And Ranged Elephants is a bit too specific a unit.

To be fair, when riding on an elephant, the only effective attack one can do is the ranged attack, simply because elephant is a very big and very high platform. Imagine finding a lance/spear which is longer than an half of an elephant in order to do a melee attack on its back.

Elephant jousting is the sport we never knew we needed. :mischief:

The elephant in the game is similar to this picture:

Highlighted the bits that are similar below. But you can't really see what's on top of the elephant in the update video, so it's impossible to tell whether it's a melee or ranged unit (or both, like the Immortal).

Hmm, but how would you train an elephant to fire a crossbow?

Besides, imagine the size and power of an elephant-size crossbow.
Well it looks like others beat me to it but yeah the Khmer. :p

Hmm, doesn't the Khmers Domrey make a "ranged Elephant UU" rather unlikely? I'm aware that the Domrey is technically a siege unit, but two geographically close civs with (seen from the outer appearence) so similar UUs?
Being a ranged unit would make it more defensive and it would look a little different as a large ballista is different from people on the top.
Though I think it's more likely that there might be 2 UUs now. It looks like they might have both a Crossbowmen replacement and another elephant unit, which is probably the LUU.

Maybe the elephant is a unique great general?
That would mean they stole part of my Vietnam design which I'm not complaining. :)

Is that dude on the right holding a leek in each hand?

Don't let them fool you; that's actually MacGyver wielding leeks ;)

Mr. Johnson's posting of jousting elephants is the closest thing we have to an official announcement for now. It must mean something, right? Time to rev up the speculation machine! (Seriously, more info about the next update can't come soon enough)

I was responding to the skepticism on elephant jousting, showing that it's a thing, not referencing anything in the future. This is a re-creation of a duel between a Burmese king and a Siamese one, nothing to do with Vietnam. You will find out everything re: Vietnam soon enough!

Here's now what I'm hoping for:
Maybe the Elephant LUU might have the passive abilities of the Great General built in and still be able to attack normally like another Heavy Cavalry Unit.

Then the Civ UU is a crossbowmen replacement that can fire at least twice per turn.

If the leader isn't female i'm gonna cut people. And by cut people i mean throw a fit online.

The leader has already been confirmed to be female, almost certainly Lady Trieu.

Yep. Been confirmed since this afternoon. But, @GenyaArikado, why would you throw a fit over a Leader's gender? That, no offense, seems immature and childish.

I have a feeling you might not need to worry about Vietnam or the civ in March being female.
