Apparently, someone had the idea to choose 7 new wonders of the world, with most of the original seven wonders being lost to the world today.

Be it a stupid and blasfemous idea or not, the guys seem serious, and apparently, several millions have voted, so this isn't just your average online petition. Aside from the voting itself, I thought it might spark a good debate that doesn't have to be narrowed to the 21 nominated selections:
The 21 nominated world wonders said:
- Acropolis
- Hagia Sophia
- The Kremlin/St. Basil's
- Colosseum
- Neuschwanstein Castle
- The Eiffel Tower
- Stonehenge
- The Alhambra
- The Great Wall of China
- Kiyomizy Temple
- The Sydney Opera House
- Angkor Wat
- Taj Mahal
- Timbuktu
- Petra
- The Pyramids of Giza
- The Statue of Christ Redeemer
- Machu Picchu
- Chichen Itzá
- The Statue of Liberty
Since I know far from all of the buildings, I hesitate to venture a bid for those lucky 7... But since millions already have, perhaps I should go for it to tip the scale.

Warning: Music on website intro

Of course, this concept/idea/innitiative/propsal is not so new and groundbreaking as you seem to present... it's been going on for many hundreds of years, going back at least as far as Medieval times. Lots of 'lists' have shown up. Just because we now have an internet, and a certain number of people vote on a particular website, doesn't mean anything is really 'official'. But, yeah - fun discussion... why not. :)

Pesonally, I like the engineering wonders. As for this one, how you can have Timbuktu, and not the Panama Canal, the Chunnel, etc... I'll never know. But, I digress.

Hey? Why isn't the Magna Carta and/or Declaration of Independence on there? They strike me as earth shaking wonders.

While these are all interesting things, I wouldn't deem any of these to be 'wonders', expect maybe Stone Henge since everybody wonders where it came from.

I say they just ought to leave the 7 wonders concept alone, especialkly since designation of new ones is so debatable.

That should be eminently obvious. They aren't structures.

It's nice to see that nothing the United States has done is considered a wonder by this group...

Civ has it right. The Apollo Program is much more of a wonder than most structures.

I don't think that there could be made a selection of the top 7 most amazing structures...

But still, here's my list:
- Acropolis
- Hagia Sophia
- Colosseum
- The Eiffel Tower
- The Alhambra
- The Great Wall of China
- Angkor Wat
- The Statue of Christ Redeemer
- Machu Picchu

I can't decide which 2 of those to eliminate  I already had to eliminate the Taj Mahal and the Neuschwainstein castle.

Some of those wonders aren't exactly new, some were even around at the time of the first list.

I don't see why the Eiffel tower should make the list. It's nice but not really "wondrous".
And it was originally built as a temporary structure, designed to be torn down easily after 20 years. So even when it was new it wasn't revered.

Because it's the most known symbol of the best nation on Earth, a symbol of the smartest, kindest, most industrious, most talented and gifted people on Earth.

Of course, the fact I belong to thsi people just push the average very far above all the other, where it wouldn't be without me.

then I nominate Steph as one of the 7 :crazyeye:

But I've never heard it called "The Seven Structural Wonders Of The World". It's simply "wonders", so any wonderous thing should be allowed.

let's see, which ones from the list:
Stonehenge
the Statue of Liberty
Machu Picchu
the Human Genome Project
Angkor Wat
CERN
Apollo program
what?! seven already!? oh well...

Precedent, elsewise the Code of Hammurabi and the Code of Solon (both, unlike the Great Wall of China, known to the Greeks) would have been in the original seven.
