VQ Series Discussion thread

/start of Religious Freak Report (RFR) ((TM) since 04/07/07)/

Founding two of the three early religions, spreading them constantly, having two shrines in this city and a market/grocer/bank/wall street is +3:gold: per 1 religion in 1 city! :crazyeye: That usually helps a lot in my games to keep the slider up.

I like the idea of SE economy. This does mean no cottages right? Put me down on the roster although I may (or may not) need to skip here and there this month due to moving.

Namliam as per our pm here's the link to the game I noticed:

SE immortal game

I would definitely go for a philosophical Civ as I am not proficient in the SE approach, could use any help I can get. And put my name there on that one.

On a somewhat related note, Pholkhero is thinking of starting a comparison SG where 2 groups play the same map (one Philo, one Fin) to compare SE vs CE. Perhaps we can combine our effort? See relevant thread here.

If you're playing Warlords, Gandhi is the one to go with philosophical/spiritual with fast workers is sweet for a SE game. Expansive is also good (as you tend to have higher populations and cheap granaries are great). There is no philosophical/expansive in Warlords but (IIRC) Mao is in Vanilla (and Saladin is phi/spi)

Gentlemen, I'm back. :)

But I won't be joining any SG soon. I'll be lurking and commenting and so on, though. ;)

Regards to all the VQers out there, .

Well, I too am guilty of checking only the SGOTM forum... sorry about that :)

I'd be up for the SE game. I could really use some practice in Specialist econ.

Well, this is the last time I let my son use the computer:

Looks like I'm stuck with them  ... what shall I do?

I know!

VQ11*: The Warlords Virgin Sacrifice
Civ: Aztecs (Aggressive & Spirtual)
Opponents: Include Carthage, Celts, Korea, Ottoman, Viking, Zulu (i.e. the Warlords Civs)
Level: Prince, I guess
Length/Map: Let's discuss, I see a lot more Marathon games in the SG community than I've seen in the past
Variant Rules:
  • Once we research Bronze Working, we must revolt to Slavery and stay there the entire game
  • We must win by Domination (although all victory options will be turned on)
  • All Aztec cities at the end of the game must have a Sacrificial Altar (therefore, we might want to get some Vassals as part of the Domination win)

The purpose of this game is simple: get ChrTh back and going and playing Civ again (so we might want to do Normal speed). I'll be last in the Roster (also since it might be a week before I get the games in the mail), but I will run the game.

I'd like to get most of the VQ Vets in this one just because I trust y'all ;) but obviously I'll advertise the game if we can't get a full roster (aiming for 6 players).

Let me know if you're in, and any ideas about the game you might have (map, length, etc.)

*(I'm guessing namliaM still has VQ10 reserved)

Thanks! It was ... we had a special mother's day dinner of grilled hot dogs! :)

Also glad to know that Complete has been released. ;)

I have l33t acquisition sk1llz  ... although to be fair to myself, I didn't know Chronicles was coming out back when I went on hiatus, otherwise I would've admitted the inevitability of my getting it.

I suppose I can squeeze in another VQ SG in between the blazing turns of the SGOTM....

Ok, I got Bobrath and GreyFox on board. What do you guys think of land size, speed, variant rules, etc.

Ozbenno and Conroe, are you in? I may post more pics of Chloe if so :groucho:

For variant, there was a similar concept SG by pholky on the Aztecs and their Sacrificial Altar ... may wanna take a look. We may want to add in something to similar (not as complicated as DM01 though) by, say, we must always sacrifice some populations as "celebration" (yeah, Monty has some crazy idea abt celebration) whenever we got a great persons, wonders or something like that.

I am fine with Normal speed, making it a slightly faster game ... (but frankly, I think Epic should be the "Normal" speed in Civ ... the current Normal is too fast, troops gets obsoleted before they can do anything).

I think a hub map or a wheel map might be a good try.

Yikes, DM01 was overly complicated! I'm just trying to play the game, not redo history! :crazyeye:

I do have a variant change, what do you think of the following:
  • Once we research Bronze Working, we must revolt to Slavery and stay there the entire game
  • We can not :whipped: in any city that does not have a Sacrificial Altar (form before function)
  • We must win by Domination (although all victory options will be turned on)

This way, we won't have to scramble at the end of the game making sure every city has an Altar, but at the same time it'll encourage us to build them since we can't use slavery without 'em.
