Vingrjoe's Revised Ships Thread

Thanks for clearing that up guys.

Hikaro, the model Wyrmshadow sent me of the Spruance was an updated one with CIWS and VLS. However, I wanted to make it resemble the early Spru' cans. If it is ever decided to have a Spruance upgrade to the newer version in TCW, I may go ahead and possibly do one. However, the animations wouldn't be too much different, with the exception of a VLS missile launch animation.

Simon, I did post a list somewhere, whether an earlier post in this thread or another. Here's a rough list of what I'd like to yet make for TCW scenario.

Knox FF
OHP FFG
Albany CG conversion
Forrest Sherman DD
Gearing DD -maybe
Kara CG
Ulyanovsk Carrier

These are just some off the top of my head. Of course these are the US and Russian ships only. Turnover time is a bummer, because I make my units at a slower rate than others due to wife, kids, job, etc. I'd love to be able to crank out my units faster, but not much I can do about it.

An excellent list, mate! Take your time and enjoy yourself. I'm willing to wait until 2010 for an Arleigh Burke and a Sovremmeny.:king: :goodjob:

You made a North Carolina and a South Dakota, didn't you?

The South Dakato redo is actually a WIP on hold. I rebuilt the hull and alot of other parts. I have blueprints to go by from The Floating Drydock. Modelling on it is still incomplete. I haven't even touched the North Carolina yet for a remake.

Well, I think I've gone completely mad in my quest for excellence.

Once again, I have did work to my Iowa class battleship. I haven't rearranged the deck chairs again so to speak, but one could say I cleaned them up. I literally took days to go over each animation and clean up as many stray pixels as possible. You know, those pixels that appear for only a few frames, but because of that, they make a blinking effect.

So, the Modern Iowa Battleship is completely done...hopefully for good. I left the version number at 1.7 because there were no changes in the animations themselves. You will notice on the animation files, that the dates will be recent. The link to the new file is in post number two of this thread.

I will follow up with my Korean War Iowa, WWII Iowa and eventually all my other ships. I will post the new files for the Korean War era Iowa in it's own repective thread. All the other ships that I clean up I will continue to post in this thread, and post update notices.

I will still release new ships from time to time, but definately not at the speed of most unit creators here.

I jumped the gun on uploading my new file and posting the update notice. I forgot to go over the Modern Iowa and look for "holes" in the ship. In other words, I'm eliminating transparent shadow colors that shouldn't be anywhere on the ship itself.

I removed the download link for now. It will be back up when I'm done with this last stage.

Okay, the new file for the Modern Iowa BB is up. As stated before, the file link is on post two of this thread.
Every stray pixel and "hole" I could find is gone. This is probably going to be the new standard for my units. Unfortunately, that means each unit will take all that longer to make.

Are you employed as a graphics artist btw?

Varwnos, no I am not. I did bodywork on cars for eleven years, and for the past three and a half years I have been a stay at home dad. I get out of the house a couple days a week to work at an auto parts store.

Excellent developments. A dedication to perfection and done so well. As I have said before, I am willing to wait years for the best.

You are quite frankly insane. That is actually a great complimemt from me. I think most of the great artists in history were a little insane regarding their work.

I look forward to updating my naval graphics for the new TCW PBEM.

The WWII Iowa BB has been updated. I left the release number at 1.6 since there are no changes to the animations. Just like the Modern Iowa BB and the Korean War BB, I cleaned up the pixels in the animations.

The link to the updated files is in post number three of this thread.

What about your North Carolina? I never did one because I lacked the model.

What about your North Carolina?

Um, it's on the "to do" list. My new South Dakota will probably come out before the North Carolina. I think I'll go back to the S.D. to finish it up, and to take a break from my "clean up" procedures.

Well, it's been 20 months since I first started rebuilding the South Dakota BB model... how's that for procrastination ? I have finally finished version 1.1 of the South Dakota class Battleship. I totally rebuilt the model and made new animations.

South Dakota Class BB

Version 1.1 (11-04-07)

On a related note: After going through and cleaning, and inspecting the animations for this unit, some fine details were brought to my attention regarding my other units. It's amazing how many things a guy can pick out when you stare at an animation long enough. So check out my Modern Iowa BB, Korean War Iowa BB, and WWII Iowa BB for updated files. No really noticable changes, but I cleaned up the animations further. The file version numbers are the same.

My Des Moines cruiser is next on the "to do" list for animation clean up. It's a long process, so it will take a while to go through all my "updated" ships on this thread. Plus, time permitting, I still want to possibly make more new ships.
