It's quite a bit different from Dark Messiah. They are both good though. I bought it (unfortunately missing the 50% off by mere hours) at 25% off before it was released, 25% off isn't much but eh, even the full price of $19.99 is not bad. It's a very unique game.
No. Wasn't SOM on SNES? It looks way better than this hehe. The game in my picture was released by a company better known for releasing fighting games. It's also a lost gem, receiving incredibly high ratings on most review websites, but remembered only vaguely by the gaming community I think. Maybe because it was released towards the end of the life of its console.
I played this enough way-back-when that I can still remember some of the music from it. "Lost gem" describes it well, possibly my favorite game on the NES.
Since I know I have Crystalis right, here's some clues to another "lost gem" RPG.
I don't think it is widely known.
All online reviews I could find of the game were favorable/high.
It was published (at least in Japan) by a well-known company, but not well-known for RPGs.
It was released toward the end of its console's life cycle.
Attached are some midis (three in View attachment quizmidis.zip) of some of the music from the game. They are not the original sound versions, but are faithful enough that I recognized them.
