I can just hear the civ3 people saying "Ha ha, noob civ4er". But I just got a VP win as Byzantium (my best, only, highest-score, and most fun win) and I have no clue why I won. I had (apparently) 50010 VPs. The max is 50000. Wth? :crazyeye: Plus I was 4% away from domination!:cry:

So what is this Victory Point, and how did I get 10 extra??

Victory points are tiles that you need to hold. Every turn you hold it, you get points for it.

Generally, the starting tile has a VP on it when you start with this option. The more you control, the more points you get per turn. So if you go and get another VP tile from the AI, you get 2x points for that turn. And when you reach the threshold, you win.

You can turn off VP as a victory condition, when you setup the game. You tend to not see that played very often.

Thanks. Are the small white dots on grasslands VPs?

No, they are not. Those are bonus grassland, meaning it has two food (as normal) and one shield. As I recall, the VP marker is kind of a smaller Washington Monument type looking thing.

We don't make fun of returning Civ4 players, we say Wecome back! Sit down a spell and visit with us.

Basically 50000 was the amount needed to win. You could set it to 5000, 100000, anything you want. You can also get Victory Points by conquering other civs, killing your enemies, territory and advances.
I had a game once in which I had the final two enemy civs down to 1 city. I forgot about my VP, so I captured one, eliminating the civ. That gave me a VP win, one turn off a conquest.
