually get it around 1400 or 1500. My sollution was to let the AI take my turn (ctrl+shift+m)
It lets me continue the game (thou sometimes I have to do it multible times, and the AI dosnt always make the best decisions. They like to build barracks and use slavery hurries.) The best way to counter that, is to make a multible build que.

If its a MAF (memory allocation error) and vista, (dont know for w7) then there is a sollution that makes vista use more than 2GB ram for a single application. That did wonders for me. Just search the forum for : vista fix maf error.

What happens is that the screen grays out and then I get a popup that says Sid Meier's.... has stopped working.

It then searches for solutions and fails to find them. At that point my only option is to hit close program.

How would I find out what flavor of error it is?

Edit: I have made the changes to get vista to address more ram. As far as I could tell it had no affect on the crashes.

Sorry meant to say I've tried ctrl+shift+m as well.

Where might I find the error logs?

Thanks for the help!

Logs are usually found in .../My games/Beyond the Sword/Logs folder. Posting the logs and a save game may help identify the problem. Also were you using any RoM addons?

I've attached the logs and the save. I just loaded the save and hit next turn and got the same crash as before. I was not using any addons. Just ROM 2.63 with revolutions and barbiarianciv enabled.

I would certainly appreciate any help that you can provide.

Hope it makes sense to someone, coz im lost.

Is there a reason why sulphur would never appear in any of my games?

I am using the custom scenario option, the 18civ earth map?

Sulphur never appears as resource when I research gunpowder and thus cannot make ammunition, etc????

erik
I am having this problem too- version 2.63 WoC Lite. I am about to open up world builder and give everyone 1 source.

2.7Test2 something wrong as I keep getting to rebuild my river ports and harbours. Other than that not one CTD :goodjob:

Sounds like the old problem pre 2.5 had. I can't remember if it was tied to Events though.

Zappara said that REVDCM2.0 had some bugs in Events.
