Space Race. Every game that I play that has technology in it, I try to win by having superior technology. Sometimes this means I still have to conquer the world with my superior technology, but Space Race allows me to go for the tech and not have to fight too much either.

I'm pretty new, but I'd probably say space race too. It's fun to install the parts and do all that research. Culture I haven't tried, but don't think that's my kinda cake. Domination/conquest is too much hazzle. Even with overwhelming force it takes a long time to build up enough real estate, especially on big-ish maps.

You need to include space race. Or did you exclude it as you assumed it was the most popular? I suppose that is correct combined with diplomatic.

Same here. On a large map, domination or conquest takes a lot of time. With a tech lead the game is easier and space is geared to technology.

Some games on regular maps I'll vassalize a couple of Civs and then build the U.N. and bully my way to diplomatic.

Conquest and Domination -I play Huge or Large maps on Marathon and I don't mind taking my time.

I like variety, so I get all the types of victories in a relatively equal number of games, except time victory, which I turned off long ago. When I go for a diplomatic victory, it is the real thing via the UN, not a modified military victory.

Why did you combine Conquest and Domination? I like conquests way better than domination victories.

Prince and below: usually conquest or domination, unless I am playing a HoF gauntlet

Monarch: anything really

Emperor+: usually culture, space or diplo

Honest diplo (i.e. not diplomination). Most of my immortal victories are from chain capping conquest or domination. Generally when I go to war I don't stop until everyone is dead although sometimes it ends in a premature diplo victory.

However one of my favorite games was one with Hatty where I rexed hard to 14 cities and managed to stay out of trouble while the others were fighting. Even with 2 major religious blocks I managed to manipulate the diplo so that virtually everyone was friendly with me. I even managed to get Toku to friendly by joining a phony war with him. I'm quite proud of that game because I saw there was an opportunity to win diplo without going to war and I managed to pull it off.

Cultural to me feels too much like pressing end turn while you farm artists and religions and pray that no one goes wheoohrn on you after you turn of the slider.

Space is either a gimme if you are comfortably ahead or ends up being really micro intensive if you are actually in a race and you need to workshop over everything or spam corps. Either way in my mind it just drags to game on too long to be fun. I'd rather be nuking people instead.

I play for domination, anything else is a shortcut. Quite a few games end in diplomacy or late cultural victory though (e.g. entertainment wonders and artists fed by corporation food, rather than killing science at Liberalism).

Anything that is not Conquest or Domination takes too long.

What about diplomatic? Beeline theology, build tons of missionaries, give extravagant gifts, and boom. You win.

Smeagol hateses the religious techs... (except Mysticism for Stonehenge and Priesthood for the Oracle)

Smaller maps usually conquest/domination
Larger maps space race.
Diplo/Culture are both fun though.

I find it painstaking and tedious moving dozens of units around large maps so I generally prefer being the builder running a hybrid economy with a strong leaning towards specialists/pacificm/caste/rep/workshops/farms/.
Love pyramids and MoM :)

It's nice to get in the position of causing AI religious wars by spreading one religion to two allies and a different religion to another, then sit back and watch them war themselves into tech oblivion.

I find conquest/domination to take to long with alot of micro. I guess I don't use the hot keys well enough, but it seems like it takes forever. Especially organizing boats for an invasion of another continent.

For me, Time isn't really a victory you should aim for. I view it as a net to stop the game going on too long, and to stop you faffing around deciding what to go for. Which is why I keep it on - it pushes you to attain another victory.
I've been going for conquest/domination victories lately its good fun :D
I haven't won a diplo yet :/ even when i had vassaled most of the world, everyone else abstains lol.

Wholesale slaughter, followed by some chocolate ice cream and cookies. :D
