Vingrjoe's Revised Ships Thread

I put out a new version of the Modernized Iowa Battleship. This should be the last version I do. I feel I have reached the pinnacle of this unit's improvements. Check out post number two of this thread. The WWII Iowa will get a similar last treatment in time.

Now, I really have to get the Moskva done.

 WOW V, That looks friggin awesome! I love the missile trails, and the explosions in the death, and the firing of the main guns, and the coloring and........

I was going to leave battleships out of the Omega Project but I don't think I can hold back with this baby. Great job! :goodjob:

Final version 1.6 of the WWII Iowa class battleship is done. Check it out in post number three of this thread. As with the Modern Iowa battleship, no major changes, just standardizing all of the animations of the three eras of this ship and fixing small things. Which I figure I'm only one of a few who will notice. Anyway, it's done and I feel relieved.

So Ving'rJoe, can you give any hints to as what is next up for you?
Or are you going to take some time off to relax?

I have a couple units in mind I would love to see, but am curious what your plans are.

I have a Hormone promised to go along with the Moskva. I was thinking of making a Knox FF after that. Wyrmshadow sent me a model he found, but I think I'm going to build it from scratch, because I don't like the quality of the model he found. However, I want to say that I am grateful he sent it to me anyway.

There's still a list of ships from TCW that I want to fill in. I also have a couple different sets of blueprints for the Albany class converted missile cruiser. That would fit in well in the first decade of TCW scenario.

Nice to hear about the Hormone. I have used the graphics of the Hind-24 for now. Really nice graphics, but totally wrong in the look.
That Hormone with the twin counter-rotating rotors is one funky-looking, but very efficient helo.

I have been wondering, are there many naval units left to be done that currently exist in the TCW world. I am thinking that most of the WP and U.S. units have been covered. Not so sure about the other civ's.

I think the only way I could get an answer to that is if I went and scrolled through all the naval units in TCW, and found which ones still have placeholder gfx. I fear it is still a good sized list, if you think about all the other countries. Navies outside of the US and USSR are another matter as well, regarding making units for them. Not a heck of alot of material on the web to use as references.

Sweet D... er... Naval Vessels that are the BEST of both worlds (the world you blow stuff up in, and the one you 'virtually' blow stuff up in)

Well, if any German ship references are needed you know whom to ring up for :) ... but you know that anyways ;)

Hey Vingrjoe... any thoughts of making some Bundesmarine vessels? Frigates, Type 212 U-Boats, etc?

VingrJoe,

I really like your ships, and am going to be using your Tico as the Aegis cruiser in the FF mod and the WWII Iowa as the FF mod Battleship. Interestingly, in the first episode of Final Fantasy Unlimited (Anime series based, in general principles, on the games), I remember seeing a few Ticos (or what looked like them anyways, they even had the SPY-1 radar panels in the right spots) in the battle fleet sent to attack the summoned creature, so this is sort of my way of giving a nod to that series in my mod as well as getting rid of some of the Firaxis ships.

WINTER, if I ever get to the WG Navy, I'll call on you. Thanks for your offer of assistance.

Topgun, what in the world is Bundesmarine ? Forgive my ignorance, I haven't read much of anything besides the US and Soviet navies.

Hikaro, it's good to see my units getting used for scenarios I never imagined. I'm pleased that you and others enjoy my work.

well, as an Ex-Navy (not counting the 5 months of IRR duty I have left) guy, I appreciate your attention to detail and accuracy in your units. I especially like your Sprue-can, although I'd preferr a more up to date one for the planned update to my tweaked out mod, since such a ship was the first one I served on (USS O'Brien)..... which brings back many memories (both good and bad).

vingrjoe,

the bundesmarine is the German Navy (formely the W German Navy iirc).

as for the TCW naval placeholders - the gaps are filling in some for the US-Soviet stuff. there's a few subs though that are missing. no biggie. and believe it or not, but there's some W German stuff too i think. of course, i'm just rambling off the top of my head...

I have a reasonable size picture of a model of the MN AA cruiser Colbert (albeit in it's second life) as well as plans and schematics in the process of scanning. Plus a bunch of Springstyles and the many wonders one can find in 1960s Janes.
Was there a list about of your future planned projects? I recall seeing it an one stage.

Look here.
During the cold war, the German Navy was referred to as Bundesmarine ("Federal Navy"), after reunification in 1990, it is called Deutsche Marine ("German Navy").
