VQ Series Discussion thread

Sounds very bloody.... My only question would be does that mean we can't even allow one turn of hammers to accumulate to avoid the penalty pop whip point for whipping on the first turn available?

I ask mainly because we'd have to know how many citizens will be required for whipping AND the city would have to be at least that size + 1 (??) in order to be eligible for whipping.

I would think it's ok to allow hammers to accumulate first, we just need to make sure at least 1 citizen dies in the building of it.

Yikes, DM01 was overly complicated! I'm just trying to play the game, not redo history! :crazyeye:
yeah, that game was super complicated, but underneath all the rules, it was one of my favorite SGs! It could've probably been boiled down to: Whip . . . a lot.

The good thing I think it showed was the power of the whip in monty's hand to quickly amass an army of conquest (or domination as the case may be).

Ok, here's the latest VQ11 variant rule summary ... I've added a new twist. Let me know if you think it's too complicated:

  • Once we research Bronze Working, we must revolt to Slavery and stay there the entire game (barring UN meddling)
  • The Sacrificial Altar must be :whipped: (can put hammers into it first, though)
  • We can not :whipped: in any city that does not have a Sacrificial Altar (form before function) (except for the SA itself, of course)
  • After the Sacrifical Altar is in place, no building can be completed without whipping (Wonders, Academies, Shrines, etc. are exempt)
  • All victory conditions are allowed (decided to drop Domination requirement)

*whistle* that's an interesting one... What happens if the whipping from one building is sufficient to overflow and complete another?

pardon my consistent shouts from the peanut gallery, but can you volunatarily whip for wonders, projects, units, etc?

That's fine, it just means you were efficient in your project management skills

Oh, all :whipped: is allowed (after Sacrificial Altar, of course), it's just that it'd be required for buildings post-SA

Hey gang,

I think I'm going to hold off on VQ11. I think I want to play a few games first before I start trying to lead one. So the game is officially On Hiatus, so don't worry about your signup, and if someone wants to use the number 11 they're welcome to.

One More Thing(TM):

I'm officially reserving the following BTS SG Variant; if you want to do a VQ one of it, you have to bribe me for it:

Win Condition: Win Diplomatic Victory using Apostolic Palace.
Variant Rule: Religion can not be Buddhism, Hinduism, or Judaism.

VQ11: Being Napoleon I, or: We Have Met the Enemy and He is Us

Prince
Napoleon (Charismatic & Organized)
Standard Fractal Map, Random Climate/Terrain/Sea Level
Speed: Epic
Barbarians: Raging
AI Personalities: Random
Permanant Alliances: On
Vassal States: Not sure, haven't played with them yet
Victory Conditions: All enabled, Variant Rule prevents Conquest Win
Variant Rule: We can not conquer any of the other Civs

Well that seems pretty normal, what's the big deal?

Oh yeah, I forgot:
Opponents:
Napoleon
Napoleon
Napoleon
Napoleon
Napoleon
Napoleon

This is not so much a game of Civilization as it is an adventure into our own psyche. With raging external forces (i.e. barbarians) and various personalities locked into contest with one another for domination of the mind, can we lead ourself into prominence?

I'm opening the roster up to VQ vets first. After a couple days have passed, I'll post in the main SG game thread.

Roster:
ChrTh
GreyFox
??????
??????
??????
?????? -- Rookie Slot
??????

It's going to be fun when the AI come calling demanding that you stop trading with France! :yeah:

Which is why I didn't make Diplomatic Victory the sole victory option ;)

Are you in?

I am on.

VQ vets? If you visited SGOTM4 recently, you will realize there is not much vets left ...

Added to the roster. They just need a fresh new idea to get them going :whipped:

I'll be up as the official lurker, ChrTh.
That is, if you'll have me. ;)

Not sure if I'm going to start the game now that BTS is getting close. Haven't made up my mind yet.

Ok, so The pending release of BtS... I'm gettin' the band back together!

Here's a couple ideas on a first variant: (we can do one or more of these)

1) We play as a new civ

2) We must build at least one of the new wonders

3) We must found at least one corporation *or* we must take advantage (they must exist somewhere in out empire) all corporations that have been founded

4) We must win the new and improved Space Race

5) We invest heavily into espionage.

Assuming we wait a week or so after BtS comes out... who's in?? What do we want to play?
