I don't think color matters much. When sid first created the game, he jsut assigned random colours to each civilizations.

Color means nothing as relates to starting position.
I choose Celtic most of the time, and have had starts from Pole to Pole, and all points in between.

I usually play the Greeks. I think the cities have cool names (classic). They often have two settlers too.
Still, I often edit the names anyway and then try to get some 'info' in the name regarding the cities placement on the map (like 'westpoint' or whatever when a city is on the westcoast)
When playing the Babylonians once I changed Babylon into Babylove (I've got a baby daughter)

Yeah, I usually change city names (especially those I've conquered), into something more relative to my current state of mind. Such as 'Fort Chinatown', 'Killamongol', or 'Death to Carthage'. It's a good channel for my rage, as opposed to trashing my livingroom. Speaking of starting locations, I sincerely pity the Aztecs. In fact, I also pity the Egyptians, and to a lesser degree, the Spaniards. Anyone else see a trend here?
