First, I had trouble on my desktop with blinky cursors, choppy movement, invisible units, poor animation even after V1.52 patch. Believing my 384 Mb of ram was inadequate, I upgraded to 1 Gig.
In the meantime I loaded it onto my laptop, with 496 Mb Ram where it worked pretty well after V1.52 patch. When loading, it informs me that the system is "below recommended specifications" and warns of performance issues, but it runs pretty smooth.
However, now, back on the desktop, even with the additional RAM it's still running choppy (and this is on standard maps w/ default #'s of AI, albeit in the late 1800's era with most of map revealed but not active.), but the wonder movies look pretty good.
Its pretty frustrating given that the laptop runs this game so much better with less than half the RAM and an un-upgraded factory video card.
Any ideas or advice would be hugely appreciated. I've attached my DxDiag.
